Chapter 430 Substantive Content

This means the right hand essentially does no wasted work, a habit caused by trail-braking into corners.

Riders who don't trail-brake into corners typically reduce their speed to a level that allows them to safely navigate the turn before entering it. This is the braking method used by most people in daily riding and even by those who have been on the track for a year or two.

This braking style leads to earlier braking points and a period where the right hand is idle, specifically from the time the bike enters the corner until it reaches the apex and the throttle is applied.

During this distance, as the bike begins to lean, the hand is free.

This braking method has many advantages, one of which is safety. Braking before the corner on a straight section of track keeps the bike very stable. Therefore, apart from those just starting out on the track, most riders in street racing or those who frequently ride mountain roads do not use trail-braking.

Although this braking method results in slightly lower speeds through corners compared to trail-braking, it provides the rider with sufficient reaction time to deal with unexpected situations.

GP riders, however, trail-brake into corners differently. The track has ample run-off areas, and in almost completely safe conditions, while piloting the most technologically advanced factory bikes, their goal is to maximize cornering speed.

This leads them to enter corners at higher speeds than normal, with later braking points. However, the braking sections themselves are entirely different: the former brakes on a flat straight, while the latter brakes over the distance from the braking point to the corner's apex.

Part of this distance is within the corner itself, which is why factory bikes are often seen entering corners with their rear ends lifted on the GP circuit. Such near-limit braking, if attempted in street racing, would bring the rider very close to heaven.

Braking in corners carries a very high risk of crashing. Riders need to use their brakes with high precision to control speed; a slight misjudgment, braking too hard, can lead to being thrown wide, or worse, a low-side crash.

Therefore, this trail-braking technique is generally only used on the track.

If one were to trail-brake into corners when riding mountain roads or in street racing, setting aside road surface and visibility issues, they could very well crash themselves out.

During the entire process of trail-braking, the brakes are not held down with constant force. Instead, the pressure gradually decreases from heavy to light. The initial application at the braking point is the hardest, squeezing the lever fully, and then as the bike enters the corner, the brake is gradually released until it is completely off at the apex.

After releasing the brakes, the throttle is applied directly. The right hand has no idle time and performs no wasted actions; it is almost constantly in operation. This is what is meant by the right hand doing no wasted work. While it tires the wrist, it allows for maximum cornering speed.

For the students at LS27, Lin Yan had Zhou Xian Yong teach them, starting with trail-braking, because trail-braking is the entry point to...

"Go back and do some physical training for his right hand and wrist,"

Lin Yan instructed Lun Si. Yan Xiao Qiang, an experienced rider, had sufficient wrist strength under normal circumstances, but it was somewhat lacking on the track.

In fact, Lin Yan's own physical fitness was not as good as that of a normal rider when he participated in the Isle of Man TT. Even now, his overall physical condition is not as good as that of a regular rider, but he has trained all the important limbs used in racing to their fullest.

Every physical training session Lin Yan has undertaken since his rebirth has had a specific purpose. Otherwise, how could he transform a weak body into an athletic one in just a few months?

"Yes!"

Lun Si nodded and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

"Train with focus, or you know the consequences!"

Lin Yan patted Lun Si on the shoulder and whispered a threat. He could see this, but Lun Si apparently hadn't.

It seems this kid isn't training diligently!

This is actually a false accusation against Lun Si. It's only been a few days, and he has noticed it, but the key issue is that he has no time to train!

With that contract in hand, he wouldn't dare to try any tricks!

Another lap passed on the track, bringing it to lap thirteen. Yan Xiao Qiang, enduring the pain in his wrist and arm, fought his way back to sixth position.

In the next two laps, he would target the fifth-placed rider ahead.

He had to fight for a spot in the top five.

In the stands, Lin Yan beckoned Zhou Xian Yong, who was nearby.

"When will Jiang Qi Mo's injury heal?"

"About another month."

Zhou Xian Yong nodded after a moment's thought.

"When can he get on the track?"

"Probably in a few more days."

"The qualifying race for the Genius Youth Cup is in a week. Tell him that if his body can't compete, he doesn't need to force it."

"Yes!"

The Genius Youth Cup is important, but one's own health is more important. Priorities must be clear.

Lin Yan plans to personally lead the team in this year's Genius Youth Cup.

Since he has nothing else to do, he might as well take these students to the event to broaden their horizons and, at the same time, reminisce about the past.

Thinking back to his own experience in the Genius Youth Cup, Lin Yan felt a genuine sense of nostalgia.

The bikes were running at high speed, and after half a lap, Yan Xiao Qiang closed in on the fifth-placed rider ahead, drafting behind him.
