The man, seeing Shen Lin's attitude, became even more arrogant. "Still not convinced? Don't force me to take action. Hurry up and take this cripple away!"
The construction site behind him was in a state of suspension. His words echoed in the empty environment.
Men with stubble and dirt-covered faces emerged from behind various piles of drills.
"Do you know who we are?" Shen Lin retorted angrily.
Hearing this, the man sized them up casually. He toyed with the club in his hand, patting it against his palm, and snorted, "A fool and a cripple!"
Listening to the man's continuous vulgarities, Shen Lin coldly reprimanded, "This is..."
Di Mingjue stopped Shen Lin, interrupting his unfinished words.
"What is it? Why aren't you finishing? Are you ashamed to say?" the man pressed.
Faced with such an arrogant person, Shen Lin desperately wanted to retort. However, he was held back, presumably with a different plan in mind.
Di Mingjue emerged from behind Shen Lin and instructed him to take out his wallet.
Following his orders, Shen Lin looked at his actions with confusion.
"We accidentally came in, saw that construction was underway, heard it was a Di Jue Group project, and wanted to see it for ourselves," Di Mingjue explained while tucking money from his wallet into the man's hand.
Money is what people love most in this world. The man's aggressive demeanor changed, and he said with a smile, "You should have said so earlier. I thought you were here to cause trouble."
"Trouble? Why do you say that?" Di Mingjue feigned curiosity, as if he had just happened to appear here.
With his expression and demeanor, the man believed Di Mingjue's intentions and naturally became someone he could confide in.
Shen Lin, realizing the shift in the situation, immediately stepped out of the man's line of sight and secretly turned on his phone's recording.
"Alas, it's all a sad story. I and those workers behind me have been here for a week. The people above just told us to guard this place. We don't know what happened, but the construction suddenly stopped," the man sighed. Everything he did was forced, and he felt helpless.
"Have the people from above not come?" Di Mingjue asked again.
The man dropped his club and, without minding the dirt on the ground, sat on a rock. "They have. Manager Wu has been here many times. However, the president of Di Jue Group hasn't visited much. I reckon he doesn't know what's going on with this construction site."
Shen Lin looked at Di Mingjue.
When he had visited last week, everything here was normal. In just under a week, such a significant change had occurred. Furthermore, if Di Dongsheng hadn't been to the construction site, how could a batch of funds have been allocated from the company for project needs?
Where did that money go!
Di Mingjue gave the remaining money in his hand to the man and asked sternly, "Are all these words true?"
The man, blinded by the money, gestured haphazardly at the desolate construction site. "Just look for yourself, and you'll know. The tools have been left there, idle, almost to the point of rusting."
After leaving the construction site, Di Mingjue immediately arranged for Shen Lin to investigate. He wanted to see what Di Dongsheng was up to behind all this and where the money had gone.
...
Coffee shop.
Wu Jie sat in a private room, drinking cup after cup of coffee, while the person he was supposed to meet was nowhere to be seen.
"Sir, it's inside."
Faint voices drifted in from outside the private room.
Wu Jie put down his coffee cup and stood up from the sofa.
The sliding door was pushed open, revealing Mu Liangchen in a trench coat, taking off his sunglasses.
"Mr. Mu, come, sit here!" Wu Jie greeted him with open arms.
The coffee had been ordered in advance. As soon as the person arrived, the waiter brought the coffee over.
"Let's get straight to the point. What's the situation with Jiang's?" Mu Liangchen leaned his hand on the table, casually pushing the coffee aside.
