Chapter 282: Chapter 282 Trembling All Over Chapter 282: Chapter 282 Trembling All Over the old residence
After sending Madam Xie back home, Xuexue ran out again and plucked some medicinal herbs commonly used for bruises and injuries by the roadside. Coincidentally, Chuner also returned from the riverbank, chatting nonstop to her about how they had just supported Madam Xie away when Lady Li’s humiliating exposure occurred in the river.
“Serves her right! She’s always talking about people having no shame, and now she’s shown herself to everyone. I guess she’ll have to keep her head down from now on,” Xuexue said after listening, clearly in a great mood.
“That’s called karma.”
“Exactly.” The two sisters were united in their animosity.
“Big sister, is mom badly hurt?” Chuner crouched down to help Xuexue pull up herbs while asking.
“It’s nothing serious, just a scratch on her arm. We’ll apply some herbal medicine to reduce the inflammation and she’ll be better in a couple of days.”
“Oh! You scared me. Mom never fights and yet she erupted today,” Chuner said incredulously.
Indeed, back at the Mo family, Old Lady Mo used to beat and scold her every day, but she never saw her fight back, always submissive. Today, Madam Xie’s behavior was truly unexpected.
That’s why they say even a cornered rabbit will bite. It all comes down to this.
When they got home, Xuexue took a bowl and a small piece of wood, crushed the herbs, and then carefully applied the paste to Madam Xie’s arm.
“Mom, does it hurt?” Xuexue asked as she applied the medicine, worried she might be causing her pain.
“It doesn’t hurt.”
The rage from the fight had subsided, and Madam Xie felt a wave of fear in retrospect, scarcely believing that she had been so fierce in beating up Lady Li: “Xuexue, we didn’t kill Lady Li, did we?”
“Hey, it’s not that easy to die; she’s fine.”
“But Big Bull threw her into the river… I wonder if anything happened? In the past, many people have drowned in that river.” Madam Xie felt somewhat guilty. If she hadn’t been so impulsive to fight with Lady Li, then Xuexue and Big Bull wouldn’t have had to come to her, and Lady Li wouldn’t have been thrown into the river.
“Lady Li is not dead, Chuner just told me on her way back. The water at that spot is shallow, only knee-deep, no problem. That old hag has already gone home, and I reckon she won’t dare to go out for a few days.”
“She has a thick face, she won’t hide just because her lies were exposed,” Madam Xie said, disbelieving.
“It’s for another reason,” Xuexue said with a mysterious smile.
“Such a thick-skinned person, what could possibly keep her from facing people?”
“Mom, it’s true, I’m not lying to you.”
Xuexue then repeated the story Chuner had told her to Madam Xie.
“She deserves it, for spreading rumors for no reason.” Madam Xie listened, dumbfounded.
To be seen naked under the public gaze indeed brought disgrace; just the thought of it made Madam Xie shudder. If it had happened to her, she wouldn’t just be afraid to see people – she might even feel like dying.
“That’s her own fault for being so foolish. She must have known she was exposed, yet she ran toward the shore. Wasn’t that just inviting people to look?” Xuexue said with a smirk, “If she wants to be provocative, no one can stop her, right?”
Relieved that no life was lost, Madam Xie sighed in relief, then became worried again: “She’s suffered such a huge loss; she definitely won’t let things rest. What are we to do?”
“We’ll deal with the future when it comes, Mom. Don’t worry, we’re here for you.”
“Thank goodness for you and Big Bull. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known what to do,” Madam Xie said, still shaken. Ever since she was divorced by Mo Xiaoqiang and moved to the old residence, all their living expenses were covered by the money Xuexue managed to earn. Fortunately, Big Bull later came to their house and gave Xuexue a lot of help. She truly hoped that Big Bull would end up with Xuexue.
“Don’t worry, Mom, Xuexue will always be with you.” Xuexue spoke as she finished bandaging her mother’s wound.
