Chapter 190: Formation masters

Chapter 190: Formation masters

Iron Knight smiled.

And it was a weird thing to find a smile on a face as dark and gloomy as his. "Do you think we don’t have precautions in place for this kind of scenario? Well, think again!"

Then Iron Knight leaned back and watched the man in the alley, not doing anything but simply keeping the man in place with his eyes alone.

The same was with the golden ship that hovered in the air, boxed in by a triangular shield.

Nothing moved for a moment.

But then a painful wail split the air, filled with anguish and pain. And it was cut short just as suddenly as it began, making a chill run down the body of all that heard it.

The intruder covered in shadows froze, his eyes widened as he looked at Iron Knight. "What... what did you do!"

Iron Knight was still smiling. "Oh? Do you think you are the first people that tried to sneak into the Great Dungeon? Of course not! And I don’t need to waste all my energy guarding it when I can just put a construct given by His Majesty there."

The intruder grimaced, the shadows on his face crawling rapidly to reveal a face that was pale. "Fuck you, Gold Accord!"

Then he dissolved into shadows, sinking into the cracks of the ground, but Iron Knight wasn’t standing still anymore. He had already exploded into motion, the space around him turning as hard as iron.

His hand slashed downward at the shadows, a rippling shockwave of invisible sword followed closely. The force of it shattered the stone and bit into what remained of the disappearing shadow, forcing a grunt of echoing pain.

Now it was Iron Knight’s turn to grimace, his face sour. "So this is why he was so sure of facing me. He was indeed a rat."

The next instant a portal opened up beneath him and he disappeared, appearing a moment later in front of the entrance to the Great Dungeon.

Most of the entrance was covered by a tide of shadows that resembled a shroud and in front of it was standing a construct. The construct resembled a twisted mass of flesh that was molded into the shape of a man.

Iron Knight wasn’t looking at the construct but instead at the ground that was covered in blood and the pieces of flesh that littered the ground.

The construct had eaten the intruders.

"Well..." Iron Knight stared at the construct wearily, then he disappeared again as his portal swallowed him whole. He appeared atop the ship, the remaining intruders long gone.

"How many does this make now? They just keep coming." He stood there with his hands clasped behind his back. "I think it’s time they challenge the Great Dungeon."

At the end of the day, Vacuse didn’t get the time to cross swords with Whispered Blade and Cheir because some intruders attacked the Gold Accord Commander.

Instead, he handed his new two Soulbearers to Kagerou for him to explain the basics of how things happen. And then he threw himself into knowing his new slav... formation master.

The Morrowling’s name was Moonblame and he was actually a he. He told Vacuse that he had been learning formation since he was a kid. Apparently, it was something that his kind knew how to do best.

And since Vacuse didn’t really know much about formations, he asked Moonblame to teach him a little of it. And that was when Vacuse realized that he might have talents for a lot of things but maybe not in formation making.

No wonder there were not a lot of formation masters!

Formation was about two things. Laws and calculations.

Long, tedious calculations.

Etching or forging formations was about forcing the laws and the Force of the world into doing certain things. Of course, it was not that simple as nobody could force or bend the laws that governed the world. Well, powerful Soulbearers could.

But what Moonblame said was that the runes were used to create imitations of the laws and then used to create the desired effect.

And the calculations came in when one wanted to determine the how and when of formation. That was simply what Vacuse could get from all the things that Moonblame said.

Apparently, there were also different types of formation masters.

There were those that focused on making artifacts, even though the artifacts they made could not be compared to those taken from the Dungeons.

Also, there were formation masters that dealt with putting formations on buildings to create several effects.

Also, formation masters that dealt in War Artifacts.

In fact, there was almost a formation master for every part of formation making.

It made Vacuse’s head swell.

But one most important thing about formation was the material. The types of material used would determine the type of formation and how strong or weak it would be.

Fortunately for Vacuse, Moonblame wasn’t joking when he said he was a formation master and knew all about his work. But the one thing that made Vacuse happiest was the fact that Moonblame also knew about quality materials and which ones were not.

After everything, Vacuse told Moonblame what he wanted and expected from him.

"I want you to be my exclusive formation master. Not to the Vorrakyn family but to me personally."

That was what Vacuse told him, and Moonblame’s answer came fast enough. He bowed to Vacuse. "Of course, I already recognized you as my master after all! The only thing that remains is that you should create a workshop for me. And I’ll need some workers. They really don’t have to be skilled in anything!"

At least one thing Vacuse was happy for with all the Burnis City business was the fact that he now had a formation master of his own. No matter what, he had already gained a lot.

No matter what happened in the Great Dungeon, Vacuse only had to protect his gain till the end.

And just like that, a few more days passed. Vacuse spent it meditating and having enlightened words with Rith.

But then, Iron Knight summoned them.
