"Are those ghosts?" Mu Anxiao pointed at the two terrifying floating spirits.
Ye Yin calmly looked at the two floating objects and said, "They are not ghosts, just spirits."
"Why do spirits look like that?" Mu Anxiao trembled all over.
"Let me tell you a secret. They are spirits who maintain the balance of the world. You can't just tell humans about what you've seen. If they hear you," Ye Yin shook her head at Mu Anxiao, "you'll be in trouble."
"Why would I be in trouble?"
"Because they are mysterious beings. If you reveal them, they won't be mysterious anymore. And especially, you must never brag about the yin messengers. If you do, you'll be targeted by them too." Ye Yin pointed at the two floating spirits that were slowly turning towards them.
Mu Anxiao saw the two floating spirits turn towards them and quickly stepped back. "Even if I told them, no one would believe me. Besides, if I kept talking about these things, people would get annoyed. I..." She held her breath in fear and stammered, "I, I, I definitely won't say anything."
"Alright, you'll get used to it slowly," Ye Yin patted Mu Anxiao's shoulder.
Mu Anxiao looked at Ye Yin with a dazed expression and said, "Looking at you now, I feel a little closer to you."
"Let's go," Ye Yin grabbed Mu Anxiao's still trembling arm.
Mu Anxiao nodded and asked, "Where are we going back to?"
"The courtyard," Ye Yin said two words.
Instantly, Mu Anxiao violently shook off Ye Yin's hand. "I'm not going back."
"It's fine if you don't want to go back," Ye Yin said naturally, glancing at the two spirits tilting their heads towards them. "But I'll be upfront. Those things really like to bully newcomers who see them. If you want to be bullied, don't follow me." She deliberately pushed Mu Anxiao a little away from herself.
Mu Anxiao's nerves tensed. She glanced sideways at the two things and puckered her dry lips. "If I follow you, please don't throw me into that well. What if that... vine spirit is inside? I'll be finished."
"You won't be," Ye Yin smiled.
In that moment, Mu Anxiao couldn't help but feel a sense of security from Ye Yin. She stepped forward and took Ye Yin's arm.
"I can help you," Ye Yin said, turning her face.
"Huh?" Mu Anxiao didn't understand her meaning for a moment.
"I am helping you, so you should help me too, right?"
Mu Anxiao looked at Ye Yin, completely bewildered, and blinked. "How have you helped me?"
"I'm giving you a sense of security, isn't that helping?" Ye Yin continued to smile at Mu Anxiao.
Looking at Ye Yin's smile, Mu Anxiao felt a sense of foreboding.
"I've never heard anyone say that before. Is a sense of security considered help?"
"That's because you've never truly received care from someone..."
"Who says I haven't? My parents gave me that. My parents never said it came with conditions," Mu Anxiao interrupted excitedly.
"Everyone in this world, other than your parents, who gives you a sense of security is not pure," Ye Yin said.
However, Mu Anxiao didn't agree with Ye Yin's words. She withdrew her arm from Ye Yin's and took a step back. "Although I'm foolish, I think what you're saying is too absolute. I believe a large portion of people genuinely help others."
"I don't want to talk to you anymore," Ye Yin glared at Mu Anxiao and turned to walk away.
Mu Anxiao looked at Ye Yin's receding figure, pouted, and still followed.
