Chapter 188 Arrow Formation

The girls teamed up and dispersed, chatting amongst themselves.

Gu Fei sighed. Even at a time like this, the girls were so calm as to team up and chat idly, truly demonstrating the air of experts! In contrast, the two real experts were currently jumping into a ditch, creeping forward furtively. They hadn't even found their opponents yet, and they were already covered in dirt.

"Does it really have to be like this?" Xi Yao Wu asked, distressed.

Gu Fei nodded. "Seven hundred and three people, you know? If we don't hide ourselves first, how will we get a chance to strike?" Gu Fei was very calm, sizing up the situation. He didn't charge in arrogantly, waving his weapon like he usually did on bounty missions.

As they advanced, he also inquired about news from Yu Tian Shen Ming. "How is it? What's your tactic?"

"Arrow formation," Yu Tian Shen Ming replied.

"What?" Gu Fei heard a new term again.

"You'll know when you engage," Yu Tian Shen Ming said flatly.

"Arrow formation… what kind of gimmick is that?" Gu Fei asked Xi Yao Wu.

Xi Yao Wu shook her head blankly as well.

Naturally, the ditch couldn't run perfectly straight from one end of the map to the other, but the two didn't care where it led. They simply used it as cover, advancing in a zigzag pattern while occasionally poking their heads out to see if there were any isolated opponents nearby.

As a result, after searching their surroundings without finding anything, they discovered two fellows in front of them in the ditch who were also advancing while peeking their heads out, just like them.

"Hey, you really are my lucky star! I'll take care of these two!" Xi Yao Wu exclaimed happily, already dashing forward.

This was also what distinguished Xi Yao Wu, the Thief, from other Thieves. When most Thieves discovered enemies, their first thought was to sneak up behind them in stealth and ambush them. After all, Thieves had very little health, and direct head-on confrontation was quite risky. But because Xi Yao Wu had good equipment, high defense and attack, and extremely advantageous speed, she was brave enough to face any enemy head-on.

When Gu Fei saw that she had already pounced, he immediately cried out inwardly that it was over.

Xi Yao Wu's speed was too fast; he probably wouldn't be able to snatch these two prey.

Sure enough, Xi Yao Wu sprinted out at full speed, and Gu Fei was immediately left behind. Of course, the two also saw Gu Fei and Xi Yao Wu when they were discovered. Seeing the two rushing towards them, they immediately prepared for battle.

These two were Thieves, and Thieves with very conventional thinking. So when they saw their opponents preparing to fight, they both activated Stealth.

"Oh dear, they disappeared." Xi Yao Wu sighed as she slowed her pace.

Gu Fei was rushing over here, and for a moment, he couldn't detect where the two stealthed Thieves were. The two of them were clearly focusing all their attention on Xi Yao Wu, not even glancing at Gu Fei, which meant that Gu Fei's aura sensing couldn't work.

This situation was undoubtedly somewhat dangerous, but Xi Yao Wu didn't care at all, shouting into the air, "Did you run away? Come out quickly."

As soon as she finished speaking, one of them appeared behind Xi Yao Wu, swinging a club and knocking Xi Yao Wu unconscious with a single blow.

Gu Fei was overjoyed and quickly shouted, "Don't wake her up yet."

At this moment, one of the two Thieves was in Stealth and the other was visible, both behind Xi Yao Wu, wanting to use the Thief's highest damage skill, Backstab, to finish off Xi Yao Wu in one go. Hearing Gu Fei's shout, they both paused subconsciously.

But of course, they had no reason to listen to the enemy's instructions. Without thinking, they immediately attacked, each stabbing Xi Yao Wu in the back with a Backstab.

"Alas…" Gu Fei sighed, "I told you not to wake her up!"

Xi Yao Wu, who had been stabbed, turned around and stabbed one of them, instantly killing him. The other one was in a daze.

The damage from two Backstabs actually failed to kill the female Thief in front of them. Her defense was truly terrifyingly high! The Thief was in such a daze that Xi Yao Wu mercilessly sent him off the field with a single slash.

Gu Fei didn't get a single one of the two opponents and walked over dejectedly.

Xi Yao Wu, looking pleased with herself, took out a piece of bread and gnawed on it. "I'll leave after I recover my health," she said.

Gu Fei nodded helplessly. In his heart, he was calculating that if things continued like this, he probably wouldn't get a single isolated opponent!

Xi Yao Wu sat on the ground eating bread, while Gu Fei poked his head out to keep watch. On the vast map, dust could be seen rising faintly in the distance, and it seemed that a large force was heading in this direction.

"Hey!" Gu Fei nudged Xi Yao Wu, who was beside him, with his foot. "Looks like a lot of people are coming this way."

"Really?" Xi Yao Wu's health had almost recovered, and she got up and also leaned against the edge of the ditch to look out.

Rolling dust rushed towards them, and it seemed that quite a few people were coming.

"Judging by this formation, there must be at least 200 people," Xi Yao Wu said.

"Exaggerated. I think at most 100 people," Gu Fei said.

"Wanna bet!" Xi Yao Wu said.

"What do we bet?"

"1000 gold coins," Xi Yao Wu said.

"…" Gu Fei didn't make a sound; money was his sore spot.

Xi Yao Wu didn't dwell on this issue, but continued, "It really looks like they're coming this way. You hide in the ditch and throw a spell. You'll even save me the trouble of covering you."

"You're right," Gu Fei nodded. He wasn't very excited about this; wasn't it just another large-scale instant kill? Gu Fei had little interest in this kind of tactic.

The two of them lay against the edge of the ditch, watching as the other party gradually approached, and their figures became vaguely discernible. The speed at which this team was advancing also surprised Gu Fei and Xi Yao Wu. Generally speaking, when a team moved, they wouldn't run too fast in order to accommodate the slow-moving classes such as Warriors and Priests. But the speed of this team's advance didn't seem to have any of this camaraderie; it seemed to be a speed-type team.

When they got closer, the two could clearly see that this team was entirely composed of Archers.

Gu Fei recalled the arrow formation that Yu Tian Shen Ming had mentioned. Could it be this group of Archers in front of him?

Just as he was thinking, Xi Yao Wu nudged him from the side. "They're getting close. Get ready!"

Gu Fei had just nodded when he heard a whistling sound. "Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh," countless arrows were heading straight for them. The two nimbly ducked their heads, and looking up, they saw an enormous number of arrows fly over their heads and stick into the earthen wall of the ditch opposite them.

"Their eyesight is really good!" the two exclaimed. They only knew that the two of them had only poked their heads out of the ditch, but they had been discovered so easily.

In the Zongheng Sihai formation, Daoying Nianhua pointed forward and shouted, "Fire!"

More than a hundred archers drew their bows, and as they released their strings, arrows flew out like a blanket covering the sky. The sounds of the arrows piercing the air converged together, no longer sounding like arrows, but rather like the sound of wind. But the arrows didn't fly straight out; instead, they pointed diagonally towards the sky. The arrows drew an arc and finally flew accurately into the ditch.

In the game, the range of bows and arrows was not determined by the player's arm strength, but by accurate data described by equipment and skills. Therefore, as long as you experimented more, it was not difficult to shoot out this kind of fancy shot. Moreover, once you figured it out, it would always be extremely accurate, because the range was fixed.

At this moment, arrows fell into the ditch like locusts, and Gu Fei and Xi Yao Wu scrambled to escape with their heads in their hands. Although it was just a simple, ordinary attack, with such a grand spectacle, they would be killed if they were hit by several arrows at the same time.

"I'll cover you, cast a spell and bomb them!" Xi Yao Wu shouted wildly. As she spoke, she was about to jump out of the ditch, but Gu Fei grabbed her. "Are you kidding me? There are too many Archers."

"Then what do we do?"

"Change direction." Gu Fei answered while dragging Xi Yao Wu forward in the ditch, brandishing his sword, knocking down the arrows falling on top of his head one by one. With this kind of shooting method, the arrows fell in free fall, so the speed wasn't very fast.

The ditch seemed to have helped the two a great deal. After a turn in front, it happened to go around to the flank of the archers' formation. The group was still firing fiercely forward, and Gu Fei breathed a sigh of relief and said, "This is it."

The two nodded heavily and suddenly jumped out of the ditch. But magic attacks had a long range, and Gu Fei had to get closer if he wanted to cast a spell. The two flew forward, but they had already been noticed by the Zongheng Sihai archers.

Daoying Nianhua wasn't flustered, and he smiled and waved his hand and pointed, "B-type change."

The archers in the formation seemed to change positions in a chaotic manner, but in an instant, everyone's arrows were aimed at Gu Fei and Xi Yao Wu, who were rushing over from the flank.

The two were stunned, and then they heard Daoying Nianhua shout, "Fire!"

More than 100 arrows flashed out again like locusts. This time, it wasn't a parabola, but a direct shot at the two of them. Moreover, the target of the more than 100 people's shots wasn't a single point, but a plane. This meant that the two had no room to dodge. Whether they went left or right, they would be hit by the arrows.

"Dodge quickly!" The two could only hope to fly back to the ditch before the arrows arrived.

Although the distance to the ditch was only a few steps away, how could a person be faster than an arrow? Perhaps Xi Yao Wu could barely rush into the ditch, but Gu Fei would be a step slower no matter what.

Just as he was about to cry without tears, he didn't expect that Xi Yao Wu wouldn't rely on her speed to rush out first, but instead went behind Gu Fei and pushed him hard. As a result, Gu Fei's speed was a little faster, and Xi Yao Wu blocked the arrows that might have hit him behind him.

The moment the two fell into the ditch, more than a hundred arrows flew over their heads again, like a gust of wind blowing through.

Xi Yao Wu had several arrows stuck in her back, but she still wasn't dead, and was panting as she reached for bread again!

"We can't get through!" Xi Yao Wu sighed as she gnawed on the bread.

"Yeah!" Gu Fei sighed, "With this kind of arrow formation, no matter how fast you are, it's useless, unless you can teleport."

"Teleport?" Xi Yao Wu was stunned. "Are you level 40?"

Gu Fei nodded.

"Did you advance to the Lightning element?"

Gu Fei nodded again.

So Xi Yao Wu touched her pocket. "Then you can use this, right?"

Gu Fei took it and looked: Eternal Skill Scroll, Instantaneous Movement.
