Chapter 199 Strange Visitor

Chapter 199: Chapter 199 Strange Visitor

"I won’t give any additional gifts." Mrs. Gu said with a smile, "Ting, make sure to put some thought into giving Tangtang a good birthday present."

"I know." Gu Shiting replied.

Sheng Tang smiled.

She privately said to Gu Shiting, "Don’t give me anything too expensive."

"Not expensive, just a little something," Gu Shiting said, "Don’t worry."

Sheng Tang was still a bit uneasy.

She played all day and had dinner at the Gu Family’s house before heading home.

She planned to tell her parents about it honestly.

Unexpectedly, when she arrived at the entrance of her apartment complex, she saw her mother and younger brother at the building entrance, braving the cold wind as if waiting for her.

"Mom." Sheng Tang dashed into her mother’s arms.

She was carrying several bags in her hands, which were clothes and shoes given by Mrs. Gu.

Her mother caught her.

Her smile was a bit unnatural, "Tangtang, your brother wants to eat barbecue and insists on waiting for you. Let’s go, the three of us can grab a bite."

Sheng Tang felt a pang in her heart.

Is something wrong at home?

Mom and brother were obviously trying to get her out of the house.

"Where are Dad and Grandma?"

"Grandma went to sleep, she’s feeling a bit unwell today and took some cold medicine; your dad hasn’t come home yet, the hospital had a meeting today, and afterward, his colleagues went out for dinner," Mom said.

These words seemed normal.

Sheng Tang then said, "Ting’s mom gave me some clothes, I’ll bring them home first, so they don’t get covered in barbecue smell."

It would be easy to take the elevator home.

Mom said, "Don’t bother, let Zong take them."

Her brother took Sheng Tang’s bags without looking at her, seeming guilty, and ran into the hallway.

Sheng Tang was completely puzzled.

She couldn’t help but look at her mother’s expression, "Mom, is everything okay at home?"

"What could be wrong?" Mom laughed, "You child, why are you always so suspicious? You and your brother used to love barbecue, always wanting to go."

Sheng Tang saw that she wasn’t willing to talk, there must be something she didn’t want to say.

She didn’t continue to ask.

Her brother soon came downstairs.

The three of them went to a small shop at the entrance to eat barbecue. Sheng Tang didn’t eat much, she was still dieting.

Mom looked at her hand and became anxious, "What happened to you?"

Sheng Tang pulled open the bandage to show her, "Just a minor scrape, my senior brother was making a big deal out of it."

She explained to her mother and brother everything that had happened today.

Her brother was furious, "She deliberately ran into you?"

"Probably on purpose, otherwise the car wouldn’t have veered onto the sidewalk," Sheng Tang said, "Luckily, I just fell."

"What’s that girl’s name?" Mom asked.

"Yang Mingming, a senior, a popular figure at school, I’m not very familiar with her," Sheng Tang said.

Just because her popularity overshadowed others, she had to suffer such unwarranted misfortune.

"Glad you’re okay." Mom said, "It’s better to be kind to others."

In this society, even if you’re harmless to others, people might still harm you, unless you live forever in obscurity, not blocking anyone’s path, always falling behind.

Simply being kind couldn’t ensure safety.

Sheng Tang didn’t say this. Her mother had lived a simple life, dealing with books and students in the library, peacefully and never faced any major upheavals.

"I understand, Mom." Sheng Tang said obediently.

Her brother was indignant, feeling it was unfair for his sister.

"Gu Shiting stood up for me, he hit Yang Mingming," Sheng Tang laughed.

She described Yang Mingming’s miserable state to her brother.

Her brother then felt a bit better.

After eating for more than an hour, Mom took the siblings for a walk in the complex.

It was very cold outside, with the wind blowing, the weather was the least suitable for walking.

Clearly, someone must have come to their home, and Mom didn’t want Sheng Tang to see them, so she avoided it.

Sheng Tang pretended not to know, following her mother and brother, braving the chilly wind.

When they returned home, the living room had been tidied up, and Grandma wasn’t asleep; she was still busy in the kitchen.

"Grandma, are you not feeling unwell?" Sheng Tang walked over and hugged Grandma.

There seemed to be remnants of anger on Grandma’s face, her smile was reluctant, "I wasn’t feeling well earlier, slept for a while, and now I feel much better."

Sheng Tang made a sound of acknowledgment.

Once everyone went to bed, Sheng Tang sneaked into her brother’s room.

She woke her brother.

"Who came today?"

Her brother was stunned, "No one..."

"You’re hiding it from me too?" Sheng Tang pretended to be hurt, "I thought we were the closest."

Her brother, "..."
