Chapter 306. I met her

Chapter 306: Chapter 306. I met her

"Everyone, this is the least I can do. I can’t help anyone anymore after this, and the rest will be up to you, as I’ll also be at risk of dying if I try to exert myself further."

Followed by the feminine voice that spoke, several rays of golden beams spread through the environs.

Kailen felt the golden light seep through him. The moment that happened, he felt invigorated. All his wounds healed at an astonishing pace. Even the one that could not heal previously, as a result of the glass shards, healed completely. The only thing left was for him to recover his spiritual power and universe energy reserves.

"Those with the healing affinity will always be treasured assets on the battlefield," he couldn’t help but muse to himself at the miraculous occurrence.

A few seconds ago, he had been completely worried about whether or not he’d live long enough to survive the 24-hour time limit, but thanks to the charitable healer who had volunteered to heal them to increase their chances of survival, he didn’t have to worry about that. He just had to meditate, and hopefully, if nothing bad happened, he’d survive.

Just then, he heard several voices away from the rock where he was hiding:

"We’ve managed to slay them all."

"Thank goodness, at least we can rest for a while and recover our universe energy."

"Everyone, stay strong, we will survive this."

Kailen heaved a huge sigh of relief as he heard these words. It seemed they had managed to kill the dwarves they were fighting against, though it was inevitable that different ones would come for them. But at least, they could take a short break and recuperate before the next wave of enemies discovered them.

Kailen reasoned that it wasn’t as if they didn’t entertain the idea of running away from where they were, but there was no point in doing so. Every part of the city was caught in battles of different magnitudes. Also, what was the possibility that if they left their current location they wouldn’t encounter stronger and more terrifying enemies?

It was not worth the risk. The safest and wisest thing to do was to recuperate here and try to survive as much as they could till the 24-hour period was up.

Kailen heard several footsteps approaching his direction. A shadow loomed over him for a few seconds before he saw a female elf and a machinery lifeform that seemed like a male standing before him.

Kailen was puzzled. What did these guys want?

However, before he could take the initiative to speak to them, the female elf asked,

"I’m really curious about how you managed to escape from the outer city—and through a teleportation gate at that, one area heavily guarded by dwarf soldiers. You are not simple."

Kailen’s brows furrowed in realization. This was the female that berated him the moment he appeared in this place to fight or die, and that his concealment would not work. But why had these two strangers come looking for him?

"Don’t disturb the kid. What are the chances he met her there?" the male machinery lifeform said to the female elf, his mechanical voice containing hints of familiarity toward her, a clear giveaway that they were both acquainted.

The female elf revealed a slight trace of pain on her face at the words of her counterpart. But it disappeared from her face as quickly as it had appeared.

’It seems she came to ask if I probably encountered someone she knows in the outer city. From her sad expression, it could be someone she loves.’

The female elf hesitated, as if she wanted to ask Kailen something, but she was also scared she wouldn’t get a good response at the same time. She, however, managed to gather the courage to bear the response and spoke.

"Did you ever come across any female elf? I know the chances of meeting her in such a large city are low, but she’s my younger sister and I’m worried about her, so I can’t help but ask. She’s a crippled awakener after all and has no way of defending herself." She added, "Here’s her picture."

She didn’t even allow Kailen to reply before almost shoving a picture into his face.

Kailen’s eyes flickered slightly, and he sighed. The agonized and pained image of a female elf murdered after being sexually harassed by a dwarf overlapped with the contrastingly cheerful expression of the elf in the picture.

’What are the odds, huh?’ Kailen mused inwardly.

The female elf he had no other choice but to allow the dwarf soldier to sexually harass and kill—because trying to interfere would have ended up getting him killed—and the lady being harassed was the only reason why the dwarf had not focused on entering where he was hiding at the time to discover and kill him... was this elf lady’s sister?

What was he supposed to say? I watched her raped and killed while I did nothing? Certainly he’d be killed by the elf if he said that. She was radiating the aura of a rank 2 beginner stage Ascendant-level lifeform after all.

Well, he could simply say he had no idea who the person was, but he felt that would be too cruel, considering that her dead sister’s tragic end had probably saved his life. He did not consider himself a good person, but there were some things that seemed too cruel even for him.

So he considered saying something that would make the elf feel at peace, even knowing that her sister was dead.

Kailen stared at the picture for a while and turned to look at the female elf staring at him, probably having figured out from his expression that he had encountered her. Besides, if he had not encountered her, he would have simply said no. But this expression meant something else entirely.

The machinery lifeform male was even surprised at the sickly-looking fellow’s bizarre behavior.

Kailen finally put an end to the duo’s speculation.

"I met her. She died saving my life."
