Chapter 327: We Are on the Same Side

Chapter 327: We Are on the Same Side

"You and your families have been stuck inside your houses for the past few days to try and avoid the military, so why are you acting like we’ve done something horrible?"

Jason’s genuine question shocked the civilians, and some of them just gaped at Jason like he had grown a second head! Jason just killed fifteen dragons and dragon riders, and he was asking them why they thought he had done something horrible!? Was that a joke!?

Jason frowned as he continued.

"I know you don’t support the Military. You didn’t want them to be here, but you put up with them because you were afraid of what they would do to you. It was the same for my people. The Sovereign sent his army into my world and destroyed much of it while searching for Princess Riyala. We fought back and killed the people who attacked us, and now we’ve come here to take care of the Sovereign. We are on the same side."

The civilians felt shock pass through them again, and they began looking at each other while murmuring between themselves! Their weapons had already begun to slowly come down since their guard was now lowering, but one of them quickly stepped forward when he heard something impossible!

"The princess! You said the princess was in your world!? Does that mean she’s alive!?"

Jason had to hide a smile when he heard that question. This was the exact outcome that Jason had been looking for. The soldiers that Jason had resurrected recently told Jason a lot about this world and the current state of things. Although there were a lot of soldiers who supported the Sovereign, the same was not the case for the civilians. The civilians had already been looking forward to the coronation of Riyala’s father as the new King! They knew that the entire world would progress under him, and they were in full support of his ascension, but things had gone very wrong when the Sovereign suddenly took control of the kingdom! The civilians were not in support of the Sovereign, but they could not do anything about him taking the crown because he had the military! Any civilian who dared to speak up against the Sovereign would be put to death, so the only thing that they could do was to bow their head and follow the Sovereign’s rules! It was the perfect definition of a dictatorship!

So Jason knew that hinting at the fact that Riyala was still alive would light a fire in the hearts of the civilians, and it would make them immediately trust him! Anyone who was willing to fight for the royal family would have the heart of the people. Jason turned to the man who asked the question, and he spoke calmly.

"Yes, your princess is alive. And she is doing her part to fight for you. But I need you all to do your part as well. We aren’t here to hurt you, I swear it. We simply need you to put down your weapons and return to your houses. No one can leave the town until the battle is over."

The dragonborn all seemed slightly skeptical about the entire thing. They knew that putting down their weapons would make them vulnerable, and if Jason was lying, then it would just make it easier for Jason to kill their wives and children! The only way they would follow Jason’s orders was if one person decided to put their trust in Jason and do as he asked! And it didn’t take long before the leader of the town stepped forward and looked Jason straight in the eye before falling to his knees. He threw his spear to the side before pressing his head to the ground and speaking in a broken voice.

"Please. Please save us from that tyrant. We beg you!"

Gina’s eyes widened from behind when she saw what the man did, and Jason was too stunned by the sudden action to react for a few seconds. Jason could only watch as more of the men dropped their weapons to the ground and went down to their knees. Jason looked over the large crowd of a hundred men as they bowed their heads to him, and Jason felt the gravity of the situation settling down on him at that moment. The dragonborn were extremely prideful people. They held their pride above everything else, and without their pride, they were nothing! So the mere fact that they were willing to get down on their knees and beg for salvation like this meant that they had really lost all hope. These were men who had been pushed to the very brink, and right now, these men were putting all their hopes for the future on Jason’s shoulders. Jason recognized the importance of his next words, and he knew he had to choose them carefully.

Jason walked forward and he went down on a knee before putting a hand on the leader’s shoulder. The leader looked up at Jason with resolve shining in his eyes, and Jason gave him a serious nod before speaking calmly.

"I’ll kill that bastard no matter what. You have my word."

[The Royal City of Radagan]

The city of Radagan was a large, bustling hive of activity located more than three hundred miles west of the town of Gradun. The city covered a wide landmass of more than fifty thousand square miles, and it was surrounded on three sides by a vast forest! There were thousands of houses located in the city since it was the most prosperous part of Radagan. The houses were divided into the upper regions, where the royal family stayed along with the Royal army and some of the nobles, and the lower regions, where the masses and civilians could be found! There was a large park for dragonborn children, a large market for the exchange of goods, and even a large school where dragonborns could go to learn magic and dragon taming. And in the middle of this large town stood a castle made from marble and dragonstone.

The castle covered more than a hundred thousand square feet of land at the western end of the town, and it stood far taller than any other house in the town! There were various towers located at various positions in the castle, and these towers had been built in order to make it easier for dragons to land in the castle. There were currently multiple dragonriders patrolling the towers, and their dragons were flying or moving around the castle grounds to either find food or to find a good place to take a nap. The castle had been built in a way so that the morning rays of sunshine would first hit the tallest tower before slowly panning down towards the rest of the town, and anyone standing down on the ground and looking up would be mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the architecture!

Currently, a woman from the Radagan Royal Army was walking across an arc bridge that crossed over a large lake in the castle. She was dressed in a prim and proper black military attire with three badges of honor attached to her left breast and her Dragonsteel sword hanging by her waist. She had sharp features and high cheekbones with a stern-looking face that made her look like the perfect description of an aristocrat. This woman was named Gruwen, and she was a General in the Royal Army.
