Chapter 159: Mysterious Figure 1
Chapter 159: Mysterious Figure 1
.
Zhu Rong and Liang Yuexin had decided to travel together, and as they did, Zhu Rong informed her of their current situation.
Needless to say, when she heard that these strange monsters were the very same creatures that had caused chaos and death in the past, during the great calamity that once struck the continent, she was stunned, to say the least.
At first, she didn’t believe him, but the further they went, the more of these creatures they encountered, and the more she fought them, the more she realized that everything he had said about them was true.
She herself had read the documents regarding that great event of the past, so she knew a thing or two about the types of monsters that attacked back then.
Although the information preserved in the historical texts was very limited, it was more than enough to confirm Zhu Rong’s words.
"Why are these creatures in this place, and more importantly, how are they still alive?
Weren’t they completely eradicated in the past?" she asked in confusion as a series of questions began buzzing in her head.
At this moment, the two of them were flying at high speed above the vast forest.
Zhu Rong, who was right beside her, said with a calm expression,
"They eliminated most of the creatures, but it was never confirmed that they had wiped them all out. It was to be expected that some might remain. I
n fact, after they were eradicated, for the following years the empires always kept their eyes open in case some anomaly appeared.
But nothing ever happened, which only made people think that the calamity had finally passed completely.
Certainly, no one could have imagined that some of those beings were inside a secret realm," he said, while inwardly wondering why the owner of this secret realm had decided to imprison them here instead of eliminating them.
Wouldn’t it have been better to kill them when the chance was there?
It was clear there had to be another reason, and perhaps once they reached the castle on the mountain, they might discover more about who the creator of this place was, and possibly why they had made such an apparently reckless decision.
Their flying speed was high, hers because she was in the fifth stage and her Qi control had reached a good level,
his because he had strength comparable to the fifth stage as well as perfect Qi control.
Neither of them spoke much the whole time.
The discovery of these creatures and the mysteries this place seemed to hide occupied both their minds.
That said, the distant mountain was already growing larger, a sign they were getting closer.
At this point, Zhu Rong had already begun scanning the area with his spiritual sense, and among several beasts of different levels, he could already sense the presence of several people.
They were just a few individuals, not from his group, they were people from other factions
So far, he hadn’t encountered anyone from his group, nor from Liang Yuexin’s family either, so they ignored all of them.
It wasn’t their duty to go save them, especially since all those individuals would have done was slow them down.
They did, however, encounter various disciples of the Masters Pavilion, but even then, he only helped from afar by pulling them out of danger, nothing more. He had no intention of bringing them along.
That said, just as they were getting closer to the foot of the mountain, Zhu Rong began to feel a strange sensation in his chest.
This time the feeling wasn’t one of discomfort or anything like that, it was as if something was trying to communicate with him.
At first, he thought it was some cultivator calling for help and ignored it, but as he drew closer to the mountain, that sensation only grew stronger. At this point, he could no longer brush it aside.
He no longer thought it was a cultivator asking for help, but rather something entirely different, yet still calling out to him.
He was hesitant for a moment, torn over whether to go or not.
In the end, after much consideration, he decided not to head straight for the mountain, but changed direction instead.
This of course did not go unnoticed by Liang Yuexin, who was right there beside him.
"Hey, where are you going? That’s not the right way," she said, accelerating to catch up with him immediately.
"Hm? Don’t worry about me, just go on ahead. I need to check something," Zhu Rong said as he stopped, ready to set off again.
Needless to say, Liang Yuexin didn’t like Zhu Rong’s answer, but there wasn’t much she could do. It was his choice.
In the end, he proceeded on his own path, but as he did, he could feel her presence still following him, and curious, he couldn’t help but turn his head and ask,
"You do know you don’t need to follow me, right? Don’t tell me you’re worried about me," he said in a joking tone.
"I may be in a different team, but you’re still a student of mine. What kind of teacher would I be if I let you run around and get yourself killed?" she said, ignoring the last part of what he had said.
Zhu Rong gave a small laugh but decided not to say anything else and kept going.
Although he had changed direction, the main destination remained the mountain. The only difference was that instead of heading toward the back to climb up to the palace, he flew toward a point nearer the mountain’s base.
There, just a bit in the distance, he could see a cave.
From afar, it was barely visible, especially since it was partially covered by the forest foliage. But now that he was closer, he could see the entrance more clearly.
’It should be here,’ he thought as that strange sensation grew stronger and stronger.
