Chapter 3 The Sudden Appearance of the Portable Space

Having already felt miserable, Su Muqing’s expression became even more complex and grim after she thoroughly organized the thoughts in her mind!

It was one thing to transmigrate into an orphaned girl! At least she met a pair of good adoptive parents. Then she encountered a once-in-a-century famine, and her adoptive mother died. After that, she was almost buried alive!

This… how did it feel like all the tragedies had befallen her? Who else? Who else could be more miserable than her?

Damn it! Only television dramas dared to depict such things, right? Could it be that she had committed some grave sin and was a celestial being sent down to earth to undergo tribulation?

Su Muqing cursed wildly in her heart. Her gloomy mood did not find any relief; instead, her stomach let out a long string of grumbling sounds…

The numbness in her body disappearing was not a good thing either. Now her five senses were gradually becoming clearer. The feeling of thirst and hunger also became more pronounced…

She had just escaped the fate of being buried alive and suffocated in the previous second. In the next second, she had the possibility of dying of thirst and hunger!

Su Muqing felt like she had fallen into a survival game. The challenges were one after another!

Even if she transmigrated into an ordinary farming novel scenario, when she was starving, she could just nibble on some wild grass by the roadside or drink more water to fill her stomach.

But she had to transmigrate into an era of drought! Everywhere she looked, there was not a hint of color. It was all gray-brown dust.

The ground was cracked open with numerous fissures. Dead branches were scattered around. The entire scene looked like shattered porcelain pieces reassembled, desolate and eerie!

The unfamiliar environment and the unknown stimulation instead ignited Su Muqing’s strong desire for survival.

“I’m so hungry!” she wailed powerlessly, tilting her head up. The corners of her already cracked lips bled a little more.

Feeling the sting at the corner of her mouth, Su Muqing stuck out her tongue to lick it. Her mouth was immediately filled with the taste of blood, which made her feel nauseous and about to retch, given her hunger.

After a series of “Pah, pah, pah…” sounds, she casually raised her hand to wipe the corner of her mouth.

As she did, a sharp sting came from her wrist. Su Muqing felt her heart lurch violently. Her entire body felt as if it had been struck by an electric current, and she shivered a few times.

She raised her left hand. On her slender wrist, there was a shallow red mark the size of a copper coin. Was this the birthmark of the original owner? But this pattern… why did it look a little familiar?

She saw the bloodstains on the birthmark, which she had just wiped from her mouth, slowly disappearing. The color of the birthmark seemed to have deepened a little. Su Muqing then saw clearly. Wasn’t this the birthday gift her parents had prepared for her? That jade pendant!

How the pendant had become a birthmark thoroughly piqued Su Muqing’s curiosity. Upon discovering that the birthmark could absorb blood, she acted as if she were possessed and opened her mouth wide again. The few cracked cuts on her lips immediately exuded beads of blood.

Su Muqing covered her mouth with the birthmark again. The moment she covered it, she could faintly sense something flowing into her left wrist. At the same time, she felt herself getting increasingly thirsty.

She thought in her heart, if only there were something to eat…

Unexpectedly, as soon as she finished thinking! A wrapped ham bread appeared in her hand, with a box of fresh milk placed on top.

Su Muqing looked at the items in her hand and licked her dry lips. This must be a hallucination caused by dehydration, right?

“If I had known I would starve to death today, I should have eaten you all when my aunt gave them to me!”

This bread and milk were the breakfast her aunt had given her that morning. She had no appetite then and had put them in her suitcase! If this wasn't a hallucination, how could these things have appeared here?

Su Muqing thought that fate probably felt she had suffered too much, so it was letting her have a full meal in an illusion!

Her mind clouded by hunger, she eagerly tore open the bread bag and wolfed it down. She swallowed without chewing properly. In just a few bites, she had stuffed the entire bread into her mouth.

Su Muqing had never eaten like this before. The foreign body sensation in her throat made her feel as if her neck was being choked. She opened the milk and drank more than half the box in one go before she felt the blockage in her throat being flushed down into her stomach.

Completely focused on eating, Su Muqing didn’t notice that the bloodstains she had on her wrist just now had disappeared completely. However, now that she was full and had drunk her fill, her mind wasn’t on that.

Su Muqing smacked her lips. A satisfied smile appeared on her face. Heh heh! This illusion was quite realistic. Not only was she almost choked, but she could actually taste it. The most crucial part was that it seemed to truly fill her stomach!

“No!” Su Muqing’s eyes snapped open. She picked up the milk carton in her hand. This wasn’t a hallucination!

Just then, a dizzying sensation that made the world spin attacked her. Su Muqing felt like a spinning top, constantly being whipped and spun.

“Congratulations, Host, on activating the Ruyi Space.”

“Who’s speaking?” The sudden mechanical voice made her break out in a cold sweat.

“Hello, Host! I am your space server no. 217.”

As the voice echoed from the void, Su Muqing saw the surrounding environment change. The cracked land disappeared. In front of her was a small patch of shallow green grass. She reached out and touched it; it felt moist and soft, truly green grass, not some plastic material!

She subtly reached out and pinched her thigh hard. “Hiss~ Ouch! That hurts like hell!” She had confirmed it wasn’t a dream!

A large pink box not far away caught Su Muqing’s attention. This was her suitcase!

A black luggage bag was hanging from the handle of the suitcase. It contained her toiletries and cosmetics. She had casually stuffed the bread and milk into it at the time.

Su Muqing quickly walked to the side of the suitcase, took off the bag and placed it aside, then opened the suitcase. As expected! The suitcase was packed full of her spare clothes and items.

The university she attended was in G Province. There were only spring and summer there. Because the UV radiation was extremely strong throughout the year, her clothes were basically long-sleeved and long-legged, made of chiffon or ultra-thin cotton and linen fabrics. They were not only light, breathable, but also sun-proof!

Even with only half a suitcase of clothes, including everything inside and out, there were at least a dozen sets.

The other side of the suitcase held several pairs of shoes. The remaining space was filled with dry and wet wipes and sanitary napkins.

Su Muqing closed the suitcase. As she stood up, she saw a hazy area in front of her and wanted to go forward and take a look. However, she bumped her head against an invisible barrier. But it didn’t hurt at all; it felt like jelly, bouncy and smooth.

Just as she was about to ask the system what was going on, a screen appeared directly above her head. The words “System Compensation” were scrolling on the screen. Below it were several rows of glittering small boxes.

Su Muqing didn't know where the server was, so she could only look up and shout towards the sky, “Hey… where are you? What is this?”

“Warning! Host, please be mindful of your volume. Excessive noise can cause magnetic field disturbances, leading to side effects such as dizziness and vomiting for the Host.”

“Then what should I do when I need to find you?” Hearing the artificial intelligence’s warning, Su Muqing felt a bit strange. She couldn’t be blamed for being overly surprised. This was her first time encountering talking air…

“When the Host has a need, simply state your question at a normal volume. If the Host is outside the space, you can also communicate with 217 via consciousness connection!”

“Oh, oh! Got it. I’ll be quieter from now on… 217, what does this writing here mean?”

“Answering Host. Due to an error in the main system update previously, the Ruyi Space was repeatedly activated, causing temporal distortions and inconvenience to you. The treasure chests are compensation from the main system for this accident. Does the Host wish to accept?”
