Xia Qingtian was summoned to the office after Mr. Gu left Xia Shi.
Upon entering the office, Xia Qingtian saw Su Wan and Song Junhan present, both with peculiar expressions.
Song Junhan, in particular, had his lips tightly pressed, his head slightly bowed, and a dark look on his face.
Su Wan's expression wasn't much better than Song Junhan's, except her gaze towards Xia Qingtian held a hint of scrutiny.
"Qingtian, we called you here for no other reason than to ask if you know Mr. Gu from Gu's Entertainment?" Xia Father asked Xia Qingtian from behind the large desk.
Hearing Xia Father's question, Xia Qingtian was taken aback.
She had thought Xia Father summoned her to discuss how she had been making things difficult for Song Junhan lately. She hadn't expected him to suddenly mention Mr. Gu.
Speaking of Mr. Gu, Xia Qingtian had only heard of his reputation.
Gu's Entertainment was the ceiling of the domestic entertainment industry; every artist under them became popular. It was said that Mr. Gu had a pair of discerning eyes; any artist he favored was guaranteed to become famous.
Any variety show he approved was bound to be a hit.
Some also called him the Midas of the entertainment industry.
It was heard that he was also thriving in the investment sector, and no one knew the extent of his assets.
All that was known was that he was low-key, rarely appearing in public. Even if paparazzi staked him out, they would most likely only capture a blurry silhouette.
This, in turn, made the public even more curious about this Mr. Gu.
In her past life, Xia Qingtian had longed to enter the entertainment industry. She loved singing and dancing, and enjoyed the feeling of being in the spotlight. She had also been curious about this Mr. Gu.
However, that curiosity was confined to the distance between a fan and an idol.
Why would Xia Father suddenly ask her this now?
Her beautiful eyes flickered, and Xia Qingtian recalled the documents Song Junhan had printed earlier, which seemed to be related to a cooperation project with Gu's Entertainment.
Thinking of this, Xia Qingtian's lips curved into a mysterious smile, "Mr. Gu… I suppose I know him."
"What do you mean, 'I suppose I know him'?" Su Wan looked at Xia Qingtian. She had always heard that Mr. Gu was mysterious, and even she had met Mr. Gu for the first time today. How did Xia Qingtian know him?
Song Junhan's gaze was also filled with surprise, subtly mixed with a hint of hostility.
If Xia Qingtian truly knew Mr. Gu, it would definitely be detrimental to his future plans.
"Qingtian, Mr. Gu he..." Xia Father was about to ask something but was interrupted by Xia Qingtian.
"Dad, if you're curious about my relationship with him, can't you just ask him directly? Asking me... how could I possibly say?" Xia Qingtian feigned shyness, yet appeared unwilling to continue. "Alright, I'm not saying anymore. I have to leave work early today."
"Leave work early? What do you have going on?" Xia Father asked curiously.
"School is starting soon, and I need to buy new bags." Xia Qingtian glanced at her watch. "A thousand pieces of gold are easily obtained, but a good bag is hard to find. I'm leaving now. If someone else snatches it up, I'll be so upset I won't sleep for three days."
After saying this, Xia Qingtian didn't give them a chance to ask further questions and turned to leave.
As soon as she exited the office, Xia Qingtian shed her arrogant and flamboyant demeanor.
"Mr. Gu..." she murmured, heading straight back to the secretary's office. After greeting the chief secretary, she left Xia Shi.
She needed to find a way to investigate this Mr. Gu.
At least, based on Su Wan and Song Junhan's reactions today, they were quite wary of this Mr. Gu.
With her mind made up, Xia Qingtian went directly to the building of Gu's Entertainment.
Arriving in front of the Gu's Entertainment building, Xia Qingtian pushed up the tea-colored sunglasses perched on her nose, only then realizing something important.
She had never seen this Mr. Gu before. It was likely that even if Mr. Gu stood in front of her, she wouldn't necessarily recognize him.
Thinking of this, Xia Qingtian clicked her tongue, "Sloppy."
But since she was already here, she couldn't just leave empty-handed.
Pacing back and forth, Xia Qingtian hesitated for a moment before heading directly to a coffee shop downstairs. She ordered a coffee and, after looking around, noticed there were quite a few people.
There were likely reporters waiting to take pictures, fans eager to catch a glimpse of their idol, and attractive men and women hoping to get noticed by an agent, as well as some content creators staging photos.
Xia Qingtian scanned the area but couldn't find a single empty seat. In the corner, however, she spotted a man impeccably dressed in a suit, engrossed in his phone with focused eyes.
Xia Qingtian didn't recall seeing this man on screen before, but his features were undeniably attractive.
Perhaps he was a high-ranking executive at Gu's Entertainment…
If she could strike up a conversation with him, there might be an opportunity.
Thinking this, Xia Qingtian walked directly over, placed her coffee cup on the table opposite him, and asked with a slight smile, "Excuse me, sir, is it okay if I share this table? There are no other seats."
This was the seventh person who had approached her for a table in just ten minutes.
He had intended to ignore her and politely refuse, but he paused when he met Xia Qingtian's gaze.
"Please sit," he said, glancing at his watch and then putting his phone aside.
"Thank you," Xia Qingtian replied, taking a seat opposite him. She casually asked, "What should I call you?"
"Mobius," the man replied, a hint of self-deprecation in his smile.
"Miss Xia," Xia Qingtian introduced herself, taking a sip of her coffee and subtly scrutinizing the person sitting opposite her.
Up close, he was even more handsome.
"Miss Xia, is this your first time here?" Mobius glanced at the coffee in front of Xia Qingtian. "You ordered the worst coffee in this shop."
Xia Qingtian was slightly taken aback. She pursed her lips, looked at her coffee cup, and then at the man's coffee cup.
"Mine is probably the second worst," Mobius said, lowering his head to look at his coffee cup, his tone tinged with melancholy.
"Pfft." Xia Qingtian chuckled at Mobius's words.
With this as a start, the subsequent conversation flowed much more easily.
"Mobius, do you work at Gu's Entertainment?" Xia Qingtian asked.
"Yes, in a way," Mobius nodded. "Does Miss Xia want to apply for a job?"
"A job… I'd quite like to be an artist, but that's not why I'm here this time." Xia Qingtian leaned forward slightly and asked, "Since you work at Gu's Entertainment, have you met Mr. Gu?"
"Mr. Gu…" Mobius's expression became a little subtle upon hearing Xia Qingtian's words. "Yes, I see him every day."
"Really?" Xia Qingtian sized up Mobius again. Her guess was correct; Mobius must hold a high position at Gu's Entertainment.
"Does Miss Xia want to meet Mr. Gu?" Mobius asked, looking at Xia Qingtian.
"Can you help introduce me?" Xia Qingtian asked, blinking at Mobius.
"It's not... impossible," Mobius said after a pause. "May I ask Miss Xia's purpose?"
"What purpose could I have? Everyone says Mr. Gu is mysterious and can turn lead into gold. I'm just curious." Xia Qingtian shifted her gaze from Mobius's face and then casually glanced out the window.
"Mr. Gu is very busy lately and may not have time to arrange it. How about we… exchange contact information, and I'll introduce you next time when there's an opportunity?" Mobius suggested.
"That sounds good too." Xia Qingtian hadn't expected everything to go smoothly on her first visit.
After adding Mobius as a WeChat friend, Xia Qingtian noticed Mobius's WeChat avatar was quite interesting. "This is the Möbius strip, isn't it?"
"Mhm," Mobius nodded, looked out the window, and then stood up. "It's about time, I need to get back to work."
"Okay, let's chat on WeChat." Xia Qingtian waved her phone and watched Mobius leave.
Looking at Mobius's retreating back, Xia Qingtian sighed softly. "It seems Gu's Entertainment is truly full of hidden talents. Such a handsome man isn't put on the front lines but works as a senior executive. This is a prime example of someone who could rely on their looks but chooses to rely on their talent."
Meanwhile, after leaving the coffee shop, Mobius took the elevator directly to the top floor.
As the elevator doors opened, his assistant handed him a document. "Mr. Gu, this is the plan for next quarter's variety shows. Please take a look."
"Mm, put it aside for now," Mr. Gu said, walking towards his desk. "Shengshi Entertainment is planning to sell a batch of film and television copyrights soon. Have someone keep an eye on it and acquire them as they see fit. However, we must get the film and television rights for 'A City of Dreams'."
Upon hearing Mr. Gu's words, the assistant was bewildered.
Shengshi Entertainment was currently at the peak of its popularity; why would they need to sell film and television copyrights in bulk?
However, remembering the legends Mr. Gu had created, the assistant agreed.
That evening, Shengshi Entertainment was rocked by a series of scandals involving coercion of male artists into illicit affairs, high-level drug abuse, and a mistress attempting a coup. Within three days, Shengshi Entertainment was heavily indebted and forced to sell its existing film and television copyrights.
With Mr. Gu's prior arrangement, the niche film and television rights for "A City of Dreams" were acquired at a very favorable price, along with several web novel film and television rights in the same batch.
After this was handled, the assistant silently bowed three times in admiration of Mr. Gu.
At the same time, Mr. Gu, revered as a deity by the entire company, looked at the WeChat chat window on his phone, a mysterious smile playing on his lips. Then, he tapped the screen with his fingertip and replied to a message.
[Miss Xia, are you free this weekend?]
Xia Qingtian quickly replied, [Yes, why? Are you going to introduce Mr. Gu to me?]
[Mhm.]
"Oh my gosh, this Mobius is too reliable!" Xia Qingtian exclaimed, holding her phone in disbelief. "As expected, he's someone who relies on talent; his efficiency is amazing!"
System: Mmm... As long as you're happy.
