Overlord Star

Chapter 706 Being Calculated

As the workday ended, Dongfang Mei finally finished her tasks.

“Let’s go home!” Jiang Yi said.

“We can’t go back yet. I need to go to the bank to handle some company account matters. Didn’t you say you had nothing else to do? Accompany me!” Dongfang Mei said.

“Okay!”

Jiang Yi nodded.

After leaving the Royal Hotel, Jiang Yi drove Dongfang Mei to the Jingcheng Bank.

Jingcheng Bank was the largest bank in Jingcheng. Its clients were all wealthy individuals and major business owners from Jingcheng, as the bank only served accounts of large corporations.

Ordinary private users couldn't even open a card.

Jingcheng Bank only provided services for corporate accounts.

As Jiang Yi drove a short distance, he saw a car accident at the intersection ahead.

All the vehicles were stuck on the road, and personnel were handling the situation.

The accident involved more than a dozen cars colliding with each other, and there were casualties.

Traffic would not be cleared for at least a few hours.

By then, Jingcheng Bank would probably be closed.

“I know a road nearby that can get us around, but it’s a bit out of the way!” Dongfang Mei said.

“No problem!”

Jiang Yi replied, started the car, and drove towards the adjacent lane.

They had to leave immediately, otherwise, once the cars behind them caught up, they wouldn’t be able to get away!

When Jiang Yi drove onto the road Dongfang Mei mentioned, he felt a bit frustrated.

This road barely qualified as a road; it was full of narrow alleys that went through residential areas.

Just as the car was about to exit an alley, a black van suddenly came head-on, blocking the alley.

Soon, several more vans arrived from behind.

Jiang Yi’s car was completely blocked in the middle.

“You stay in the car!”

Jiang Yi said to Dongfang Mei, “These guys are probably here for us.”

With that, Jiang Yi got out of the car.

As soon as Jiang Yi stepped out, he saw twenty-three men emerge from the vans in front and behind. They were all mercenaries, looking fierce and exuding an aura of killing intent.

Leading them was a bald man.

This guy was likely the captain of these mercenaries.

Without a doubt, they were sent by the Vice President.

Seeing that the assassination attempt had failed before, the Vice President had not given up and continued to send people to assassinate Dongfang Mei.

“Jiang Yi, I didn’t expect you to be here too!”

The bald man stared at Jiang Yi with murderous intent.

“You know me?” Jiang Yi asked.

“Of course, I do!”

The bald man sneered, “The Vice President showed me your photo and said you were a difficult person to deal with. Now it seems you’re nothing special. I just created a car accident and led you into this alley!”

Jiang Yi’s brow furrowed.

He hadn’t expected the car accident to be their doing.

This accident had caused so many casualties, yet he was still gloating.

Such a person was truly scum.

“Jiang Yi, you and Dongfang Mei won’t escape today. If you’re smart, hand over the Vice President’s brother-in-law, and I can give you a quick death. Otherwise, I’ll make your lives worse than death,” the bald man said smugly, staring at Jiang Yi.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yi couldn’t help but laugh.

With their numbers, they were no match for him, and yet they dared to threaten him.

“The Vice President’s brother-in-law is in my hands. If you want him, you’ll have to show some real skill!” Jiang Yi said with a slight smile.

“I know you’re a good fighter, but don’t forget, you have Dongfang Mei with you. With so many of us, you can’t possibly protect her. Even if I can’t kill you, I can kill Dongfang Mei!” the bald man said with great confidence.

Jiang Yi sneered.

“Attack!”

The bald man shouted loudly.

Upon receiving the order, the mercenaries charged at Jiang Yi.

Four or five of them headed straight for Dongfang Mei in the car.

Jiang Yi didn’t pay them much attention, as long as Dongfang Mei stayed in the car, he would finish off the mercenaries in front of him within a minute.

However, to Jiang Yi’s surprise, Dongfang Mei actually got out of the car.

This left Jiang Yi speechless!

“Why did you get out of the car? It’s dangerous, get back inside quickly!”

Jiang Yi shouted.

“It’s fine, I haven’t had a good stretch in a while!”

Dongfang Mei said with a slight smile.

At that moment, one of the mercenaries had already rushed in front of Dongfang Mei, aiming a dagger straight for her throat.

Jiang Yi’s face changed drastically.

He was too far away from Dongfang Mei to help her.

Just as Jiang Yi was worrying about Dongfang Mei, he saw her dodge the mercenary’s attack and then take him down to the ground.

Dongfang Mei’s movements were extremely skilled, almost seamless.

The remaining mercenaries, seeing this, continued to charge at Dongfang Mei, only to be easily taken down by her.

Dongfang Mei’s combat skills were no less than Shen Lu’s.

Jiang Yi also didn’t stand idle and began to act.

In less than a minute, Jiang Yi and Dongfang Mei had taken down all the mercenaries.

The bald man was stunned on the spot when he saw this.

He knew Jiang Yi was skilled, but he hadn’t expected Dongfang Mei to be so formidable as well.

These mercenaries were all trained fighters, yet over a dozen of them couldn't even touch Dongfang Mei’s clothes.

Jiang Yi was also somewhat surprised.

He had known Dongfang Mei for so long, yet this was the first time he discovered she had such great combat skills. He had always assumed she was not good at fighting.

She had even deceived him!

If they hadn't encountered trouble today, he probably would have remained ignorant.

While Jiang Yi was lost in thought, the bald man had already driven away!

Jiang Yi did not chase after him.

Dongfang Mei still had to go to Jingcheng Bank, and Jiang Yi didn’t want to waste time on the bald man.

Jiang Yi returned to the car and started it again.

After exiting the alley, as Jiang Yi drove, he asked Dongfang Mei, “You’re so skilled, why did you keep deceiving me?”

“I didn’t deceive you!”

Dongfang Mei said, “Usually, Yingzi and you protect me, so I never had a chance to act. Besides, you were the one who assumed I wasn’t skilled.”

Jiang Yi felt a wry smile spread across his face.

What Dongfang Mei said was indeed true.

“When I saw you in action just now, your skills were even better than Yingzi’s. Where did you learn this ability?” Jiang Yi asked.

“I started learning martial arts and Taekwondo at a very young age. My instructors were world combat champions and Taekwondo champions, so naturally, my skills are better than Yingzi’s,” Dongfang Mei replied. “My mother made me learn these skills so I could protect myself. Unfortunately, ever since I met you, I haven’t even had a chance to fight anyone. I only acted just now because I was worried you were in danger and couldn’t help myself!”
