Chapter 350: Chapter 349: Don’t Tease My Girlfriend
Sophie cupped her hand dramatically around her mouth, whispering just loud enough for everyone at their table to hear. "Careful, Hannah. If Rex is writing songs for Daisy, next thing we know he’ll be standing outside her window with a guitar."
That earned a quiet laugh from a few nearby students. Daisy shot Sophie a death glare, but her crimson ears betrayed her.
Even Elara, who usually kept to herself, peeked over timidly, eyes wide with curiosity. "He... he really wrote a song? For you?" she asked, almost whispering.
Daisy groaned, covering her face with both hands. "It’s not like that! It’s just, he started singing in the car, and then he stopped halfway through—"
Sophie gasped theatrically. "He left her hanging! Classic cliffhanger tactic. Hook her heart, reel her in."
Hannah tilted her head, lips curving into the faintest of smirks. "So he teased you with half a song and you’re still thinking about it?"
Daisy’s glare could have burned a hole through the desk. "I am not!"
Across from them, Rex leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, watching the chaos unfold with that same infuriatingly calm smirk. He didn’t say a word to stop them—why would he, when Daisy was digging herself deeper every time she tried to defend herself?
And then, as if to make matters worse, Sophie leaned across the table, lowering her voice in a mock-conspiratorial whisper. "So... when’s the wedding?"
Daisy’s groan was loud enough to echo off the walls.
Daisy was already dying under the trio’s relentless teasing. Sophie had leaned in so close she was practically whispering wedding bells in her ear, Hannah was tossing out deadpan comments about "venue options," and Elara, of all people, was giggling behind her notebook like she’d just discovered a new favorite drama.
That was when Rex decided to deliver the killing blow.
"So, Daisy," he said smoothly, steepling his fingers as though he were about to deliver a business proposal, "do I need to start writing my vows now, or are we still in the rehearsal phase?"
The girls exploded. Sophie slapped the desk, wheezing with laughter. Hannah’s lips twitched, betraying the smirk she’d been holding back. Even Elara let out an uncharacteristically loud snort before quickly covering her face, mortified.
Daisy, meanwhile, looked like she might combust. "Rex!" she half-yelled, half-whined, grabbing her pen and pointing it at him like a weapon. "Don’t you dare join in on this nonsense!"
But he wasn’t done yet. Oh no. He leaned a little closer, lowering his voice just enough for the girls around them to hear, his grin maddeningly smug.
"Relax, sweetheart," he murmured, his tone dripping with mock affection. "I’ll handle the vows. You just focus on picking out your dress. Something white, flowing, though honestly, I think you’d look better in off-shoulder lace."
"STOP IT!" Daisy shrieked, her voice cracking at the end. She smacked his arm with the pen, her cheeks flaming so red she looked like she might spontaneously combust.
Rex patted her back comfortingly, still deep in character. "Don’t be shy, love. You’ll thank me later when we’re dancing under the stars at our reception."
Sophie nearly fell out of her chair, clutching her stomach. "Oh my God, Rex, you’re killing me. This is gold! Daisy in a wedding dress? I can see it.
He leaned forward suddenly, resting an elbow on Daisy’s desk and lowering his voice into a smooth, mock-serious tone. "Alright, that’s enough," he said firmly, like a protective boyfriend stepping in. "You’re all making her blush too much. Don’t tease my girlfriend like that."
The room erupted.
Sophie actually screamed, grabbing Hannah’s arm as if she needed someone to hold her upright. "Oh my GOD, he admitted it! He admitted it!"
Hannah’s brows shot up, her composure cracking just enough to let a chuckle slip. "Well... I guess that clears things up."
Even Elara, usually a picture of restraint, covered her mouth but couldn’t stop the muffled laugh escaping her. Her shoulders shook as she tried... and failed... to look back down at her notes.
Meanwhile Daisy... poor, flustered Daisy, went rigid, her entire face lighting up crimson. She gawked at Rex like he had just declared marriage on live television. "Wha—?! You—you—you absolute—!" She couldn’t even form words, only squeaks of outrage.
Rex didn’t give her a chance to recover. He folded his arms across his chest, gave a world-weary sigh, and looked at the girls with the solemn dignity of a long-suffering boyfriend.
"You see what I have to deal with?" he said gravely, tilting his head toward Daisy. "She acts all tough in front of you, but the moment I so much as forget to text ’goodnight,’ she threatens to break up with me. High-maintenance doesn’t even begin to cover it."
The trio exploded. Sophie was doubled over, pounding her desk like she needed CPR. Hannah, who rarely cracked, had her hand pressed to her mouth, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably. Even Elara, usually the quiet one, peeked up from her notebook, her lips twitching against her will.
Daisy nearly leapt out of her chair. "You liar! Don’t make stuff up like that!" she sputtered, swatting his arm furiously. Her blush only deepened when Rex gave her a long, suffering look, the kind of look boyfriends in movies gave when they were "used to" their girlfriend’s antics.
"And yesterday," Rex added smoothly, ignoring her flailing, "she told me if I didn’t save her the last slice of pizza, I clearly didn’t understand commitment. Can you imagine the pressure I’m under?"
"STOP TALKING!" Daisy all but shrieked, covering his mouth with both hands in a panic. Her voice was strangled, frantic. "None of that ever happened!"
Rex gently peeled her hands away, looking her dead in the eyes with mock tenderness. "See? She’s shy. Doesn’t want anyone to know how soft she gets when we’re alone."
"Rex!" Daisy was about two seconds from spontaneous combustion.
Around them, the girls were howling, and even a couple of nearby classmates had started sneaking glances over, curious about the commotion. Sophie fanned herself dramatically. "Oh my God, this is better than reality TV. Daisy, I knew you were hiding a boyfriend vibe, but THIS? This is premium."
Daisy buried her face in her arms on the desk, her ears glowing red. She muttered something that sounded like "I hate you" into her sleeves.
Rex just patted her shoulder gently, still keeping up the act. "Don’t be mad, babe. I’ll make it up to you later. Dinner’s on me tonight."
That single sentence made Sophie nearly fall out of her chair. Hannah pinched the bridge of her nose, muttering, "Unbelievable." Elara ducked her head, her shoulders trembling as she tried... and failed, not to laugh out loud.
And Daisy? Daisy was one inch away from grabbing his collar and strangling him in front of the whole class.
