Chapter 101

Chapter 101: 101

All eyes turned to the person that talked, and a few murmurs echoed among them.

They moved back as he walked closer, the presence of another Alpha King was a big threat to them at the current situation

where their Alpha had gone missing.

The only person that didn’t feel threatened was Boston because he was aware of the discussion between him and their Alpha.

Even Mariah looked at him with doubtful eyes and raised her head higher as she didn’t want to appear scared to him.

Alpha Raul smiled at her and silently stopped to stand beside her and faced the people.

"Your Alpha is away for now, isn’t it your duty to hold the pack in place till he returns?" His question was directed at the Elders and they shifted uncomfortably under his cold smile.

Mariah looked at him with disbelief and some relief, she had always viewed his arguments with her brother as being childish because she did not understand why their friendship had suddenly gone sour and they drifted apart.

On the contrary, despite their past relationship it has been engraved in her mind to be wary of potential threats to pack and on the top of the list is the other Alpha Kings.

"If he is to return now and meet this?

What would your justifications be?" He asked again but to the rest of the people.

"Who gives an outsider the right to talk about our pack in that manner?

This is our pack and it’s our problem". One of the elders spoke up in disdain.

The whole crowd had gone silent and they all paid rapt attention to the unexpected disruption by Alpha Raul.

"Yes, yes, I totally understand why you think that way and it is totally acceptable.

But would you like me to attack and steal your pack instead?"

He paused and dragged his eyes over all their faces. Some looked at each other as they had not expected him to say those words out right in their faces.

"I mean that’s what a reasonable person would do, but I guess I’m not reasonable." He concluded with a chuckle.

"Your Alpha will return soon, when he does then you can try this again.

I want you all to leave now". He ordered

The words left them unsatisfied but they cannot deny all he said was the truth.

Despite the conflicted feeling in their minds, they all turned around and slowly dispersed.

With the pack elders in the lead.

"Will he truly return soon?

How do you know this?" Mariah asked in a small voice beside him.

Alpha Raul turned his attention to her and he smiled softly.

"You don’t think I was the one that ordered him to be captured right?"

"I honestly don’t know what to think, but you won’t blame me right?

Because he left quite willingly and that is not possible if he didn’t want to go, no one can force him". Mariah replied.

"Have you always been this witty?

Let’s go inside, there is a lot to discuss". His expression turned serious and he gestured to Boston before tugging her along with him.

Mariah exchanged a glance with Boston and he shook his head, giving her a little assurance.

They entered Alpha Mitch’s study and Alpha Raul locked the door once they were inside.

"Have you seen Gale?" He turned to ask Boston.

He replied by shaking his head.

Mariah sat down on the Alpha’s seat and watched them discuss. It was very obvious that Alpha Raul was restless by the way he was pacing the room and how he impatiently lit a cigarette.

"Mitch is at the Oak tree park, we need to get him out there tonight". He said suddenly and both Mariah and Boston’s eyes went wide in shock.

"That is Adriana’s pack, are you sure he is there?" Mariah asked as she rose out of the seat.

"I won’t be saying it if I’m not sure, I was also told he is in a bad state".

"It’s a long journey there, it would take hours to get there. It might be morning before we are able to cross the pack’s border". Boston reasoned.

Contrary to how Mariah felt, Boston immediately thought of the line of action.

"My men are ready, you need to gather some men here too. One of the reasons that packs haven’t expanded in ages is because of their lack of warriors." Alpha Raul as a cloud of smoke covered his face.

"It would be very easy to get him out, although this would leave strains on the people. It can lead to more war if foreign packs hear about it". He continued with a deep frown.

"So what do we do?

We can’t leave him there". Mariah cried.

"No, we won’t". Alpha Raul confirmed.

He nodded at Boston and he left the room immediately to gather the men but to his surprise only a few volunteered to go with them.

Seeing this, he returned to give reports to Alpha Raul.

"What the hell is wrong with them?" He cussed in annoyance and stormed out.

"Why don’t you want to join us to bring your Alpha back?" He asked them, going straight to the point.

He met a large number of them , and they appeared to be having a discussion among themselves.

No one said a word in response to his question and Alpha Raul cussed under his breath as his patience thinned.

"He is your Alpha and it’s your responsibility to protect, but you don’t want to do that?!" He yelled.

"It’s easy to agree to go but we don’t know if this is a trap or not. What if he is not there?. We still need to protect the pack". One of them replied.

Alpha Raul paused and looked at them in silence.

He has no idea what else to say or do and once again he questioned his sanity for ever agreeing to him.

"When are we leaving?" Another voice asked, suddenly breaking the silence.

He walked closer to Alpha Raul and maintained eye contact.

"While some of us are scared to lose their life, I am ready to lay mine down. I can’t imagine serving another Alpha King. So I would rather die protecting this one, there are a few of us with this belief and we will join you". His words were like a sword and it cut through the pride of those that refused.

"Good". Alpha Raul nodded with a smile.
