“Mu Anxiao, aren't you very capable? It's up to you now,” the wolf demon said, stepping back.
Mu Anxiao glared at the wolf demon, tugging hard on the invisible beam of light. “Feng Qishi, hold on tight!” she shouted.
Feng Qishi, holding onto the railing with one hand and the unconscious Ma Yan with the other, cried out, “Save us!”
“I will save you,” Mu Anxiao said, sweat beading on her forehead. Gripping the light beam tightly, she called out, “Do you have the strength to pull her up first?”
Feng Qishi turned his head to look at the dazed Ma Yan, who was hanging her head, and replied, “No, she’s fainted and incredibly heavy.”
“Try it, I can’t hold on much longer,” Mu Anxiao urged, pushing against the ground with all her might to avoid being pulled away.
“How can a mortal’s strength contend with mine? Are you stupid, Mu Anxiao?” the wolf demon said, glancing at the red glow in his palm.
“Wolf demon,” Mu Anxiao called out before she could turn around, “Stop it, quickly!”
“I won’t, what are you going to do about it?” the wolf demon sneered.
Mu Anxiao pulled harder on the light beam, despair gripping her as she thought of Feng Qishi’s mortal body. “Feng Qishi, you have to hold on!” she cried.
Below, onlookers looked up in terror at Feng Qishi and Ma Yan suspended in the air, on the verge of falling. They began to murmur amongst themselves.
The wolf demon, hearing the commotion from below, laughed, “It seems you’ve attracted attention.”
“Stop it, wolf demon,” Mu Anxiao yelled.
The wolf demon grinned evilly and said, “If you say another word, I’ll wake Ma Yan up and let her watch her sister die.”
“Bastard,” Mu Anxiao retorted, slowly coiling the light beam around her arm, inching closer to the iron railing.
The wolf demon snorted, hearing sounds from the door behind him. He withdrew his hand, turned, and cast a spell at the door, saying, “I’m done playing with you. See you later, Mu Anxiao.” With a spin, he vanished.
Mu Anxiao didn't have time to look back. As the tension in her hands suddenly eased, she gave a mighty pull, and Feng Qishi and Ma Yan landed safely on the ground.
Mu Anxiao breathed a sigh of relief and quickly erased Ma Yan’s recent memory, replacing it with a dream, a dream of only her and her grandfather.
Feng Qishi and Ma Yan landed simultaneously.
The crowd below collectively exhaled in relief and then dispersed, talking amongst themselves.
“What happened?” Feng Qishi sat up.
Mu Anxiao panted, retracting her spell. “Don’t speak,” she said, pointing a finger towards the door. Several uncles immediately opened the door and rushed in.
“What’s going on?”
Feng Qishi, startled, turned to the uncles and gave a sheepish smile. “She was trying to end it all, and I saved her.” He gestured towards the unconscious Ma Yan.
Uncle Number One walked over to Ma Yan and looked at her hand. “She pulled out her own IV needle,” he said.
“Uh-huh,” Feng Qishi nodded.
Mu Anxiao, sweating profusely, looked at the uncles. “It’s alright, we can…” she began, but was suddenly wrapped around the waist by something.
Feng Qishi clearly saw the hemp rope around Mu Anxiao’s waist. He then looked up to see the invisible wolf demon floating in the air, speaking to Mu Anxiao. “Let’s see if you can erase everyone’s memories,” he said, giving a hard tug.
Worried that the uncles would be frightened if they saw, Mu Anxiao quickly pressed her index finger against the hemp rope around her waist, standing rooted to the spot with all her might, pretending nothing was wrong.
Shortly after, two of the uncles carried Ma Yan and Ma Jian away.
The remaining uncle looked at Mu Anxiao and Feng Qishi. “Aren’t you two leaving?”
“We’re just catching our breath,” Feng Qishi said, sitting on the ground with a cheeky grin.
“Alright. The top floor of this hospital isn’t usually accessible. Seeing as you saved someone, you…” the uncle began, then noticed the bruises on Feng Qishi’s hands. “Young man, you should go down and get checked out.”
“It’s nothing,” Feng Qishi replied with a smile, glancing at Mu Anxiao, who was still struggling with the wolf demon. “When I’m shocked, I like to rest for a bit, otherwise, I overthink things. Please understand.”
“Alright, but go get your injuries checked later,” the uncle conceded.
Feng Qishi grinned foolishly.
The uncle left.
The moment the door closed, Mu Anxiao whipped her head around and yelled at the wolf demon, “Let go of me.”
“I won’t. Why did you help Ma Yan and not me?”
“That was a human life! Are you crazy?” Mu Anxiao said, tightly gripping the rope.
The wolf demon grinned evilly. “Fine, I won’t deal with you, I’ll deal with him.” With that, he shifted his gaze to Feng Qishi.
Feng Qishi looked up at the wolf demon, unfazed. “You’re just a lapdog, acting so arrogant.”
Hearing Feng Qishi’s provocation, Mu Anxiao said angrily, “Feng Qishi, say less.”
“Tie me up if you dare,” Feng Qishi said, standing up and spreading his arms.
The wolf demon smiled and instantly retracted the rope binding Mu Anxiao’s waist. He flew steadily in front of Feng Qishi. “Very well, if you like it so much, I’ll give you something exciting.” He then wrapped the rope around Feng Qishi’s wrist.
“Stop it!” Mu Anxiao roared, running forward and pulling the rope away, shoving Feng Qishi aside.
The wolf demon paused his action, looking down at Mu Anxiao. “Speaking of which, you were beaten badly by me that year. I wonder if you can take a hit now.” He then unexpectedly struck Mu Anxiao’s shoulder with a palm.
Mu Anxiao stumbled back half a step, looking down at her shoulder. “You think I’m still the same person I was then.”
“Of course. You drank Shen Yan’s blood, and Shen Yan is said to be a great deity, so naturally, you are too. However,” the wolf demon sneered, “I feel that everything you have now doesn’t belong to you. It should belong to him, shouldn’t it?” He glanced at Feng Qishi.
Mu Anxiao’s eyes darkened. “It’s not for you to say who I am,” she said, clenching her fists. She took a step back and suddenly kicked out.
The wolf demon swiftly dodged, looking down at Mu Anxiao’s foot. “This is Hu Yuan’s body. If you injure him, his mother will never forgive you.”
“Wolf demon, I thought you had changed for the better, but I didn’t expect you to still be such a bastard,” Mu Anxiao said, then lunged forward with a punch towards the wolf demon’s face.
“You can thank yourself for letting me know that I won’t be backlashed as long as the body’s owner agrees,” the wolf demon said, reaching out and grabbing Mu Anxiao’s fist.
Mu Anxiao struggled to pull her hand free, looking at the wolf demon. “I’m telling you, I’m not using my full power because this body isn’t yours. Don’t push me.”
“Hit me then. Remember, every punch you land on me will hurt Hu Yuan’s soul. Especially if you use immortal techniques, the damage…” the wolf demon grinned. “It scares me just thinking about it.” He then released her hand.
