Shen Yan remained silent.
Mu Anxiao turned her gaze back to the book, then, inexplicably, understood its contents. "I can actually read all of this," she exclaimed in surprise.
"This page is filled with characters I’ve taught you, so of course you can understand it," Shen Yan said, glancing at Mu Anxiao.
Mu Anxiao glanced back at Shen Yan, reading and muttering the words as she went.
Before long, Mu Anxiao closed the immortal book. "I've memorized it," she declared, handing the book back to Shen Yan.
Shen Yan took the book. "It will depend on you later," he said, tucking the book into his embrace.
"I find it strange," Mu Anxiao said, looking at the Yin messenger and then at Shen Yan. "You two are both more powerful than me, so why am I the one doing everything? I'm seriously starting to suspect I'm just a puppet for you both."
"A puppet? If you were a puppet, you wouldn't be sitting here talking to us like this," the Yin messenger said.
Shen Yan nodded in agreement, pointing at the Yin messenger. "What you said makes sense."
The Yin messenger raised an eyebrow.
Mu Anxiao looked at the expressions of the Yin messenger and Shen Yan, rendered speechless.
In the back courtyard room, a woman looked angrily at the wolf demon sitting cross-legged on the table. "I never expected that I was being used by my master all along."
"Aren't you using me too?" the wolf demon said, opening its eyes.
The woman faltered. "No, I was just following my master's instructions. How would I dare use you, great deity?"
"No need for flattery. I am just a demon, not some great deity," the wolf demon said, then furrowed its brow thoughtfully. "Let me ask you a question: where did your master learn that one could achieve immortality by borrowing the power of demons?"
"I don't know, it seems to be..." the woman thought for a moment, then said, "An immortal book that my master found previously."
"An immortal book? Have you read it?"
The woman pursed her lips and nodded twice, not daring to lie.
"And what did it contain?" the wolf demon asked.
The woman pushed a strand of hair from her eyes. "It recorded various types of demons. My master told me to find you, saying you were the most powerful one. The other Immortal Fated junior sisters have gone to find those other demons, and they have now been consumed by you."
"Your master is deliberately feeding me," the wolf demon said, a smile tugging at its lips.
The woman chuckled. "Yes. But," she added, "I am the one who truly fed you. I brought them here. I suspect my master doesn't even know that the junior sisters are already dead."
"Your ambition is quite considerable," the wolf demon said with a slight smile.
"Outside, you cooperate with me. Here, of course, I should obey you," the woman said sweetly.
"Your words are sweet. I've eaten my fill these past few days," the wolf demon said, suddenly remembering the woman's unhappy demeanor upon their return. "Oh, right, what happened between you and your Immortal Fated junior sister?"
"Nothing," the woman said, averting her gaze.
The wolf demon narrowed its eyes, scrutinizing the woman's intentionally evasive expression. "If you don't tell me the truth, I will leave."
"I'll tell you," the woman said, suddenly raising her head.
"Speak."
"I actually never knew that my junior sister had Immortal Fate, and my master never told me. I..." the woman took a deep breath. "I am not a person of qualification. I don't actually have Immortal Fate."
"If you did, you would have already been in my belly," the wolf demon said.
"What do you mean by that?" the woman asked, confused.
"I already knew your master had been lying to you. That's why I cooperated with you," the wolf demon said.
The woman's eyes darkened. "You... have also been deceiving me, using me..."
