Chapter 456 Taking Care

Liang Yufeng was groggy and, upon hearing her voice, instinctively took it for a hallucination. It wasn't until she pulled him up that he realized it was truly her. He opened his eyes and his voice was hoarse, "Why are you here?" She had messaged him saying she wouldn't come.

"If I didn't come, you'd be waiting to burn your brain out," Lan Lan helped him up and handed him the fever-reducing medicine she had just bought. "Take the medicine first, and after you've taken it, I'll take you to the fever clinic. Your temperature is too high, and if you don't get it checked soon, something bad will happen."

Liang Yufeng didn't speak, just watched Lan Lan pour water and feed him the medicine. She brought the pill to his lips. He cooperated, opening his mouth, drinking water, and swallowing the medicine. Lan Lan then used the ear thermometer to check his temperature again. It read thirty-nine point seven degrees Celsius.

"How did you get such a high fever?" Lan Lan placed a cooling patch on his forehead again. "Should I call 120?"

"No need," Liang Yufeng stopped her. "I'll have the family doctor come over."

"Why didn't you call him earlier?" You have a family doctor, yet you waited until now to see him. When did he become so difficult? He's a CEO, how can he be so indifferent to his own health?

"I dialed the wrong number." Liang Yufeng picked up his phone again, this time successfully finding the family doctor's number and dialing it. He had originally planned to call his assistant to have the family doctor brought over as well, but he had mistakenly pressed the wrong speed dial number, and it had connected to Lan Lan.

The family doctor arrived quickly. Lan Lan opened the door for him. Upon seeing a woman in Liang Yufeng's home, the doctor's expression revealed a hint of surprise. Lan Lan ignored his surprise and explained Liang Yufeng's symptoms to the family doctor.

The family doctor seemed to know Liang Yufeng's health very well. After taking his temperature, he asked, "Did you catch a cold again, or have you been working too hard and not getting enough sleep recently?"

"Probably both," Liang Yufeng replied.

The doctor said sternly, "You know your own body best. Your condition over the years..."

"Just prescribe some medicine, it's nothing," Liang Yufeng cut him off. He had heard some words so many times that he could recite them by heart.

However, Lan Lan was not the same. Especially the doctor's previous remark, which sounded significant. She knew she wouldn't get any answers from Liang Yufeng, so she personally escorted the family doctor out and took the opportunity to inquire.

"Doctor, does Mr. Liang often get fevers?"

"Not frequently, but many years ago, he had severe pneumonia after being exposed to rain for too long. His body developed a chronic condition. Once he gets wet, catches a cold, or is excessively fatigued, he develops a fever."

The doctor had been arranged by Xu Zhengxi to accompany Liang Yufeng when he was studying in New York, and he was well aware of his health condition.

Many years ago, getting wet...

Lan Lan caught these two keywords and couldn't help but think of certain events from back then. Although she had broken up with Liang Yufeng at the time, she remembered the incident where he stood under the girls' dormitory, got a high fever and pneumonia, and had to be on an IV drip for a week at the campus clinic.

At that time, the incident had become a topic of discussion in the School of Economics and Management, and he must have endured a lot of mockery and teasing for it.

She never expected that this incident would leave him with far more than just the ridicule of those years.

After bidding farewell to the doctor and returning to the villa, Lan Lan's mood was somewhat complex. Although breakups in relationships were normal, Liang Yufeng's lingering condition was somewhat related to her. She decided to stay and take care of him.

Lan Lan stepped forward to change his cooling patch. Liang Yufeng's face was still very red, and his temperature hadn't subsided. "Go to the bedroom upstairs to rest."

Lan Lan helped him up, and Liang Yufeng didn't refuse, cooperating fully as she guided him upstairs. After helping him onto the bed, Lan Lan went to the bathroom, wet a towel, and handed it to him. "Wipe yourself down."

Liang Yufeng was groggy, his speech slurred. Although he took the towel, he made no move. Lan Lan frowned, and finally decided to wipe him herself. She rarely took care of people like this, having little experience with family or friends, let alone men. Liang Yufeng was the first.

After wiping him a few times, his temperature dropped significantly, or perhaps the medicine he had taken earlier was starting to work. Lan Lan had taken care of him for a while and was also quite exhausted. Once Liang Yufeng fell asleep, she also took a bath and lay down beside him.

It wasn't the first time they had shared a bed. And he was sick, so he really needed someone to take care of him. Lan Lan decided to stay, placing a bottle of water and all his medicine by the bedside.

Perhaps it was because he was sick, but Liang Yufeng looked more vulnerable in his sleep. His long, thick eyelashes cast shadows on his lower eyelids. His face was handsome, but Lan Lan hadn't looked at him so intently in a long time. The last time she had stared at him while he slept was probably in college.

After a few years, his features had matured considerably. His jawline was smooth and sharp. He had lost weight, and his nose looked even more prominent. Every feature was perfect. Having shed his youthful awkwardness, he possessed a unique charm that increasingly appealed to her.

Lan Lan watched him for a long time, then couldn't resist reaching out and touching his face. "You're such a looker, like a fox spirit."

At three in the morning, Liang Yufeng woke up. The bedsheets beneath him were soaked with sweat. His fever had broken, but the discomfort remained.

He turned on the bedside lamp and only then realized that Lan Lan was lying right beside him... She hadn't left?

Liang Yufeng reached out and touched her face. A rare smile appeared on his usually expressionless face. Just then, Lan Lan suddenly opened her eyes. "Why are you awake?"

Lan Lan hadn't noticed Liang Yufeng's smile, thinking he was feeling unwell. She reached out to touch his forehead. She didn't feel a fever, but her hand came away covered in sweat.

"Going to the bathroom," Liang Yufeng said. "You sleep."

Lan Lan said, "Oh." Since he wasn't feverish anymore, she wasn't as worried. "Take a shower."

Liang Yufeng did as she said. While showering, he kept replaying Lan Lan's action of touching his forehead in his mind, as well as her natural-sounding reminder, as if she were genuinely concerned about him.

After showering, Lan Lan had fallen asleep again. Liang Yufeng lay down beside her, moving a little closer.

Fevers can be recurrent. When he woke up the next morning, the fever-reducing medicine had worn off, and Liang Yufeng's temperature had risen to thirty-eight point three degrees Celsius. Lan Lan had been preparing to leave, but with him falling ill again, it was difficult for her to go. She decided to stay with him.

Normally, when they lived together, Liang Yufeng did the cooking. Today, he was the patient, and no matter how unreasonable she might seem, Lan Lan couldn't possibly ask him to cook. Besides, there was no housekeeper in his villa...

"I'll order you some takeout," Lan Lan opened the food delivery app and scrolled for a long time. "You're sick, so maybe you should have congee? Yangchun noodles seem fine too, and beef noodles are also okay... This beef noodle place looks delicious."

Liang Yufeng listened to her rambling, his gaze gradually heating up. When Lan Lan looked over, she met his eyes. "I'm asking you a question, why are you looking at me? You can't fill yourself by eating me."
