Chapter 1217: A strange noble (1)
After the announcement that Haku made, there was nothing left to do at this banquet other than to socialize with the other nobles.
With Haku’s position as the empress, it was only natural that she was popular.
The one that was the second most popular was naturally Rokuko who had been introduced as the princess of the Laver Empire.
The way that Haku had treated her had been seen by everyone, so they all knew just how important Rokuko was. If they wanted to rise up in position, it was only natural that they would want to get closer to her.
However, there was someone that was blocking their way.
"Princess, may we have a moment of your time?"
"Princess, I have this lovely vintage that I brought with me from my territory. Will you please give it a try?"
"Princess, I have this diamond necklace that was mined from the diamond mines of my territory that I wish to offer to you. Will you do me the honour of accepting this?"
Though they all tried their best, none of them succeeded.
Lin Fan didn’t even have to step forward since whenever one of them approached Rokuko, her first reaction was to hide behind him and avoid them. With the way that she hid behind him, it was almost as if she was using him as some kind of human shield against them.
Even though they had angry looks on their faces when they saw Lin Fan standing between them and Rokuko, there wasn’t anything that they could do because of where they were.
If they were to cause trouble at this banquet, there was no doubt that their social lives as nobles in this Laver Empire would be over.
At the same time, all of them were aware that Haku had been looking over from time to time even though she was surrounded by other nobles that were trying to talk to her.
With how she looked back over here, it was almost as if she was daring someone to make a move. As long as someone did anything to Rokuko, she would immediately end them.
So there really wasn’t anything that they could do other than glare.
Especially since Rokuko didn’t seem interested in anything that they had to show her at all.
From time to time, they could even see Rokuko wave her hand as if she was shooing them away.
When the nobles saw this, they really couldn’t help revealing strange bitter looks on their faces.
After all, Rokuko was supposed to be the sister of Haku, that was why she was the Laver Empire’s princess. They could see that the two of them looked alike, but when it came to how they acted...
Still, it wasn’t as if they could actually complain about her...
So the only thing that they could do was try to find something that would catch Rokuko’s interest.
Lin Fan was the only one that actually knew what Rokuko wanted since he could see her staring to the side from time to time. On that side was a buffet table that was laid out with all kinds of different dishes.
This was a royal banquet that was being held for the nobles of the Laver Empire, that meant that the dishes that were brought out were some of the best dishes in all of the Laver Empire. These were dishes that were only cooked by the best chefs that had been called from all over the land.
To be known as the best chefs in a large territory like the Laver Empire, there was no doubt that they were some of the best chefs on this entire magic continent.
So there was no need to doubt how good the food was.
Even the reactions that the nobles gave when they ate them showed just how good the food was.
Lin Fan gave a sigh before walking over to the buffet table with Rokuko behind him.
There were some that tried to lure her over with food, but it seemed like she wasn’t interested in the food that they offered her at all. The only food that she ate was the food that Lin Fan picked out and fed her.
However, doing this just made the others glare at him even more.
With the way that the two of them acted, it was as if they were showing off how deeply in love they were.
It wasn’t as if it was wrong, but it wasn’t as if Lin Fan wanted to broadcast this to everyone.
It reached the point where he could even tell that Haku was glaring at him from time to time.
The way that she did this was hidden from the nobles, but Lin Fan was aware of this since he had been on the receiving end of this glare many times. That was why even when he didn’t see it, he could feel the pressure that came from being on the receiving end.
It was just a good thing that they were at this public area where she wasn’t able to do anything.
Lin Fan just wanted to leave this place as soon as possible with how all of these nobles kept trying to approach Rokuko. However, the fact that they did all of this made someone stand out.
He was the only person that wasn’t actually trying to approach Rokuko.
In fact, he was someone that all of the other nobles ignored.
Since there was only so much space around them and Haku, it wasn’t as if all the nobles could come forward. There were many that were chatting among themselves, trying to get as much benefits out of each other as possible.
But this one noble seemed to be ignored by everyone.
Even though it was clear that they could be clearly seen by everyone, it seemed that everyone avoided this one noble.
However, it didn’t seem like the noble minded that he was being ignored as he kept picking things from the buffet and muttering to himself. It seemed like he was completely lost in his own world with the way that he acted.
It was hard to believe that someone like this was actually a noble, but there were all kinds of different people in this world.
It was just that since he was so different from the rest of the nobles, Lin Fan couldn’t help paying attention to him. After all, he was curious why this noble was different from the rest of them.
With his sharp senses, he was able to pick up the voice of the noble and hear what he was saying even though he wasn’t close to him. Even with all of the other nobles talking all around him, he was able to isolate the voice of this one strange noble.
"But if I add that part, then it would overload the circuits on the left side. It seems like the only thing that I can do is try to rewire it so that it pulls from the other side then..."
The words that he said sounded strange, but it felt familiar to Lin Fan at the same time since he came from a different world. Though it certainly was strange that a noble from the magic continent was saying things like this.
Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling more and more interested in him, so he walked over to talk to him.
This was the first time that Lin Fan took the initiative to approach someone, so naturally all of the nobles paid attention to this. It was just that when they saw the person that he approached, all of them couldn’t help glaring at him as if they thought he was crazy.
This person was clearly being ignored by everyone else, so why was he approaching him?
He had the favour of the princess, so there were many different nobles that he could have made a connection with. But out of all those nobles, he chose to approach someone who talked to himself and was ignored by everyone.
It seemed that birds of a feather really came together.
He was someone that had never been in the world of nobles and had suddenly shown up, so it could be said that he was an outcast. Then the first thing that he did was approach another outcast...
If he was just someone random, then they wouldn’t have cared.
Only the one that was with him and followed closely behind him was the princess.
This was the only person that they couldn’t let slip out of their grasps.
"This friend, you shouldn’t approach him."
"Right, he’s quite the anti social fellow."
"He never talks to anyone and just mutters to himself in the corner like this."
"It’s even said that he keeps skeletons in his manor and never goes out."
"This kind of person is dangerous."
Though all of the nobles were trying their best to dissuade Lin Fan and Rokuko from approaching that one noble, they were all ignored by Lin Fan as he walked right past them even though they were talking to him.
He just acted like he didn’t hear anything.
When he finally came up to that strange noble, he asked, "I couldn’t help overhearing what you were saying and I’m curious as to what you were muttering about."
The strange noble himself was surprised to see Lin Fan and Rokuko approach him, but his expression soon changed.
After all, this was someone that never really had anyone approach him.
That meant that he was someone that had never been able to share the thing that he was interested in with others.
