Chapter 521: Too Predictable!
Chapter 521
"Always ready." Grey replied and without hesitation, the duo charged towards each other with full speed.
BOOOM!
An explosion occurred that shook the entirety of the place hard. The ground where the duo met was instantly torn apart with force as their fists collided viciously.
The air cackled, rippled, and got distorted from the terrifying impact of the punch, like reality itself was being bent.
Thalos grinned widely, his golden eyes gleaming with twisted excitement, as he immediately swung his sword from down below, cleaving the ground open as if it were paper.
Grey didn’t waste time in taking to the skies with his wind magic, propelling himself upward in a violent burst. From above, he hurled his sword with all his might, unleashing a sharp wind slash that screamed through the air towards the gargoyle.
Hearing the screeching sound of the oncoming strike, the gargoyle immediately lifted his greatsword in front of him, the flat side raised to block the attack.
BANG!
The sound reverberated like thunder as the wind slash connected with Thalos’ weapon. The force was immense, enough to make him skid a few inches backward, grit scattering under his feet. Yet, the smirk never left his face.
Grey didn’t hesitate. He dove back down with full force, looking like a living missile with his sword trailing behind him and his gaze burning into the gargoyle.
Seeing this, Thalos crouched low, the ground beneath him cracking like glass under pressure. Without warning, he exploded into the air, leaving the earth shattered and caving in from his immense strength.
The gargoyle rose fast, his greatsword swinging upwards with merciless precision toward the diving Grey.
The warrior mage’s eyes narrowed. He quickly coated his inner limbs with Ki, strengthening his muscles and bones, before swinging his sword to meet the oncoming blow.
BAM!
The collision thundered through the sky, the shockwave visible as ripples in the air. The violent force hurled Grey out of the air, his body flung backwards like a ragdoll, sent soaring several metres away.
"Damn it." He cursed through clenched teeth, struggling to stabilize himself with his wind magic. His mana surged, forcing the winds beneath him to slow his descent. Though he managed to steady his body mid-air, the force still hurled him down, making him nearly crash-land.
With quick thinking, he angled the wind beneath his feet, turning what should have been a brutal slam into a rough skid. His boots dragged against the ground, sparks flying as he landed. Just as he caught his breath, Thalos’ golden eyes flashed in front of him like a nightmare given flesh.
"Too weak. Too slow." The gargoyle commented coldly, his grin mocking. Without hesitation, his massive fist shot forward, smashing directly into Grey’s abdomen.
BANG!
KUK!
TCHWK!
The impact was devastating. The air was violently expelled from Grey’s lungs, his body folding around the strike. Blood sprayed from his mouth as his frame was hurled away like a broken doll, crashing into the ground with enough force to send shockwaves rolling outward.
"Fuck..." Grey spat, his voice rough as he tumbled and bounced violently across the battlefield.
Gritting his teeth, he stabbed his sword into the earth, dragging himself to a brutal halt. The blade screeched against the cracked surface before locking him in place. He coughed heavily, specks of blood staining the ground in front of him.
’Fuck me! My insides are burning from that punch. If I hadn’t coated my abdomen with Ki just in time, I’d have a hole in my belly right now.’ He thought grimly, his brows furrowed as he forced himself upright.
Across the dust and ruin, Thalos strolled casually, his sword resting lazily on his shoulder. The wide grin on his stone-like face never faltered, radiating confidence and cruel amusement.
"You’re lucky I’m restricting my strength," Thalos said with a chuckle, his voice rumbling with arrogance. "Otherwise, you’d already be toast."
Grey wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, his eyes blazing with defiance as he rose to his feet once more.
"Huh? What happened to your earlier cockiness? Thought you said you were going to win this little spar or something?" Thalos added, his grin widening with mockery.
"I said that," Grey replied calmly, his grip tightening around his sword. A second later, a shimmering blue light encased the blade before it completely vanished from view.
"And I’m going to do just that." He declared firmly.
BANG!
The ground cracked beneath him as he dashed forward with full force, his Ki flaring violently around his feet. His eyes brimmed with raw determination while his hands glowed with a dense layer of Ki, prepared for the clash.
"I believe in fairness, so let’s do this your way," Thalos said casually. He tossed his massive greatsword aside, and it sank deep into the cracked earth with a heavy thud.
Without a second’s delay, he smashed his fists together. The collision of stone and strength produced a sharp, stony bang that echoed across the ruined battlefield. Then, with a sudden burst, he appeared directly in front of Grey.
His massive fist shot forward, fast and merciless, aiming for the Supreme Magus’ face. Grey’s instincts screamed at him, and his sharp senses kicked in. He tilted his head just enough, narrowly avoiding the crushing blow.
The second fist came for his abdomen, but Grey was already reacting. With a swift kick of wind beneath his feet, he launched himself into the air, narrowly evading the strike. Mid-spin, his leg lashed out in a perfect roundhouse kick, smashing directly into Thalos’ thick neck.
BANG!
The gargoyle skidded a few inches back, surprised, though the grin never left his face. Grey, however, didn’t slow down.
He instantly clapped his hands together with a sharp crack.
"Wind Pulse!" He roared.
BANG!
A burst of compressed air shot from his palms, tearing through the space between them. It slammed into Thalos’ forearms as the gargoyle raised them in defense. The attack connected with a metallic clang, forcing Thalos a step back, though he remained firmly grounded.
As the dust cleared, he lowered his arms—only to find Grey gone.
Swoosh!
The sound cut through the air behind him. A powerful kick swung toward the back of his head with deadly precision.
"Tch! Too noisy." Thalos muttered with a grin. Without even turning fully, he snapped his arm back and caught Grey’s foot midair, halting the strike completely. Slowly, he twisted his neck until his glowing eyes locked onto Grey. His grin stretched wider.
"And you’re too damn predictable!" He roared, his voice booming.
With sheer force, he swung Grey out of the air and slammed him mercilessly into the ground.
BANG!
The ground caved in instantly, chunks of rock blasting outward. Blood sprayed from Grey’s mouth as the brutal impact rattled his bones.
"Ar... are you sure I’m that predictable?" Grey coughed, though a faint chuckle escaped his lips, confusing the gargoyle.
"Huh?" Thalos muttered, his brow furrowing. His instincts screamed a warning, and his eyes widened as his senses flared. He spun around sharply only to see a dagger hovering inches from his eye. The weapon hung in the air, unmoving yet menacing, radiating killing intent.
’The dagger... the one he magically crafted earlier?’ Thalos thought with a jolt of realization, quickly calming his racing heart.
"I think that’s enough sparring for today. I feel sore." Grey muttered with a crooked grin as he pushed himself out of the crater, dusting himself off, his chuckle echoing faintly.
Thalos’ grin faltered slightly, replaced by something sharper—wariness.
’Damn! He’s smart. He uses his head more than his fists. Shit! If he faced an opponent that was all brawn and no brains, they’d be dead before even realizing what happened.’ The gargoyle thought grimly, his respect for Grey growing despite himself.
