Chapter 164: Wanted Poster
Carlotta couldn’t help but say, "Isn’t ’Moon’ famous because of that item? It’s not quite the same."
"What’s different? Your combat strength is also part of the rumors."
"But many people don’t believe it, right?"
"Even if they don’t believe it, it’s still the truth."
Amelia thought that as long as Carlotta was willing, gaining fame would be effortless. Publicly challenging some early tier Resonators and making a big fuss would definitely make her instantly famous across the Northern Continent.
Although, that would also be dangerous. Without someone influential backing her, such fame could be deadly. Others would assume Carlotta definitely held some secret, given how absurdly strong her combat power was, and they might capture her to investigate.
Amelia told Carlotta that in various countries, there were people who became famous for their combat strength, but each had someone backing them. Without backing, yet daring to have combat power beyond normal limits, could only bring unfortunate consequences.
Still, such people weren’t numerous. After all, achieving so-called abnormal combat strength wasn’t something anyone could do. It requires truly astonishing feats, routinely sweeping through opponents of the same rank, or even defeating higher-rank opponents.
Amelia mentioned a few well-known figures from different countries, and Carlotta quietly memorized them, though she didn’t particularly care. After all, Amelia had said she was the strongest, and Carlotta deeply trusted Amelia’s judgment.
The two didn’t linger in that spot, moving on to another area. At their usual place, they bought two Dreamy Blue Sea, one cup together with you-take-a-sip-and-then-I-take-a-sip. After finishing one, they moved to drink the second together.
Soon, another celebrity appeared, Zane Shepherd, a local celebrity from the Farrel Kingdom, hailed as the strongest Listener-rank knight in the kingdom.
The surname "Shepherd" made Carlotta glance at him a few more times.
He was a young man, and his appearance sparked considerable discussion, more than when Melissa showed up. After all, he was from the Farrel Kingdom, so naturally drew more attention here.
And unlike Melissa, who was known as first in card magic, Shepherd was hailed as the number one knight, excelling in all knight paths.
"They said he defeated a peak tier Listener when he was still a middle tier Listener. Now that he’s a peak tier Listener, could he actually fight Resonators?"
"Incredible. This guy is no simple opponent."
"Strange, why is another celebrity appearing in Swan Harbor?"
"Is it hard to guess? Obviously it’s for the Tower of Babel."
Zane Shepherd’s appearance sparked a great deal of buzz.
Carlotta withdrew her gaze and continued walking with Amelia, but not long after, another celebrity appeared.
And this time, the celebrity wasn’t unfamiliar with Carlotta at all.
Zorn Wilson, a powerful Vampire clan member, ranked as a middle tier Resonator. In previous Sky Island competitions, he consistently ranked within the top ten, demonstrating extremely impressive abilities.
Finally, he even secured sixth place, earning alchemical materials of extraordinary value.
He was a celebrity among Resonators. His appearance also stirred much discussion, with many saying that although he was a middle tier Resonator, his strength rivaled peak tier Resonators, truly astonishing.
By the time Carlotta and Amelia had walked a full circle around Swan Harbor, they realized the number of celebrities had already reached more than a dozen. They exchanged glances, stunned.
Clearly, all these celebrities were heading to the Bass Archipelago. However, since the ferry routes hadn’t been restored yet, everyone was stranded here, creating this unusual gathering of famous figures.
"Is the Tower of Babel really that attractive?"
Carlotta quietly asked Amelia.
Whoever saw these celebrities and tried guessing why they’d appeared, immediately mentioned the Tower of Babel.
Amelia replied, "The Tower of Babel has existed for a long time. No one knows why it exists, but it’s undoubtedly extraordinary, an entity as famous as the Sky Island. The Sky Island appears mysteriously and unpredictably, making it hard to catch. But the Tower of Babel’s opening comes with a prelude, so no matter where you are, you can make it in time."
Hearing this, Carlotta couldn’t help but show a surprised expression. "The Sky Island just opened, and now the Tower of Babel appears? What a coincidence."
"It’s only the prelude that’s appeared. The exact opening time still can’t be determined so quickly. In the past, the Tower of Babel once had its prelude appear ten years before actually opening."
Amelia reminded her.
But regardless, heading to the Bass Archipelago is now the right choice. Once the Tower of Babel truly opened, they could enter immediately.
Carlotta remembered she’d previously obtained intelligence about the Tower of Babel. She immediately brought up the information panel, took a glance, and then calmed down.
The intel stated clearly: The Tower of Babel’s opening is still far off.
She felt Amelia might be right, the current prelude phase would last a very long time, and the actual opening was still quite distant. After all, even the intelligence said the opening was still far away, so they really would have to wait quite a few days.
She immediately stopped paying attention to the Tower of Babel matter, pulling Amelia to a corner of Swan Harbor, whispering sweet nothings and nurturing their bond.
During this process, clumsy groping was an unavoidable occurrence. At first, Amelia shyly tried to stop her a bit, but as it happened more often, she eventually couldn’t control Carlotta anymore, only asking her not to be too bold in public, even if they were in a street corner, it was still out in the open.
"Then if we return to the carriage, won’t there be a problem?"
Carlotta was quite good at drawing analogies.
"Behave yourself."
Amelia blushed, giving Carlotta a sideways glance.
She pointed out the carriage was also on the street, and Carlotta shouldn’t do anything too inappropriate.
Upon hearing this, Carlotta immediately got the idea of booking a hotel room, but was stopped by Amelia once again.
Unnoticed, a night quickly passed, and the soft light of dawn fell upon Swan Harbor.
On the Swan Sea, swans emerge one by one, gliding across the water, forming a picturesque scene.
At that moment, Carlotta, who was embracing Amelia and whispering on the roadside, suddenly seemed to notice something and looked toward the distance.
"Why are these three showing up?"
Carlotta frowned.
Hearing her voice, Amelia looked up, just in time to see the three members of the Carlisle family walking down the street.
Although all three wore expressions of displeasure, they had indeed escaped Farrel Kingdom’s entanglement and no longer seemed to be suspected.
The three happened to pass near Carlotta and Amelia, and some of their conversation drifted over.
"I’m so furious! In the end, we had to prove we weren’t there before those brats would believe we had nothing to do with Shepherd’s death."
"Why are there rumors spreading that we were in Bor City at that time? Who’s spreading these lies?"
"The only one who’d have a grudge against us... could it be Carlotta White? Could she be behind this? Yes, she’s probably in Swan Harbor, and since we arrived, she must already know."
The three of them walked away talking, but the lingering sounds of their conversation left Carlotta and Amelia staring at each other in bewilderment.
Had the people from the Farrell Kingdom really confirmed so quickly that the Carlisle family members were innocent? These people actually suppressed their suspicions and instead offered evidence to prove themselves, rather than letting pride breed conflict?
"Pity."
Carlotta sobbed inwardly. But this approach had never been her "attack method" to begin with, failure was failure.
As for being suspected?
That was normal. Before she’d even used her The Concealer, the three from the Carlisle family had already pinpointed her location in the Swanport area through their tracking artifact. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have specifically come here. It was only natural they’d suspect her.
"Never mind them. Our identities are well hidden. As long as we aren’t discovered, there’s no need to pay them any attention."
Amelia quietly took Carlotta’s hand and whispered.
Carlotta nodded. "Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing."
The two turned toward another direction, ignoring the Carlisle trio completely. The three passed right by them without recognizing who they were, so naturally, there was no reason for them to respond.
Swanport bordered the sea everywhere, with azure waves rising and falling, splashing foam into the air and filling the air with the rhythmic roar of the tide.
Gazing at the vast ocean before her, Amelia sighed softly, "The sea is endless, covering most of the world. I wonder if I’ll ever have the chance to see all of it, to manifest the ocean through memory."
Carlotta gave her a strange look. "If you could do something like that, you could call yourself a god. Anyone would collapse under the weight of an entire ocean falling upon them."
Amelia smiled. "I was just having a moment of insight."
She stopped at the shoreline, standing quietly as she absorbed the ebb and flow of the ocean’s energy.
The elemental energies of the world varied, and near the sea, water elements were naturally stronger. Amelia’s memory magic was especially attuned to such elements. Even without formal meditation, she instinctively absorbed the surging elemental currents around her.
In no time at all, as if everything flowed naturally into place, Amelia’s rank suddenly ascended to middle tier Listener.
At that moment, surging magical power surged through her body, bringing her an incredibly comfortable sensation.
"Carlotta, I’ve finally caught up to you."
Amelia turned and smiled at Carlotta.
"You’re a true genius."
Carlotta marveled.
"Please don’t praise me like that."
Amelia quickly shook her head.
Before meeting Carlotta, she might have thought she deserved such a title. But seeing Carlotta now, she felt she still fell a bit short.
Carlotta, however, genuinely believed Amelia was the most talented person she’d ever met. All those so-called celebrities clearly couldn’t compare.
Still, mutual flattery between lovers wasn’t necessary. Carlotta stepped forward and hugged Amelia, and then the two walked back together.
According to their usual schedule, it was about time to go to sleep.
On the way back, a piece of news spread out, causing Carlotta’s expression to instantly darken.
On the side of the street, she saw her wanted poster.
It was the wanted poster for Carlotta White, her image, complete with her signature red twin-tails, clearly displayed. This was her from back when she was still in the Wendell Empire.
The poster listed numerous crimes, painting her as a thoroughly wicked individual.
"Only the charge of assassinating nobles is something I admit to. What do the rest have to do with me? Theft, robbing goods, intentionally harming classmates, randomly killing innocents on the streets?"
Carlotta’s eyes turned cold.
She didn’t need to guess to know who was behind this. The three from the Carlisle family clearly knew she was in Swanport and were deliberately trying to provoke her. She saw right through it.
She had to admit, their provocation tactics were effective. She was indeed irritated.
"Don’t let it affect you. Someone might be watching in secret. Anyone who shows an obvious emotional reaction to the wanted poster might draw attention."
Amelia squeezed Carlotta’s hand gently to remind her.
Carlotta nodded. In truth, aside from her cold gaze, she hadn’t shown any clear emotional disturbance, and even that quickly faded from her eyes.
She stopped looking at the poster and pulled Amelia away.
But then she saw more and more of her wanted posters scattered around. She frowned.
She saw people from the Farrell Kingdom rushing around, posting the notices. What did this mean? Was the entire Farrell Kingdom now getting involved?
With so many wanted posters suddenly appearing, many in Swanport couldn’t help but take notice. Numerous people began discussing the identity of Carlotta White.
Within a short time, Carlotta had garnered nearly the same level of public attention as those famous figures, she’d become a sort of infamous celebrity.
"Stay calm. Let’s go back first."
Amelia quickly pulled Carlotta away.
She knew her partner’s temperament all too well, fierce and reckless. At the slightest provocation, she might just go on a killing spree.
But now that the Farrell Kingdom was involved, Amelia thought it better to be cautious. They couldn’t afford to be careless.
No one knew how many powerful individuals the Farrell Kingdom had stationed in Swanport. Given that the General Soul Reaper had appeared in the Swan Sea, even Weavers might be present. It wasn’t wise to provoke them.
"I know. Don’t worry. I’m not that reckless. I’ll stay low when needed, and remain calm when necessary."
Carlotta appeared remarkably composed.
"That’s good."
Amelia felt somewhat relieved.
The two returned to their carriage.
Amelia still wasn’t completely at ease, so when they lay down to sleep, she tightly hugged Carlotta, preventing her from getting up halfway through the night to go on a rampage.
Carlotta, unaware of Amelia’s thoughts, simply saw her partner hugging her upon lying down and couldn’t help but break into a wide smile.
"Amelia, cuddle me."
Carlotta immediately wrapped her arms around Amelia and began planting kisses all over her face, leaving Amelia somewhat helpless.
"Sleep. Let’s sleep."
"Alright, alright. Let’s sleep together."
Carlotta instantly forgot about the Carlisle family, the Farrell Kingdom, her mind now held only Amelia.
Soundproof Card, Night Card, Anti-Vibration Card, Sleep Card, Cool Air Card, Carlotta activated several cards at once, creating a wonderfully pleasant environment inside the carriage.
Then, she held Amelia tightly and fell into a deep, restful sleep. The quality of her sleep was exceptional.
Falling asleep while breathing in the scent of Amelia’s delicate body, how could her sleep possibly be anything but perfect? Carlotta slept soundly, not waking until ten hours later when she naturally stirred from her slumber.
