Gu Shiting studied science, and might not have much of a literary side, but he could always understand Sheng Tang’s poems.
This poem was about an unwavering commitment.
Having made a promise, I will wait for you forever, no matter what kind of suffering and hardships I endure.
You go abroad to study, I will wait for you here. In other words, I won’t go with you.
Gu Shiting didn’t feel disappointed.

This was Tangtang’s promise to him.
