The Ferry of Salvation

Chapter 500 The Local Tyrant's Revenge

In Li Chonglou's interrogation room, the male police officer was suddenly called out. He returned a moment later with a much more hostile attitude.

"I'm not playing games with you right now. While you have the right to remain silent, my subordinates personally witnessed you commit murder. These are things you cannot escape by staying silent!"

"We're all smart people here. If you don't want your friends to get implicated because of this, I advise you to confess honestly and stop playing dumb!"

Upon hearing the other party resort to threats, Li Chonglou immediately understood that the person who had just called him out was likely the second-in-command.

Li Chonglou's gaze turned somber, and he spoke, "I also advise you to handle this according to procedure and not let personal emotions interfere."

The male officer was taken aback and suddenly enraged, "What do you mean? Are you accusing me of abusing my power?"

The male officer stepped forward, grabbed Li Chonglou by the collar, and said fiercely, "Kid, do you know where this is? Not only is it a crime to slander a police officer, but we've had plenty of stubborn individuals like you tamed here year-round. Do you want to give it a try?"

Li Chonglou glanced at the surveillance camera above and chuckled, "Very well, I believe what you've said will be very helpful to my lawyer."

The male officer suddenly sneered, "Haha, what an ignorant child! You think having a camera will protect you?"

With that, he placed his hand on Li Chonglou's face and patted it a few times as a form of humiliation, then said, "Do you believe me if I say I can make it malfunction right now?"

Li Chonglou stared coldly at the male officer, remaining silent. However, his icy gaze sent a chill down the officer's spine.

Li Chonglou's calm reaction caught the male officer by surprise.

It was the first time he had encountered such a situation.

Normally, a person in this situation would either be terrified or lose their temper and retaliate. He had already prepared for the latter, intending to charge Li Chonglou with assaulting an officer regardless of the severity if he made a move.

But Li Chonglou did neither, leaving the officer momentarily at a loss.

Just then, the door to the interrogation room opened again, and a figure slowly walked in, waving to the officers.

Upon seeing this, the male officer released Li Chonglou's collar, shot him a fierce glare, and left the interrogation room with the other officers.

As the door closed, the perceptive Li Chonglou noticed that the red light on the surveillance camera also disappeared.

The entire interrogation room was now occupied by Li Chonglou and the person who had just entered.

The ability to make officers leave with a wave of his hand clearly indicated he was a person of importance. Li Chonglou subtly activated his Heavenly Eye perspective and instantly discerned the man's identity.

At that moment, the man sat down opposite Li Chonglou. In the dim light, a face bearing some resemblance to Zhao Hui appeared before Li Chonglou.

Before the man could speak, Li Chonglou spoke first, uttering a name.

"Zhao Lifeng, Zhao Hui's father. Hello."

Zhao Lifeng's expression froze. He was secretly shocked, wondering how Li Chonglou knew who he was, as this was his first interaction with the man.

"Have you seen me?"

Li Chonglou shook his head but didn't answer. Zhao Lifeng realized that whether he had seen him or not was irrelevant.

Seeing this, Zhao Lifeng cut to the chase, stating coldly, "Since you know who I am, let's get straight to the point. You broke my son's legs, and I will make you wish you were dead!"

Wish you were dead?

Li Chonglou smiled, but it was a cold, indifferent smile. "You mean my son can kill me, and I should just offer my neck to be chopped?"

It was a sarcastic remark, but to Zhao Lifeng, it was perfectly reasonable: "Kid, sometimes in this life, people don't live for themselves. If you have to blame anyone, blame yourself for not having eyes."

Li Chonglou's expression sharpened as he detected an underlying meaning in Zhao Lifeng's words, asking coldly, "So what are you trying to say?"

"Tian Fang, you should know her, Tian Lingli's unfortunate mother." Zhao Lifeng rested his chin on his hands, projecting an air of control, but his words were already laced with threats.

Li Chonglou remained silent, simply staring at him coldly.

Zhao Lifeng raised an eyebrow slightly, thinking that this person was indeed cold-blooded!

He then brought up another name: "If I recall correctly, Huang Corporation recently has a very important large order. What if I lend a hand, wouldn't that be better?"

For some reason, Li Chonglou suddenly burst out laughing, leaving Zhao Lifeng looking utterly bewildered.

"What are you laughing at?"

"What am I laughing at? Don't you find it ridiculous? The esteemed second-in-command of Shuyu County, the local emperor, is still using these low-class tactics to threaten people. Your reign as emperor is truly beneath standard."

Zhao Lifeng's face contorted instantly, as if his sore spot had been hit. He retorted, somewhat flustered, "Kid, don't refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit! I'll be blunt with you now: if you dare to lay a hand on my son again, whether it's Tian Lingli's parents or Huang Corporation, I can make them disappear with a single word!"

Zhao Lifeng's tone was clearly more than just a warning. However, before Li Chonglou could respond, Zhao Lifeng continued, "And don't forget, you are currently in my hands..."

Having said that, Zhao Lifeng's emotions stabilized, and a cold smile curved his lips. "You killed someone in front of the police. Even if your companions deny it, what good will it do?"

This point was precisely Li Chonglou's current weakness.

Li Chonglou frowned slightly. Zhao Lifeng, seeing this, pressed his advantage: "We have eyewitnesses and physical evidence. If I exert a little pressure, do you think it would be difficult to sentence you to death?"

Li Chonglou's heart sank.

Indeed, he had committed the murder, and there were police officers as witnesses.

If this case proceeded through the legal channels, it wouldn't be difficult to impose a severe sentence given the other party's connections.

Therefore, it was crucial to prevent the case from entering the normal process. With their collusion, evidence favorable to him might be eliminated midway.

A moment of oppressive silence filled the room.

Li Chonglou was contemplating whether to act now or wait. The other party's intentions were clear: they wanted him dead. If he didn't leave soon, he might...

Zhao Lifeng, meanwhile, was secretly pleased. His original plan was to placate the other party first, give them a sliver of hope, and then strike a sudden fatal blow. But to his surprise, Li Chonglou had provoked him, and now everything was out in the open.

He had finally achieved the effect he desired.

Zhao Lifeng thought smugly, "Yes! Just like this. I love seeing others struggle powerlessly when they want to resist!"

However, at that very moment, the interrogation room door opened once more. This time, it was the Director of the Public Security Bureau who entered. He quickly walked to Zhao Lifeng's side and whispered a few words.

Zhao Lifeng's face suddenly changed drastically.
