Chapter 259 - 259 259 Grabbing Meat to Eat

Chapter 259: Chapter 259 Grabbing Meat to Eat Chapter 259: Chapter 259 Grabbing Meat to Eat The next day
At noon, the members of the Mo family were gathered around the table eating.

Old Lady Mo knew that Mo Xiaoqiang had managed to stay at the old residence for dinner the previous night and was very pleased; a real father had a different impact indeed.

“Qiangqiang, did you ask Madam Xie, that wretched woman, for silver?”

“With that idiot over there, such a sensitive issue, how could I dare to ask?” Mo Xiaoqiang said listlessly, pushing the green vegetables around on his plate; they were wilted and dull, without a trace of oil, and recalling last night’s meal at the old residence left him savoring the memory.

“Are you a pig or what? So stupid, don’t you know to quietly pull that wretched woman aside and ask her? Just make sure Xuexue doesn’t hear,” Old Lady Mo said, thinking herself quite clever.

“Madam Xie isn’t mute, would she not speak out?” Mo Xiaoqiang scoffed, dismissing the idea as ridiculous.

“Calling you stupid, and you won’t admit it. You’ve been married to Madam Xie for over a decade; don’t you know she’s timid and weak-willed? Don’t worry, she’s scared of Xuexue making a fuss, she’ll definitely not dare to tell, she might even give you the silver right away,” Old Lady Mo grew more gleeful as she spoke, as if the silver was already in front of her.

Indeed, previously when Old Lady Mo stole Madam Xie’s dowry, Madam Xie, knowing about it, didn’t dare to utter a single word, not even a fart.

“Hmm! Maybe.” Mo Xiaoqiang thought for a moment, it did seem true, and he nodded, saying, “I’ll go to the old residence again when Xuexue and that fool are not at home.”

“Hmm!” Old Lady Mo finally satisfied, tossed a piece of cured meat into Mo Xiaoqiang’s bowl as a reward.

Madam Ruan and Aunt Sun watched the piece of meat with gleaming eyes, swallowing involuntarily, drooling, cursing Old Lady Mo inside for being selfish and stingy. She dined on meat every day, leaving them, the women of the household, to gnaw on vegetables. They had not eaten meat for years yet had to watch Old Lady Mo and the men enjoy meat right in front of them—it was as if she wanted to torture them with envy.

“Mother, can we add more oil when cooking from now on? It’s not like our family can’t afford it.” Reminded of the meals at the old residence, Mo Xiaoqiang lost his appetite, throwing his chopsticks down on the table, no longer interested in eating.

“Wow! What a surprise, Big Brother even won’t eat the cured meat?” Mo Daoyan glanced into his bowl and saw the meat his mother had given him, untouched.

“What’s so good about a few pieces of lousy cured meat?” Mo Xiaoqiang sneered, “The food at the old residence is a hundred times better than ours.”

“Is it because you had good food at the old residence last night, and today, our family’s food is too poor for you to swallow?” Mo Daoyan said, while simultaneously picking up the piece of cured meat from Mo Xiaoqiang’s bowl; it was a good piece of food, shouldn’t be wasted.

Madam Ruan quietly tugged at his sleeve.

Mo Daoyan didn’t understand what was happening, turned his head to look at his wife, and Madam Ruan nodded toward the cured meat in his hand, clearly indicating she wanted some.

Reluctantly letting go of the piece he had just picked up, Mo Daoyan hurriedly tossed it into her bowl under her stern gaze.

Madam Ruan was happy, picking it up to eat, when suddenly she heard the pitiful voice of Xiuzhi: “Mother.”

Madam Ruan understood that her daughter was asking her for some meat. She struggled internally but eventually couldn’t resist Xiuzhi’s mournful eyes, and reluctantly threw it into her bowl, saying, “Eat.”

Aunt Sun watched as they snatched Mo Xiaoqiang’s piece of meat, feeling very annoyed. That meat was initially meant for her, but now, since she and Mo Xiaoqiang were not on good terms, she was very angry but didn’t dare to speak up, only sulking with her head down.
