Feng Feng got into Liang Yufeng's car and sat in the back with Lan Lan.
Perhaps it was due to drinking too much, though she didn't feel drunk, her entire being felt as if it were floating on air. It had likely been too long since she had drunk so much alcohol at once.
Feng Feng turned to look out the window. She rolled down the car window, and the wind outside blew in. The night wind in late October made her shiver.
Lan Lan looked at her for a long time before asking, "Are you alright? If you're not feeling well, just say so."
"It's nothing," Feng Feng replied. "I haven't drunk in a long time, and my body is still getting used to it."
Lan Lan pondered for a moment, then proactively explained to Feng Feng, "Lan Mei and I kept tonight's events from you mainly because we were afraid you'd overthink things. Neither of us expected Ji Tong to invite you."
"I understand, you don't need to explain so much." Feng Feng wasn't angry with them. Their friendship had lasted for so many years; how could she not know their good intentions?
Lan Lan had originally intended to stay with Feng Feng for a while after taking her upstairs. However, Feng Feng, considering that Liang Yufeng, the driver, was still waiting downstairs, let Lan Lan leave first.
Before leaving, Lan Lan, still worried, reminded her, "If you feel unwell anywhere, call me."
Feng Feng: "Okay."
After seeing Lan Lan off, Feng Feng remained in low spirits.
She stood by the window, lost in thought for a few minutes, then went to the liquor cabinet and took out a bottle of whiskey. She opened it.
The whiskey had been a gift from a client in Russia. It was high in proof and had originally been kept for collection. Now, after opening it, she drank half the bottle. She sat at the bar in the living room, taking sip after sip. The spicy liquor spread across her lips and tongue, stinging her eyes until they watered.
Feng Feng drank more than half the bottle. Eventually, her stomach couldn't take the stimulation, and she became completely drunk. Stumbling back to the bedroom, she fell asleep.
When she woke up in the morning, the room was filled with the smell of alcohol. The hangover made her body ache all over, and her head felt like it was about to explode.
Feng Feng got up and went to the bathroom to vomit. While showering, her head was still buzzing. The water pouring down from her head did not make her feel any clearer.
After showering, she still felt sore all over. Although she had a good tolerance for alcohol, this was the first time she had drunk so much that she became completely inebriated.
Not in the mood to cook, Feng Feng ordered a bowl of noodles for delivery. After eating, she took two painkillers, which made her feel a little better.
Feng Feng did not leave the house all day Sunday, lying in bed for a day and a night. Her body had recovered somewhat.
When she went to work on Monday, Feng Feng received a last-minute task. She had to attend a forum event with her leader that evening, which meant she might have to drink again.
Having been tormented like that over the weekend, Feng Feng subconsciously hesitated to drink. However, her leader had given the instruction, and she couldn't refuse such an event. In the end, she agreed and accompanied her leader to the hotel.
Coincidentally, Shen Su also attended this event. He came with another male assistant and surprisingly, did not bring Ji Tong with him.
Accustomed to seeing them inseparable, Feng Feng found it strange to see them apart.
When Manager Liu saw Shen Su, he brought Feng Feng forward to greet him. Feng Feng exchanged pleasantries with Shen Su, maintaining a superficial relationship, and then moved on.
Jinhe Fund had been on the rise for the past two years. Many people eagerly approached Shen Su to greet him when he attended such events. Feng Feng saw several executives surrounding Shen Su, and Shen Su graciously interacted with them.
One of them, who presumably knew about his relationship, jokingly asked him when he planned to get married.
This was not the first time Feng Feng had heard this question, and she had heard his answers a few times before. Yet, hearing others ask Shen Su this, her heart involuntarily leaped, wanting to know his answer.
Shen Su usually disliked being asked such personal questions. However, today, he smiled and generously replied, "If there's good news, I'll definitely send out invitations to everyone."
This answer was quite flattering to those executives, and they all chuckled merrily. Feng Feng, however, couldn't muster any expression and turned to follow Manager Liu to another area.
Hearing Shen Su talk about his affectionate daily life with Ji Tong was a form of torture for her.
During the rest of the event, Feng Feng tried her best to avoid getting close to Shen Su, lest she hear something she didn't want to hear.
With this thought in mind, Feng Feng didn't engage much in socializing and sat alone in a corner drinking a beverage. Unexpectedly, she ran into an acquaintance.
When Qin Siruan sat down beside her, Feng Feng almost thought she was hallucinating.
Feng Feng and Qin Siruan had met very few times. After that exhibition, she didn't know what heartless words Shen Su had said to Qin Siruan, but Qin Siruan had never appeared again.
Feng Feng had thought she had already left Nanjiang. She hadn't expected to encounter her again in such a setting today.
Seeing Feng Feng's surprised gaze, Qin Siruan smiled and asked, "Ms. Feng, you seem very surprised to see me?"
Feng Feng did not reply. Although Qin Siruan was smiling, Feng Feng could sense that the other party was not very friendly towards her, which had been evident from their first meeting.
Qin Siruan did not stop talking to Feng Feng because of her silence. She glanced at Shen Su in the distance and asked her again, "Did you come with him?"
From the direction of Qin Siruan's gaze, Feng Feng could tell who she was referring to.
Seeing Qin Siruan's hostile demeanor, it seemed she didn't know that Shen Su now had a girlfriend.
"Miss Qin, there's no point in talking to me," Feng Feng said to her directly. "The person you're looking for is over there. You should go find him."
Qin Siruan also smiled. "I will naturally go find him. I just wanted to chat with you for a bit."
Feng Feng: "We are not familiar enough for us to sit down and chat."
These words were quite blunt. Qin Siruan's expression stiffened for a moment, and then she asked again, "Are you talking about Shen Su?"
Feng Feng: "Then you shouldn't be talking to me at all."
Qin Siruan vaguely sensed something else from Feng Feng's words, but she didn't quite believe it and pressed on, "Why shouldn't you talk to me? Aren't you on very familiar terms with Shen Su?"
Hearing Qin Siruan ask this, Feng Feng knew that she must have been away from Nanjiang for a long time. If she had stayed here for another week, she wouldn't have asked such a question.
However, Feng Feng was in a bad mood and had no intention of explaining to Qin Siruan, so she picked up her cup and continued to drink her juice.
Seeing Feng Feng refuse to communicate, Qin Siruan happened to catch sight of Shen Su walking towards the terrace. She decided not to waste any more time with Feng Feng and hurried after Shen Su.
Feng Feng watched Qin Siruan's retreating back, her heart unmoved. She already saw the answer in her mind.
Shen Su went to the terrace to call Ji Tong.
Ji Tong was supposed to come with him today, but she had gone home temporarily because she was feeling unwell.
Shen Su: "Have you taken your medicine? Are you feeling better?"
Ji Tong: "Mhm, much better. Are you done with your business?"
Shen Su: "I don't have any engagements right now, so I'm calling you first."
Ji Tong: "Mhm, I'm fine... Maybe I just ate something bad at lunch."
