The items were bought by Di Mingjue, and Xingxing found them incredibly precious. He circled around again, his back to Di Mingjue.
Di Mingjue glanced back and sneered inwardly.
Such an arrogant little thing. He'd see how he'd "manage" him.
Di Mingjue gently placed Ye Ziyu back on the hospital bed and deliberately exposed half his face to observe Xingxing's condition.
"Would you like a snack first? Or some fruit?" Di Mingjue asked.
"I don't really feel like eating right now." Ye Ziyu's heart was entirely focused on Xingxing, who lay motionless on the bed.
Di Mingjue took a fork from the packaging and deliberately fed it to Ye Ziyu, "I bought this specifically for you. Try it and see if it tastes good."
The creamy flavor instantly spread across her tongue. Ye Ziyu called out to Xingxing on the next bed, "Xingxing, are you hungry?"
He hadn't eaten breakfast and was on an IV drip; he must feel very uncomfortable right now.
Ye Ziyu blocked Di Mingjue's arm as he reached out again and said to him, "Go downstairs and buy some congee."
"For you?" Di Mingjue inquired.
"For Xingxing," Ye Ziyu replied.
The little one beside them hadn't said a word, yet she was extremely worried.
Di Mingjue turned to look at the proud Xingxing. Under Ye Ziyu's urging, he resigned himself to being a qualified errand runner. He quickly tidied up the items in front of him and left the ward.
They were alone in the ward again. Because of their previous conversation, Xingxing was in a very low mood. He didn't even want to talk to Ye Ziyu.
"Xingxing?" Ye Ziyu called out. "Are you not feeling well?"
After her voice faded, the ward fell silent again. You could hear a pin drop.
Had he fainted again?
Ye Ziyu threw off the covers and hurried to check on Xingxing.
"I'm fine." Facing Ye Ziyu's worried expression, Xingxing actually felt a bit embarrassed.
He was simply trying to reduce his reliance on Ye Ziyu by appearing cold. After all, she couldn't leave Di Mingjue, and he couldn't forget the enmity between himself and Di Mingjue.
Seeing that he was alright, Ye Ziyu heaved a heavy sigh of relief as she leaned on the edge of the bed, muttering, "It's good that you're fine, it's good that you're fine!"
A few seconds later, she composed herself, reached out to stroke Xingxing's face, and showed a relieved smile.
The kinder Ye Ziyu was to him, the deeper Xingxing's guilt became. They shouldn't have contact, much less should he treat her as a mother.
Xingxing shuffled backward, creating more distance between himself and Ye Ziyu. "I want to go home."
While her heart was still hurting from his distancing gesture, his words delivered another blow.
"Go home now? But you haven't fully recovered. Why not stay a little longer for observation?" Ye Ziyu persuaded.
She had her own selfish motives. In the hospital, she could spend more time with Xingxing, perhaps through their interactions, his personality would become more cheerful.
Xingxing insisted, "I'm already fine. I don't want to stay in the hospital."
As soon as he finished speaking, Di Mingjue returned with the congee. Seeing the worry on Ye Ziyu's face, he realized Xingxing had upset her. He hurried to the bedside, dropping the plastic bag heavily on the table. "You want to be discharged?"
His tone of inquiry was heavy, and Xingxing was momentarily intimidated by Di Mingjue.
Ye Ziyu tugged at his arm, quickly trying to smooth things over. "He said he doesn't like the hospital and wants to go home. I thought, since there's nothing seriously wrong, we could handle the discharge procedures. Qianqian and the others are waiting for us at home."
Di Mingjue didn't care at all whether Xingxing cared about his own health, but Ye Ziyu did. Her own body hadn't fully recovered, and last night she had rushed back home to be discharged early because she was afraid the children would worry. Now that she was back in the hospital, she had to continue the treatment, no matter what.
