Liang Yufeng found Mai Xuanfeng's behavior today quite unusual. Had she discovered something amusing in the bedroom? Considering Lan Lan was still asleep, Liang Yufeng gently opened the door. Mai Xuanfeng had already slipped in before him. Liang Yufeng smiled helplessly and followed, but he didn't see Lan Lan on the bed.
He instinctively searched for her, only to see the photos on the wall. The smile on his face gradually froze. These photos...
The photos were arranged by year, all of them together. The first one was taken when they were dating in college; they both looked so young. They had taken many photos during their relationship, and these were only a portion of them. Further along were photos from their trip a few months ago. The years in between were blank, as they hadn't taken any pictures during that time.
Liang Yufeng's heart began to beat faster. He was sure these photos hadn't been there when he woke up. Why had Lan Lan suddenly plastered them on the wall?
Was it for this reason that Mai Xuanfeng had suddenly gone to call him?
As Liang Yufeng pondered, Mai Xuanfeng ran back. This time, she had a box in her mouth. Liang Yufeng took it, opened it, and found an envelope inside. It read, "For Liang Yufeng."
The familiar elegant handwriting immediately indicated it was from Lan Lan.
Liang Yufeng's heart pounded even faster. He held his breath and opened the envelope. On the yellowed letter paper, there was only one sentence: "Pick a day to get the license."
Liang Yufeng froze. For the first second, he couldn't even think, believing his eyes were deceiving him. Then, he thought he was dreaming.
It wasn't until Mai Xuanfeng appeared again, this time with a rose in her mouth, nudging his pant leg and barking, that Liang Yufeng was convinced that everything he had just seen was real.
Mai Xuanfeng held a rose in her mouth, looking at him expectantly. The thorns had been removed from the rose. Liang Yufeng took it, and in the next moment, he saw Lan Lan emerge from the walk-in closet of the master bedroom. With a sense of ceremony, she had changed into a deep red dress, her hair meticulously styled, and she had even put on makeup.
In her hands, she held a bouquet of roses. The morning sun shone upon her, making her glow. Her beautiful, delicate face was exactly as it had been when they first met. The refinement of time had made her even more radiant.
Liang Yufeng simply stared at her until she stopped in front of him.
He felt a bit flustered. When he spoke, his voice was filled with surprise and trembling, "Lan Lan, you..."
"Woof woof woof!" Mai Xuanfeng played her role in setting the mood, barking beside them as if to say, "Hurry up and agree to her." After barking, she began to circle around them, just as they had rehearsed.
Although Mai Xuanfeng was intelligent, she couldn't possibly improvise like this. Liang Yufeng connected the events of the past few moments. "When did you start preparing?"
"Do you like it?" Lan Lan asked, not answering his question directly. She handed him the bouquet. "You have to give me an answer first."
Liang Yufeng took the flowers. "Do I even need to say?"
He had dreamt of the day she would finally agree. Proposing should have been his task, but he had been afraid to act rashly. If he proposed without her consent, it might anger her.
Liang Yufeng had imagined the proposal scene countless times in his mind, but he had never expected that Lan Lan would be the one to initiate it!
"No, I want you to answer seriously." Lan Lan suddenly became very particular about the ceremony. "Do you want to marry me?"
"Yes!" Liang Yufeng replied firmly, his burning gaze never leaving her.
His answer was like a cadet responding to a drill instructor's command. Lan Lan laughed and pushed the flowers into his arms. Liang Yufeng took them, still unable to shake off the surprise. He looked at the flowers and then at the letter, murmuring to himself, "Am I really not dreaming?"
His incredulous expression made Lan Lan chuckle. She stepped forward and unceremoniously pinched his cheek. "Does it hurt?"
Liang Yufeng was so surprised that even the pain felt like happiness. "I should have been the one proposing..."
Whatever others had, she had to have it too. He never shied away from being proactive with her.
"Then you can propose again later. I didn't buy a ring anyway," Lan Lan said, raising her right hand. "I want a custom-made one, the kind with a diamond that blinds everyone."
"Okay, I promise," Liang Yufeng replied earnestly.
The surprise was so great that Liang Yufeng couldn't shake off his joy even during breakfast. Lan Lan saw him smiling foolishly while drinking his coffee and felt a hint of disdain.
After all these years, he was still the same as in college. If you treated him well, he'd just be happy. Mai Xuanfeng had more brains than him.
Despite her disdain, she found him adorable.
Perhaps this was what set him apart from other men.
He could be this happy because of one proactive gesture from her. From the moment they met until now, he had never had any ulterior motives regarding her. After wearing a mask for so long, one was bound to be moved by such sincerity and passion.
Thinking this, Lan Lan asked him verbally, feigning disdain, "What are you smiling about?"
"When did you start preparing?" Liang Yufeng was very curious and asked many questions at once. "Why did you think of proposing to me? How long did you teach Mai Xuanfeng? Who came up with the idea?"
"I thought of the plan myself, of course," Lan Lan teased him. "I was afraid you'd refuse me, so I had to find Mai Xuanfeng, whom you dote on, to help. At least you'd give her face."
He knew she was joking and didn't take it seriously, only smiling even more happily, like a child who hadn't grown up. "Then let's go get the license tomorrow."
Lan Lan said, "Oh." She had expected him to be this eager, so she had already prepared their household registration book a few days ago and informed Yu Ran and Lan Zhong. When they heard she was going to propose to Liang Yufeng, they were naturally overjoyed and couldn't wait for them to get married.
Before getting the license, they needed to take photos. After breakfast, Liang Yufeng eagerly arranged a place for the photoshoot and then went to the walk-in closet to choose his clothes.
When Lan Lan had changed, Liang Yufeng was still hesitating in front of the wardrobe. She walked over and asked, "Why haven't you changed yet?"
Liang Yufeng said seriously, "Help me pick one."
Lan Lan: "...Mr. Liang, all the shirts in this wardrobe look identical. What's there to choose from?"
For wedding photos, any white shirt would do. He was acting as if he were participating in a beauty pageant. He bought his shirts by the dozen, and apart from the style of the buttons, they were almost indistinguishable.
"Help me pick one," Liang Yufeng insisted on her choosing.
Lan Lan had no choice but to casually pick one for him. Only then did Liang Yufeng obediently change.
After changing, he went to the bathroom to fix his hair. Lan Lan looked at him and suddenly thought of a peacock displaying its plumage.
However, he still looked handsome as he fussed with his hair in the mirror.
