Braised Eggplant with Minced Pork

Chapter 188 Reading the Script in the Room (1/5)

Chapter 164 New York and Olsen

The Spurs flew to New York, Tang Tian's first time back in the city since the draft.

While his teammates rested at the hotel, Tang Tian took a cab to Olympic Tower.

It was a standalone building, with the clear letters "NBA" emblazoned above the entrance.

There was also an iron statue of a player carrying a globe, its meaning unclear.

Inside the main entrance, display cases showcased classic old photos and jerseys.

Tang Tian saw one of Carter dunking, another of Garnett roaring, and surprisingly, John Wall's jersey was at the front.

He hadn't looked long when a staff member led him to the league office.

He was greeted by an old acquaintance, Mark Tatum, who had announced his selection at the draft and was Stern's chief assistant.

"Congratulations. Back in New Jersey, I knew you'd succeed," Tatum said politely, making a good first impression.

"Thank you," Tang Tian said, shaking Tatum's hand with a smile.

"Your English is excellent, but I prefer Chinese, though I'm still learning," Tatum added, puzzling Tang Tian.

"Actually, I'm one-quarter Chinese," Tatum said, resolving the mystery.

Tang Tian was surprised. He could tell Tatum had Asian heritage, but he hadn't expected Chinese. That was interesting.

At least more interesting than Adam Silver.

The shared Chinese heritage shortened the distance between them, and their relationship deepened after some conversation.

The Rookie of the Month award came with a trophy, but it wasn't a major award. There were no news outlets or reporters, just an official league photographer.

They took a photo together with the trophy under the "NBA" logo, and the process was complete.

The trophy was made of glass, a round glass plate attached to an iron base.

If the glass didn't reflect the silhouette of "logo man" Jerry West, it would look worthless.

Still, it was his first NBA trophy, and Tang Tian was in a good mood.

There was an unwritten rule in the NBA called the "Best Curse."

Anyone who won an "of the Month" or "of the Week" award, coach or player, would perform terribly in the next game.

Tang Tian was no exception. That night, his touch was the coldest it had been since joining the Spurs.

He shot 2-for-10 and scored only 5 points, but Popovich still gave him 27 minutes of playing time because he could still provide defense.

Besides the 5 points, Tang Tian also contributed 2 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks, leaving Landry Fields and Iman Shumpert questioning their lives.

The Spurs successfully defeated their opponents 92-85.

The Knicks struggled, with Anthony shooting 7-for-21 for only 16 points.

But point guard Jeremy Lin played well, coming off the bench for 20 minutes to contribute a team-high 17 points and 4 assists.

After the game, Lin took the initiative to chat with Tang Tian and asked for his phone number.

Lin was Chinese-American, but he grew up in the United States, and his personality leaned more towards American.

After the game, Tang Tian showered and prepared to return to the hotel, but he received a call from Olsen, who said she was busy and needed his help.

The game ended early, and he had no extra practice scheduled for tonight. Plus, Olsen tempted him with cake over the phone, so he took a cab straight to the manor.

When he followed Olsen into the manor and then into her room, he knew why Olsen had asked him to come to her room late at night.

To go over the script!

Oh, no, to read the script.

*The Martian* was a novel with a relatively simple storyline, and Ridley Scott's script wasn't complicated.

But for Olsen, this was her first time acting in such a big production, so she studied the details in depth.

Tang Tian had recommended the movie to Scott, and he had provided the general framework for the script, so Olsen had called him over.

Seeing the constantly furrowed brow on Olsen's face, Tang Tian knew that she had really called him over just for the script.

"You watch this first; I'll get you the cake."

Tang Tian nodded with a wry smile. He had really been caught by Olsen's "weakness."

Tang Tian made notes on some of the details of the script. After doing these things, he suddenly thought that being a part-time screenwriter wasn't bad.

But after he finished revising, he realized that Olsen hadn't returned yet.

He stood up, and his eyes unintentionally swept to the table by the bed, where painkillers were placed. It seemed that Olsen had invested a lot of energy in this movie.

Could she have fainted?

He walked out along the light and searched around, eventually finding her in the bathroom, wearing a tank top, looking at the washing machine with a worried expression.

"I'm sorry, I was going to make a cup of coffee, but I spilled it on my shirt, and I can't wash it off," Olsen said, rubbing her forehead.

"Have you not been sleeping well these past few days?" Tang Tian asked.

Olsen nodded, then reached out and tapped her forehead, looking a little headachey.

That was normal. She valued this movie, so she naturally invested a lot of energy, but she couldn't do it well. Spilling coffee was no surprise.

Tang Tian suddenly wanted to make her happy, looking at the white shirt in the washing machine and saying, "I have a way."

"Really?" Olsen asked expectantly.

Tang Tian nodded, then turned and left the bathroom.

He returned a moment later, holding the painkillers he had seen in the room earlier.

"Take a painkiller, and your head won't hurt," Tang Tian said with a smile.

"..."

Olsen couldn't help but roll her eyes at Tang Tian, then couldn't help but laugh.

Although Tang Tian was teasing her, her head didn't hurt as much after she laughed.

Seeing Olsen smile, Tang Tian said hello and left the bathroom again.

When he returned, he was holding salt and dish soap from the kitchen. This time, he was serious.

He poured some of both into the washing machine and then turned it on.

"Let's go out," Tang Tian called to Olsen in the living room.

They ate cake and talked about the script, and soon they got things done.

The worry on Olsen's face had mostly dissipated.

The washing machine in the bathroom stopped, and Tang Tian went to take out the clothes.

When Olsen saw the spotless white shirt, not only did the worry on her face completely disappear, but there was also a hint of strangeness in her eyes.

A man's charm is not only limited to his appearance and conversation but also, and more importantly, his ability to solve problems.

Tang Tian had helped her with the script and could also get rid of coffee stains on a white shirt. At this time, he was "bling-bling" shining in front of her.
