“No,” the short demon shook his head with difficulty, his grip loosening due to his lack of strength. “That woman thinks you have no magic left, which is why she spoke so arrogantly. So, you can’t save me. You need to accumulate enough magic to deal with her.”
“You don’t need to worry about me,” Mu Anxiao said, her gaze hardening.
“You can’t do this. If you do, your body won’t be able to sustain it. You…”
“Stop the nonsense. I know my own body condition,” Mu Anxiao said, placing her hand directly on the short demon’s forehead. The short demon immediately fell silent.
A few minutes later, Mu Anxiao withdrew her hand and said, “Try circulating your energy yourself.”
The short demon opened his eyes, looked at Mu Anxiao with a troubled expression, and said, “Thank you.” He then sat down cross-legged and began to try circulating his energy.
Mu Anxiao breathed a sigh of relief and slumped to the ground.
Feng Qishi, seeing this, quickly asked, “Are you alright?”
Mu Anxiao shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“You…” Feng Qishi uttered one word before suddenly hearing the sound of the door opening. “Who is it?”
“Brother, it’s me.” Feng Feng walked to the foot of the bed and looked at the room, where Feng Qishi seemed to be the only person in her eyes. “Brother, has Mu Anxiao returned?”
“No,” Feng Qishi responded curtly.
“Brother, I don’t blame you for this. I know Mu Anxiao brainwashed you, which is why you’re like this. People like her are…”
“Feng Feng, what were you trying to say?” Feng Qishi interrupted coldly.
Feng Feng’s eyes darkened as she said, “I want to say, please don’t associate with that kind of person anymore. She has ulterior motives. If it weren’t for her, our family wouldn’t be in such a mess, I wouldn’t have so many troubles, you wouldn’t have attempted suicide, and you wouldn’t be treating me like this. So, please, don’t associate with her anymore.”
Mu Anxiao furrowed her brow as she looked at Feng Feng’s earnest expression.
The short demon opened his eyes and looked at Feng Feng’s face, saying, “She has turned you into a sinner.”
“I know,” Mu Anxiao nodded and stood up, looking at Feng Qishi. “Just consider me the sinner in your family.”
Feng Qishi slanted his eyes and looked at Feng Feng, saying, “Who I associate with is none of your business. Besides, even if that person hadn’t come, Mother’s attitude towards me would have been the same. Please don’t shift the blame for hurting me onto an outsider. Also, have you forgotten all the kindness she’s shown you?”
“How has she been kind to me? I don’t remember,” Feng Feng said, pointing to herself. “I saved myself. What does she have to do with it?”
Mu Anxiao offered no comment.
Feng Qishi, not wanting to talk to her, closed his eyes.
Feng Feng said coldly, “Now I finally understand why Mother dislikes you. It’s because you’re always taking the side of outsiders. You’d rather be good to a stranger than to me. Feng Qishi, I hate you.”
Feng Qishi clenched his fists, at a loss for what to say to his sister before him.
“Since you’re not going to talk, then never speak to me again,” Feng Feng said, turning and leaving.
Then, Mu Anxiao stood up and walked to Feng Qishi’s bedside, saying, “Actually, her analysis isn’t entirely wrong. If it weren’t for me, your family wouldn’t have experienced these things.”
“If it weren’t for you,” Feng Qishi opened his eyes, “this family would have become even worse. Feng Feng would have been completely corrupted by that evil spirit, and she wouldn’t have survived. Even without you, my mother’s attitude towards me wouldn’t have changed; it would have become even more hostile, and she would have kept pushing me into blind dates. Perhaps, without you, my fate would have been even more tragic. So, this has nothing to do with you. It’s their own issues, it always has been. They always love to shift the blame onto unrelated people to showcase their own goodness. It can’t be helped; they won’t change.”
“You…”
“Are you surprised that I can say such things?” Feng Qishi interrupted Mu Anxiao and asked.
Mu Anxiao nodded.
Feng Qishi gave a bitter smile. “Sometimes, I wonder if I’m even a part of this family. They always leave the bad things for me and keep the good things for themselves. Rather than being a member of this family, I’m merely an observer witnessing their character. Growing up, I always wondered when I would blend in with them, when I would enjoy the treatment they receive. But now, it seems,” he sighed, “those thoughts were just my dreams, one unrealistic dream after another.”
Mu Anxiao was speechless after hearing Feng Qishi’s words.
Feng Qishi looked at Mu Anxiao staring at him and smiled. “Do I seem pitiful?”
“Yes,” Mu Anxiao nodded.
“Actually, I’ve never felt pitiful. I’ve only felt unfortunate,” Feng Qishi said, taking a breath.
Mu Anxiao hesitated, pursed her lips, and said, “Everything will be alright.”
“Mhm,” Feng Qishi smiled faintly.
Mu Anxiao smiled back at him and said, “Rest well, I’ll be going now.”
“Where are you going?” Feng Qishi asked, suddenly feeling a pain in his chest. “Strange, why does my chest suddenly feel uncomfortable?” He touched his chest.
Mu Anxiao frowned, quickly stepped forward, bent down, and drew a line with her index finger above Feng Qishi’s chest, her eyes widening in surprise. “How can this be?”
“What’s wrong?” Feng Qishi was covered in a cold sweat.
“The wound I repaired for you earlier, how…?” Mu Anxiao looked at Feng Qishi’s body and said, “How did it all revert to how it looked after you fell from above?”
“It’s related to emotions.”
Hearing this, Mu Anxiao looked down at the spirit child that had appeared and asked, “How do we explain this?”
The spirit child quickly cast a pain-relieving spell on Feng Qishi’s body and said, “His mortal body is already damaged. Coupled with the influence of his family and the emotional fluctuations he’s experienced these past two days, his body is instinctively resisting the repair of immortal arts. The areas you repaired have gradually reverted to how they were damaged that day.” He glanced at Feng Qishi. “Now, those immortal arts have entered his immortal soul, and his body… is gradually losing its support.”
“No, I already repaired his damaged internal organs?” Mu Anxiao asked, confused.
“They were repaired, but he himself no longer wishes to live. Also,” the spirit child sighed, “if you think about it this way, any immortal could privately save whomever they wished to save, wouldn’t the world be in chaos?”
“Then tell me, can I still save him?” Mu Anxiao asked, running a hand through her already disheveled hair.
“His lifespan has ended,” the spirit child shook his head. “There’s no saving him.”
“But he was just fine!” Mu Anxiao felt a wave of despair.
