Chapter 329: Chapter 329. You get to say your last prayers.
Zarek and Vesper clashed repeatedly, each strike a testament that Zarek was being slowly overpowered.
He felt that something was wrong.
Something was not right.
His attacks, they were growing considerably weaker, and his opponent, somehow stronger with each strike, each block, each clash.
His opponent’s movements grew sharper.
He had to retreat; it left a bitter taste in his mouth.
But this fight, he was losing.
He would lose.
And losing would mean he would die!
He had a sister to take care of.
Family responsibilities to handle.
Zarek was about manifesting a teleportation scroll to swiftly retreat several meters away.
It would not buy him enough time to escape from the current Vesper, teeming with overwhelming strength.
But at least, it could give him some time to think of something next.
He didn’t think of Darkhaven, or being his ally at this point.
He only thought of one thing—survival.
If he survived, they could figure out how next to handle this fellow.
As for Darkhaven, there was no way he could do something about the current situation.
If he could, he would have.
Suddenly...
The duo could perceive it.
The shadow creatures in the vicinity, they all disappeared, leaving only Vesper and Zarek alone.
The allies of Vesper stared at Zarek with sickening rage.
Finally, they would not be obstructed anymore when they attacked him.
Vesper chuckled at Zarek’s demise.
"It seems Darkhaven decided to bail on you."
Before Vesper’s allies could surround Zarek—feeling betrayed by Darkhaven—or Vesper could sink the hook of his fishing rod into the skin of the now overwhelmed opponent, something incredulous happened.
It was as if time had stopped for a single moment.
Until, something changed.
Whizzz
A whizzing sound, almost faint, barely perceivable, reverberated in the environs.
It was as if nothing had happened.
And yet, the sight before Zarek, and the state of the current Vesper, proved something else entirely.
No one saw anyone or anything move through the environs, except that barely perceivable sound, but the Vimodial contractors Vesper had brought started to swell in size.
Then each one of them started to explode into blood paste.
When one looked closely, one would find small obsidian compressed needles having pierced through their eyes.
After that, black veins would start popping up all over their bodies until they start to swell in size, let out horrifying screams, and explode.
Zarek was completely shocked at the sight before him, and also equally terrified.
Though he was extremely relieved that someone extremely powerful had come to his aid, he was shocked at the same time.
"Wait... why does this look familiar? When Cimeris and Sanguine died, something similar happened, right?"
He opened his eyes wide in realization, also puzzled at the same time.
"Oh..."
As for Vesper, something entirely different was happening to him.
He felt a needle pierce through his eyes.
He didn’t feel extreme pain.
But what happened next left him completely horrified and confused at the same time.
He was growing extremely weak.
He felt every ounce of strength drain from his being.
It was as if his universe energy pathways had been locked, and all his strength was being drained from his body.
He could not channel his blood affinity, nor could he utilize his physical strength.
What the hell was going on?
"I honestly don’t know. But it seems it’s some sort of poison."
His Vimodial replied casually, not in the least bit concerned about Vesper.
If something happened to Vesper, he could just find another contractor, as there were many desperate weaklings hungry to do anything for power like this guy.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!"
Vesper cursed in fear. He was extremely fucked.
For the first time, Vesper felt like nothing had gone according to his plan.
He couldn’t even hover above the ground anymore.
It was as though he had become a weakling completely, a non-awakener—a cripple.
He fell towards the swamp now turned ground, full of craters, extremely weak-looking and pathetic.
There was an expression of fear, uncertainty, and complete trepidation on his face.
Zarek was looking at the whole situation with intrigue, puzzlement, and realization.
Kailen Darkhaven was more terrifying than he had imagined, even more powerful than Zarek himself.
This guy always had another card up his sleeve.
If news got out that this guy had mass murdered more than fifteen Supreme Stage Ascendant-level lifeforms in just a second, it would cause an extreme uproar.
Zarek sighed.
Just when he was wondering what would happen to the now weak Vesper, crawling in the crater in a desperate attempt to survive, Kailen Darkhaven appeared.
Kailen calmly nodded to Zarek, then spoke in a sincere tone.
"I’m very sorry for the late intervention.
I could only think of an alternative at the last moment. Honestly, I didn’t even realize I had a way to deal with him until the last moment when you were in a desperate situation. Turns out my poison methods are not too bad.
However, had I not been able to think of a solution, I would have used my teleport abilities to teleport us back to the academy."
Kailen mixed the truth with a lie.
Obviously, he didn’t tell Zarek that he could have dominated and subdued Vesper with his poison methods from the beginning, and that he only involved Zarek to force Vesper to reveal all of Vesper’s cards and also draw out any galactic-level lifeform threat that was backing Vesper and had followed Vesper here, if there were any.
However, he was being honestly sincere that he would have teleported Zarek back to the academy in case that was the only way to save Zarek.
Zarek felt like Kailen was hiding something, but he didn’t probe further.
Also, he was an Atrexian, an excellent judge of character.
Therefore, he could tell Kailen would have definitely saved him like he just said.
He didn’t dwell on the matter and nodded.
"For a second there, I thought you had bailed."
Kailen sighed.
"Fair point."
He turned to look at Vesper Locke, currently lying and crawling on the ground in fear.
The moment he locked eyes with Kailen, a sense of realization dawned on him, and an expression of fear appeared on his face.
"What did you do to me? So it was you? You are the one who made me a cripple?"
Kailen sighed and shrugged casually as he landed before Vesper.
"Relax, I didn’t make you a cripple. Just some poisoning to destroy your universe energy pathways. Well, technically made you a cripple. But hey, you get a few moments before to say your last prayers, right?"
