Chapter 212: Adventurer’s Guild

Chapter 212: Adventurer’s Guild

"You’re here to register for the Adventurer’s Guild? Do you know what kind of place this is?"

The receptionist that was behind the counter looked at me with a strange look after I came over, but I just firmly said, "That’s right, I’m here to register."

In the end, there were some people on the side that suddenly said, "This isn’t a place for kids like you. You shouldn’t mess around in a place like this."

Though they said this in a gruff voice, the way that they said it was as if they were showing concern. Even their faces made them seem like thugs since they were rough looking guys.

At the same time, I could feel a trace of envy that was in their voices when they said this, so it wasn’t as if they were completely looking out for me.

But still I said, "Thank you for your concern, but I’m certain that I want to register as an adventurer."

"What concern? We’re just worried about being dragged down by a kid like you." They said this before walking away, but they didn’t actually seem to mean it.

Even though they looked rough, it seemed like they were big softies deep down.

Seeing that I didn’t leave, the receptionist gave a sigh before she said, "Then you’ll have to take a test before you can register."

She didn’t even bother saying anything else as she went to the back as if she was calling for someone.

I had been observing earlier and saw that there was no one else that had to take this test. So this test was most likely their way of chasing me off by sending someone that they thought was stronger than me to scare me away from becoming an adventurer.

It was like showing me real world experience so that I wouldn’t want to become an adventurer anymore.

But regardless of what they had to show, it wasn’t as if I would be scared that easily.

Especially since I was stronger than whoever they were planning on sending out to scare me.

After a while, the receptionist came back with another rough looking man.

When she did, I couldn’t help raising one brow while looking at him.

That was because I could feel the pressure that came from him.

It seemed that this wasn’t just any normal examiner that they found to teach me a lesson.

"Are you the kid that’s trying to become an adventurer?" The rough looking man asked in a tough voice.

I just simply gave a nod in response without saying anything.

When the rough looking man saw this, he narrowed his eyes to look at me as if he was scoping me up. But in the end, he didn’t say anything either as he turned around and waved his hand at me to follow him.

The receptionist gave a sigh before saying to me, "He’s your examiner. Please follow him to the location of your exam."

Then without waiting for me to say anything, she started following the examiner as well.

The receptionist moved faster than the examiner to catch up to him and then leaned in to whisper something in his ears. However, it didn’t seem like the examiner was willing to listen to her as he just kept walking without slowing down.

There wasn’t a single moment where he turned back to look at me.

After a while, we finally arrived at the testing ground.

This was an arena inside of the Adventurer’s Guild that covered a wide and open space.

Without hesitation, the examiner jumped down and said, "If you want to become an adventurer, then you have to show me how strong you are. If you can’t even do that, then don’t even think about becoming an adventurer."

I didn’t have a reaction to this since I didn’t really know this person, but it was clear that the others did.

The moment that they heard this, they all looked at the examiner with shocked looks.

At the same time, the receptionist had her head in her hand as if she was done with the examiner.

It was clear that there was something special about this examiner that they would have this reaction after he said this.

But it wasn’t as if he was giving me much of a choice.

Even though the receptionist looked like she was done with the examiner, she didn’t say anything that refuted what he said. That meant that if I really wanted to become an adventurer, I had no choice but to go along with this.

So in the end, I said with a sigh, "Then I hope that you won’t go back on your word when the time comes."

The examiner narrowed his eyes to look at me after I said this before saying with a snort, "I won’t go back on my word."

With that, I started heading into the arena.

Before I could, the receptionist came forward and said, "Are you sure about this? It’s not too late to stop this now..."

The way that she said this showed the concern that she had for my safety.

It was just that the entire reason that I came here was to become an adventurer, so it wasn’t as if I could back down now.

The only thing that I could do was push forward and see this through.

Seeing that I wouldn’t back down, the receptionist just said with a sigh, "If it seems like it’s going to go wrong, I will stop this."

She didn’t bother asking this, she just stated this as if it was a fact.

Even though they were clearly against me, trying to scare me away from the life of an adventurer, it was clear that these people were doing it because they cared.

They were much softer on the inside than the display that they had on the outside.

Still, it wasn’t as if I could back down.

"I’ll be fine." I said in a confident voice, but the others looked at me like I was deluded.

They treated me as if I was some kid that needed to be taught a lesson.
