Qin Siruan: "The way he treated me is the way he'll treat you when we break up."
Ji Tong: "Thank you for the reminder."
Qin Siruan: "He never said he'd marry you, did he? Don't have such unrealistic dreams. His parents would never..."
"Just because he hasn't said it to you doesn't mean he won't say it to me," Ji Tong interrupted Qin Siruan. "He's mentioned marriage many times. It was me who refused. I'm still young and want to wait another year or two."
This time, it was Qin Siruan's turn to look incredulous. Shen Su had mentioned marriage many times?
How long had they been together?
Stunned, Qin Siruan was speechless for a long time. Ji Tong picked up her coffee, didn't even say "goodbye," and turned to leave.
Qin Siruan watched her retreating back, clenching her fists tightly.
As Ji Tong left the coffee shop, her mind was in a mess. She had spent the entire lunch break thinking about what Qin Siruan had told her.
Her mood disrupted, she was distracted and unfocused during work.
In the afternoon, Feng Feng, who was working with Ji Tong, noticed something was off with her from the start. Ji Tong wasn't her usual energetic self, spoke very little, and was constantly zoning out, something that had never happened before.
After finishing a batch of work, Feng Feng couldn't help but ask, "Ji Tong, are you feeling unwell?"
Ji Tong seemed to realize she was distracted and apologized to Feng Feng, without explaining why.
Feng Feng didn't pry further, only saying, "Then let's call it a day for now. You should rest and adjust."
Ji Tong: "Okay, thank you, Ms. Feng."
Feng Feng: "You're welcome. Then the conference room is yours."
Afterward, Feng Feng returned to her office to continue her work, paying no further attention to Ji Tong in the conference room, nor did she bother to speculate on why Ji Tong was distracted.
It wasn't until the end of the workday, as Feng Feng was preparing to leave, that she ran into Shen Su, who had come to pick up Ji Tong.
However, this time, Shen Su was alone. He seemed to be searching for something in the hallway.
They met face-to-face. Feng Feng nodded in greeting. Shen Su stopped and asked her, "Ms. Feng, have you seen Ji Tong?"
Feng Feng: "Isn't she in the conference room?" She pointed to the conference room where she had been working with Ji Tong earlier.
Shen Su shook his head. "She's not there, and I can't reach her by phone."
Feng Feng: "The last time I saw her was in the conference room."
Shen Su: "Did she seem off today?"
Feng Feng thought for a moment, recalling Ji Tong's distraction in the afternoon. "She seemed a bit down."
Shen Su frowned. "Did someone upset her?"
As he spoke, he looked at Feng Feng, his gaze clearly carrying a hint of accusation, as if she were the one who had upset Ji Tong.
Even the usually composed Feng Feng couldn't help but react. "I don't know. You should ask her directly." With that, she walked around him and left.
Shen Su didn't dwell on Feng Feng's emotions. He took out his phone and continued to call Ji Tong.
As Feng Feng stepped into the elevator, Shen Su's accusatory expression flashed in her mind. She then let out a sarcastic laugh.
She wasn't someone who cared about others' opinions, but she couldn't understand why Shen Su would look at her that way. While she wasn't overly close to Ji Tong, she had never acted disrespectfully towards her.
Feng Feng felt a pang of frustration. She walked out of the elevator in silence and waited by the roadside for her pre-arranged car.
A few minutes later, the car arrived. Feng Feng got in and instinctively looked out at the scenery. After a short drive, she suddenly spotted a familiar figure by the roadside.
"Driver, please stop," Feng Feng asked the driver to pull over. She then got out of the car and approached the figure.
When Ji Tong saw Feng Feng approaching, she quickly wiped away her tears, but her disheveled state was still evident. She looked terrible, as if she had been bullied.
"What's wrong?" Feng Feng asked Ji Tong.
Ji Tong shook her head. "Nothing, I'm just feeling down and decided to take a walk."
Shen Su was looking for her, and Ji Tong was walking alone. Had they argued?
Feng Feng didn't want to pry, so she said, "Mr. Shen came to the office to pick you up."
Upon hearing Shen Su's name, Ji Tong suddenly lowered her head. It seemed her mood was indeed related to Shen Su.
Ji Tong: "I don't know how to face him right now."
Feng Feng: "..." Hearing this, it really seemed like they had argued.
Feng Feng didn't want to ask further, so she just reminded Ji Tong to be careful and then got back in the car to go home.
After Feng Feng left, Ji Tong continued to walk with her head down along the roadside, Qin Siruan's words still echoing in her mind.
After walking for more than ten minutes, Ji Tong's shoulder was suddenly grabbed, and she was pulled into an embrace. By the time she reacted, she looked up and saw Shen Su's face.
Shen Su touched her face, looked at her red eyes, and smiled, asking, "Who upset you?"
Ji Tong was a little surprised. "How did you know I was here..."
Shen Su: "I couldn't find you at the office, so I came out to try my luck. Come on, get in the car with me first."
He led her to the car and, as usual, thoughtfully fastened her seatbelt.
Ji Tong kept her head down, lacking her usual warmth towards him.
Shen Su drove Ji Tong back to her apartment and went upstairs with her.
After entering, he pulled Ji Tong to sit on the sofa and held her in his arms to ask the reason. "Tell me, why are you suddenly in a bad mood? Who bullied you?"
Shen Su looked incredibly caring. Ji Tong looked at him and suddenly thought of Qin Siruan's words from earlier.
She asked, "Are you this attentive to everyone you date?"
Shen Su: "Isn't that what I should be?"
Ji Tong: "And after you break up? Will you still be this good?"
Shen Su pinched her chin, his brows furrowed slightly. "What nonsense are you thinking? Did someone say something to you?"
Given Ji Tong's personality, she wouldn't think of these things without reason. Shen Su instinctively thought of Qin Siruan. Knowing her personality, it wouldn't be surprising if she came looking for Ji Tong.
Ji Tong remained silent for a long time before saying, "Qin Siruan is your ex-girlfriend, isn't she?"
Shen Su: "Did she find you?"
Ji Tong didn't answer, but her reaction was tantamount to an admission.
Shen Su: "No matter what she tells you, you don't need to take it to heart. She and I are from many years ago. We haven't been in contact for years, and I have no feelings for her anymore."
What Shen Su said was within Ji Tong's expectations, but she didn't feel happy after hearing it.
She fell into a long silence again. After some thought, she asked him again, "If you break up with me in the future, will you be just as heartless?"
Shen Su: "Who said I would break up with you? Don't overthink things."
Ji Tong: "I want to know the answer."
Shen Su: "Don't make such assumptions, it's meaningless. I won't break up with you."
Ji Tong was still troubled. "But you were so good to her back then, and you still broke up."
Shen Su: "Because she was the one who initiated the breakup."
