Chapter 562 - 562 562 Mage

Chapter 562: Chapter 562 Mage Chapter 562: Chapter 562 Mage “Why is she bringing a mage to our house?” Xuexue asked, bewildered.

“These days, people in the village have been saying that Sister is possessed by evil spirits. They say the haunting in our village is due to the vile aura emanating from Sister. Grandmother said she invited the mage to exorcise Sister and to check on our house’s Feng Shui. Chuner felt that Grandmother’s intentions were not good, so she hurried over to tell Sister,” Chuner explained.

Old Lady Mo’s move was as clear as Sima Zhao’s intentions, known to every passerby; even young Chuner could see that she was up to no good.

“Where’s mother?”

“That charlatan of a mage spouted nonsense and even said our mother is an ill omen. Sister, what should we do? Big Bull Brother isn’t here, and there’s no one to protect our family.” Chuner looked anxiously at Xuexue, truly afraid their days might return to the time when they were at the mercy of the Mo family.

“Then we must hurry back home.” Upon hearing this, Xuexue feared that Madam Xie would be bullied at home by themselves. She immediately became anxious. She no longer cared about the basket and threw it in the field. These baskets, woven from bamboo she gathered from the mountains, weren’t worth much in the countryside. Left in the field, they were unlikely to be stolen.

Xie Residence
The entrance to the courtyard was packed with a crowd of onlookers.

Old Lady Mo had brought a mage to the Xie Residence.

She had stirred up the neighbors, who all ran over to join in the excitement.

The villagers surrounded the entrance to the Xie Residence, making it three layers deep, inside and out, and impenetrable.

The villagers of Mo Family Village were rather superstitious. These days, they had all been spreading rumors about Xuexue being possessed by evil spirits and were very wary of her. Now that Old Lady Mo had especially invited a mage to perform an exorcism for Xuexue, everyone crowded around to watch, curious to see how the mage would drive out the evil spirits.

In the center of the courtyard stood a person resembling a Taoist, around fifty or sixty years old, with a tuft of beard on his chin. A simple wooden hairpin held up all his hair, and he really projected the air of an immortal spirit.

The mage was murmuring to himself, holding a peach wood sword in his left hand and a piece of talisman paper in his right. Then suddenly, bang, the talisman paper caught fire.

The crowd was even more convinced of his magic.

“Wow! The mage is so powerful, truly a highly skilled Taoist.”

“Indeed, from now on our village will be free from ghosts, this is fantastic.”

The group whispered among themselves.

At some point, a table had been set up in the courtyard, on which stood several incense burners filled with candles and incense sticks. The curling smoke filled the entire courtyard with a hazy mist.

The atmosphere only added to the eerie respect the crowd held for the mage.

“Ah…! Evil creature, where do you think you’re fleeing!” the mage suddenly shouted, pointing the peach wood sword directly at Madam Xie…

The crowd jumped, hearts racing to their throats, nervously watching the scene unfold.

Unprepared, Madam Xie was stunned to see the mage holding the sword and charging at her with fierce momentum. She just froze, not knowing how to dodge, simply watching in horror as the mage drew closer and closer.

The peach wood sword was about to strike Madam Xie’s face.

Some of the villagers couldn’t bear to watch and turned away their eyes, not daring to look.

But at the last possible moment…

“Puff!”

A small piece of wood came flying through the air, knocking the peach wood sword off course.

“Ouch!”

The mage, having launched himself too fiercely, stumbled forward several steps. He barely managed to plant the peach wood sword into the ground, steadying himself and preventing a fall. Swiveling his head, he looked around, furious, trying to find the person who had disrupted his performance.

Upon seeing this, the crowd turned their heads and realized that Xuexue was back.

She was seen pushing through the crowd, stepping forward.

Her home, which had been perfectly fine earlier in the morning, was now overwhelmed by these people, leaving Xuexue very angry.

“Who are you to trespass into a private residence in broad daylight, attempting to murder my mother? Do you think there is no law in this land?” Xuexue walked into the courtyard with her head held high, immediately glaring at the mage and rebuking him fiercely.
