Chapter 436 A Fight to the Death

The two were having a great time when someone barged in.

Chen Feng finally realized he’d been too excited and forgotten to lock the door.

They were both startled and wished they could disappear into the ground.

Two powerful figures in the political arena, just like that, in the office…

In the office… and to be caught red-handed.

There was nothing more mortifying than this!

However, being seasoned veterans of the political arena, they quickly regained their composure.

Cui Yali took a brief look at the intruder, and a heavy stone in her heart was lifted.

Thank goodness, it was Secretary Sun, of all people.

Under Secretary Sun’s watchful eyes, they both put on their clothes.

“Lock the door, Secretary Sun.”

Cui Yali called out nonchalantly.

“Director Cui, I didn’t mean to enter without knocking. It’s just that the matter was so urgent, I panicked and forgot about knocking,”

Secretary Sun explained, her face pale with fear, as she relocked the door.

“None of that matters now. Quickly, take off your clothes,”

Cui Yali cut to the chase.

“Director Cui, what is this?”

Secretary Sun was stunned.

“You saw something you shouldn’t have. Do you think we can just pretend nothing happened?”

Cui Yali stared at Secretary Sun with a cold, murderous gaze.

“Director Cui, I swear, I won’t say a word.”

Secretary Sun dropped to her knees with a thud.

“In this day and age, only the dead can keep secrets,”

Cui Yali continued with her icy stare.

“Director Cui, please don’t kill me. I’m not married, I don’t have a boyfriend, I haven’t…”

Secretary Sun burst into tears.

Chen Feng, standing nearby, felt a pang of sympathy.

But he held back, not daring to intervene.

This was indeed a grave situation.

If handled improperly, his and Cui Yali’s political careers would be over.

So much in politics was beyond one’s control!

“Secretary Sun, this isn’t your first day in politics. You know how ruthless it is. Politics doesn’t believe in tears,”

Cui Yali glared at Secretary Sun.

“Director Cui, as long as you don’t kill me, everything can be sorted out.”

Secretary Sun repeatedly kowtowed.

Few people could remain calm and composed in the face of death.

“I can spare your life. After all, killing people indiscriminately isn’t my style. That’s why I’m asking you to undress. Only if you and Chen Feng… then you’ll keep the secret. Not only that… we’ll take pictures. Only then will you keep this secret forever,”

Cui Yali said with utmost seriousness.

“Director Cui, but, I’m still a maiden…”

Secretary Sun cried.

“Fine, then. I won’t force you and Chen Feng… and I won’t kill you, but you’ll go to prison for life,”

Cui Yali continued with a grave expression.

“What? Go to prison for life?”

Secretary Sun trembled all over.

“What else? Didn’t I say earlier? Politics isn’t child’s play. Politics is bloody. You saw something you shouldn’t have, and there will be serious consequences. I’m being quite humane by giving you a choice. Other political figures would have you as a corpse by now,”

Cui Yali said with a frown.

“Director Cui, I understand. I’ve made up my mind. I’m willing to… with Chen Feng…”

Secretary Sun looked at Chen Feng. He was a handsome young man. Although she didn’t know him well, he was infinitely better than serving an older man in politics.

So, before Cui Yali could give any further instructions, Secretary Sun voluntarily took off her clothes.

Although Chen Feng felt somewhat uncomfortable, he did as Cui Yali wished.

Such was politics; it allowed no room for misplaced kindness.

If they had shown mercy and let Secretary Sun off the hook this time, she could have blackmailed them later with what happened in the office, leaving them no recourse.

In the political arena, it was impossible to be a completely good person.

An hour later, everything was concluded, and Secretary Sun quickly put on her clothes.

“Now, tell me, what was the urgent matter that brought you barging in so carelessly?”

Cui Yali asked Secretary Sun as she saved the extraordinary video.

“Someone was fighting in the archives, but it’s probably been resolved by now,”

Secretary Sun said softly.

“That’s all?”

Cui Yali felt dizzy.

Secretary Sun deserved this ordeal. If she had been calmer and either called the police or her second-in-command when colleagues were fighting in the archives, Chen Feng and she would not have been in this situation.

To be fair, in politics, haste and panic would eventually lead to ruin.

“Director Cui, how about this? You take care of things here for a while. As for the archives, I’ll go take a look,”

Chen Feng said calmly.

Cui Yali had no objections.

Chen Feng was a seasoned veteran of politics, and dealing with a fight was a piece of cake for him.

Thus, Secretary Sun led Chen Feng to the archives.

Just as Secretary Sun had expected, the incident was already over, and the two combatants had been sent to the hospital.

They heard that one of them had a severe head injury, and the other had a broken arm and was sent to the hospital by ambulance.

Chen Feng’s senses immediately sharpened.

Under normal circumstances, colleagues wouldn’t fight so severely.

There had to be something fishy going on.

“Secretary Sun, you go back to your work. I’ll handle this matter,”

Chen Feng said subtly.

“Mr. Chen, the situation has calmed down. Is there anything else that needs to be handled?”

Secretary Sun asked instinctively.

“Secretary Sun, you haven’t been in politics for long, have you?”

Chen Feng asked abruptly.

“Yes, Mr. Chen. I’ve been a secretary in the provincial personnel department for less than a year. What’s wrong, Mr. Chen?”

Secretary Sun asked, confused.

“Let me teach you a rule of politics: from now on, don’t ask anything you shouldn’t ask,”

Chen Feng said sternly.

Secretary Sun was not foolish. Chen Feng’s hint was so obvious that she understood immediately.

This fight in the provincial personnel department’s archives was a deep water issue, and as a mere secretary, she had no right to meddle in such matters.

“Thank you, Mr. Chen. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going,”

With that, Secretary Sun left, still shaken.

Chen Feng didn’t dally and went straight to the hospital.

The person with the head injury was still unconscious, so Chen Feng went to find the one with the broken arm.

“Tell me, what exactly happened?”

Chen Feng got straight to the point.

“It was just a verbal dispute between colleagues, a bit of a fight. Men, you know, have some violent tendencies,”

The man with the broken arm tried to cover it up.

“A colleague’s dispute? A dispute that leads to one person being comatose and the other having a broken arm? If you don’t tell me the truth, I’ll call the police,”

Chen Feng threatened.

Civil servants in politics feared nothing, except for a record in their files.

Once the police were involved, it meant a stain on their records.

With a stain on their record, their political careers would be over.

“Mr. Chen, please don’t call the police. I’ll tell you everything, but it’s a major issue, and I hope you won’t mention it to Director Cui,”

The man with the broken arm said fearfully.

“I promise,”

Chen Feng replied calmly.

“It’s like this, that colleague and I, at the provincial personnel department, each support different powerful figures. I support Director Cui, and that unconscious colleague supports the deputy director…”

The man with the broken arm explained word by word.

“Political alignments are normal. But what does fighting to the death have to do with your alignments?”

Chen Feng asked, bewildered.
