Chapter 78 Probing Shen Lu

“Who are you, and why do you want to kill me?” Shen Lu stared at the masked man.

The masked man ignored her, tightened his grip on the dagger, and lunged at her again.

Soon, the two were locked in a fierce struggle. Shen Lu's skills far surpassed those of the masked man. After a short while, the masked man could no longer defend himself. He sustained several hits, leaving him with multiple wounds and bleeding profusely.

The masked man had no choice but to escape through the window.

Shen Lu did not pursue him. Instead, she turned to Jiang Yi and asked, "Doctor Zhang, are you alright?"

Jiang Yi deliberately feigned fear, remaining speechless for a long time.

“That masked man was likely sent by the family!” Shen Lu's eyes flashed with killing intent. “The family has tried to take my life more than once. As long as I live, I will always be a threat to them.”

Jiang Yi remained silent.

Shen Lu, with her exceptional combat skills, might be the female assassin he was looking for. Her suspicion was the highest. However, there was one more thing Jiang Yi wanted to confirm: the scorpion tattoo. If Shen Lu had a scorpion tattoo, it would prove she was the female assassin. Good fighting skills didn't necessarily make someone an assassin.

“Director Shen, your martial prowess is truly astonishing,” Jiang Yi said, feigning surprise.

“I started learning boxing and taekwondo at a very young age. It was the only way I could protect myself. If I didn't have these skills, I would have probably been killed by my own family long ago,” Shen Lu said with a self-deprecating smile.

Jiang Yi said nothing more. Shen Lu was the most suspicious. He just needed to keep a close eye on her.

“Doctor Zhang, I’m so sorry for almost getting you involved!” Shen Lu said to Jiang Yi. “You don’t need to rush to answer me about our collaboration. You can take your time to consider it.”

With that, Shen Lu left. Jiang Yi watched her retreating figure and shrugged. Shen Lu was indeed pitiful. But he had no interest in their collaboration. His sole purpose was to investigate whether Shen Lu was the female assassin he was seeking. If she was, he would show no mercy. He had sworn an oath that he would not let any member of that assassin organization escape, regardless of how pitiful they might be.

After leaving the restaurant, Jiang Yi prepared to hail a taxi home. Suddenly, a car drove towards him. It was Chen Kun’s car. Jiang Yi opened the door and got in. He saw Chen Kun sitting in the driver's seat, his face deathly pale. Chen Kun was covered in wounds, and blood stained the car everywhere.

The masked man from earlier was none other than Chen Kun. Jiang Yi had deliberately sent Chen Kun to test Shen Lu.

“Don’t move, I’ll stop the bleeding for you.” Jiang Yi then took out silver needles and inserted them into Chen Kun's acupoints. Soon, Chen Kun’s bleeding stopped, and the pain gradually subsided.

Jiang Yi gave Chen Kun a prescription that would help his injuries heal quickly. Chen Kun knew that anything Jiang Yi gave him was valuable. He carefully memorized the prescription, hiding it close to his body to avoid losing it.

“That woman is too powerful!” Chen Kun took a deep breath. “Chairman, I apologize for disgracing you!”

“You didn’t disgrace me! You’ve only been learning martial arts for a little over ten days, and you managed to hold her off for so long. That’s already quite commendable!” Jiang Yi said.

Chen Kun felt a surge of pride at Jiang Yi’s praise. Jiang Yi was telling the truth; Chen Kun was indeed a promising talent.

“When your injuries have healed, I need you to do something for me,” Jiang Yi said.

“Chairman, these injuries are nothing. Please, just tell me what you need,” Chen Kun replied hastily.

“I need you to discreetly investigate whether that woman has a scorpion tattoo. This matter must be kept confidential. Do not tell anyone, not even those closest to you,” Jiang Yi instructed, fixing his gaze on Chen Kun.

“Okay!” Chen Kun nodded.

However, a moment later, Chen Kun’s face showed a hint of helplessness. “Chairman, this task might be a bit difficult!” Chen Kun said with a wry smile. “That woman’s skills are too formidable. I couldn’t get close to her at all. Besides, I can’t just strip her clothes off and examine every inch of her body, can I? I’m not a gentleman, but I can’t do something like that either.”

This was indeed a difficult task. Chen Kun, afraid of displeasing Jiang Yi, quickly added, “It’s not that I don’t want to help you with this, Chairman. I just feel that it might be impossible to complete. I will do my best.”

Jiang Yi nodded.

“Chairman, who exactly is that woman? And what’s with the scorpion tattoo?” Chen Kun asked curiously.

“Don’t ask what you shouldn’t ask!” Jiang Yi said. Seeing Jiang Yi’s displeasure, Chen Kun immediately fell silent.

“Tell me immediately once you have accomplished this task!” Jiang Yi said.

“Okay!” Chen Kun nodded. After reiterating his instructions, Jiang Yi got out of Chen Kun’s car.

Jiang Yi did not go straight home. He hailed a taxi and headed for Tiansheng Group. Liu Feng would be bringing people from the Jiang Province Chamber of Commerce to seal off Tiansheng Group tomorrow. Jiang Yi intended to make some preparations. This time, the Liu family had to be eliminated. He could not afford to be soft-hearted when dealing with the Liu family.

An hour later, Jiang Yi arrived at the lobby of Tiansheng Group. The fact that Jiang Yi was the chairman of Tiansheng Group was no longer a secret. Tiansheng Group had ceased operations, and the once bustling company now appeared deserted. Jiang Yi scanned the lobby. Only two receptionists were dozing in their chairs behind the counter. Seeing Jiang Yi arrive, they quickly straightened up.

In his office, Jiang Yi took out his phone and opened a WeChat group. It had been years since he had married into the Ye family, and this was the first time he had reopened this WeChat group. The group had only a little over fifty people, but each of them was a top figure in various industries across China. Jiang Yi scrolled through the members of the WeChat group, but he couldn’t find a suitable candidate. Any one of these influential figures, if they were to make a move, could make anyone in China tremble. For them to deal with a mere Liu Feng would be like using an elephant to crush an ant—completely unnecessary.

Just as Jiang Yi was hesitating, there was a knock on his office door.

“Come in!” Jiang Yi called out. As soon as he finished speaking, the office door opened. It was Dong Rui.

“Chairman, here is the contract I signed according to your instructions.” Dong Rui placed the contract on the desk and said with a smile, “This contract is valid for thirty years. This company is the only one that still has cooperation with Tiansheng Group. All other companies have long since fled.”

Jiang Yi picked up the contract, curious to see which company it was. When he saw the company’s name, a hint of self-mockery appeared on Jiang Yi’s face. It turned out to be Ye Yanran’s company.
