Ling Tian and the others, led by Shreem, entered the main hall of the Demon Hunter Guild. On the first floor, there was an office specifically for registering new adventurers.
As they walked into the office, the two staff members inside were engrossed in their phones. Upon seeing the boss enter, they quickly hid their phones and stood up.
“Mr. Shreem, what brings you here?”
“These three are very powerful individuals. Register them, and I will arrange their assessments shortly.”
“Understood, Mr. Shreem. We will arrange it immediately!” the staff members said respectfully.
“As for the assessment, you don’t need to worry about it. I will handle it myself!”
Although Ata Shreem spoke with a smile, he harbored a murderous intent. Earlier, Ling Tian and Aurora had eliminated those three individuals in the camp, which was a severe blow to his authority. The fact that he had tacitly agreed to it made him feel disgusted. Ata Shreem was by no means a benevolent person, and he decided to teach Ling Tian and the others a lesson.
The staff member very enthusiastically called Ling Tian and the others to the desk to begin the registration.
“Ms. Aurora Kuiet, what is your special ability?”
“Ice!” Aurora’s reply was concise and as cold as a block of ice.
Aurora had no intention of hiding her identity. After all, she was extremely well-known in the Western superpower community, largely due to her incredibly powerful father. This also stemmed from a difference in mindset. While Chinese people generally tend to conceal their strengths, playing the role of the weak to deceive their opponents, Westerners, in contrast, preferred to display their formidable power to intimidate their rivals.
“Ma’am, your name and your ability…”
After registering Aurora Kuiet, the staff member turned to ask Ali. The staff members were very curious about Ali, this delicate little loli. Did she not know that such an adorable little loli might make the demons even more excited?
“My name is Kate, yes, Kate! My skill is speed!”
Kate was the English name Ling Tian had given Ali. Ali was a cat, a cat demon, and the name Kate was a homophone for ‘cat,’ which Ali liked very much.
“Alright, sir, it’s your turn!”
“My name is Chris Lin!” Ling Tian stated his alias without hesitation, not wanting to expose his true identity. After all, he had eliminated quite a few Americans on Hell Paradise Island, and who knew if any of them were looking for revenge.
“What is your special ability?” the staff member asked curiously.
“Power amplification, with Chinese Kung Fu!”
The staff member paid little attention to Ling Tian’s answer, as power amplification was the most common type of superpower among all ability users. Furthermore, Ling Tian’s actions in online videos corroborated his possession of immense strength.
“Alright, the registration is complete. Next, Mr. Shreem will personally conduct the assessment for the three of you. If you pass the assessment, you will be granted membership in the Demon Hunter Guild.”
The staff member finished speaking respectfully and handed the three completed forms to Ata Shreem.
“Let’s go, everyone. We’ll take the car. The assessment location is by the swamp!” Ata Shreem said with a smile, his composure so profound that his emotions were unreadable.
Feng Xiaoxi frowned.
“Mr. Shreem, wasn’t your testing location in the camp? I was tested in the camp before…”
“Christina, you may not know this, but the monsters are becoming increasingly powerful. We can only effectively deal with them by recruiting more powerful demon hunters. Those without strength are too numerous and would merely serve as food for the monsters. Therefore, our vetting process for new members has become more stringent. This is for their own good!”
“Is that so?”
Shreem smiled and led them to an adjacent room, which was over a hundred square meters and densely packed with weapons such as swords and sabers.
“Everyone, you may choose your preferred weapons for the assessment. You can select any weapon from this room; take as many as you wish.”
Upon hearing this, Aurora spread her palms. “I don’t need these things!”
Ling Tian stepped forward, examined the pile of items for a long time, and then picked up a flail. The head of the flail was the size of a volleyball and was covered in dense iron nails, giving it a menacing appearance. The entire flail, including the chain, weighed nearly a hundred pounds. An ordinary person would find it impossible to even lift such a weapon, let alone use it in combat.
“Excellent, I’ll take this one!” Ling Tian said with satisfaction.
Ali also entered the room, curiously observing the items within, but quickly lost interest. In Ali’s opinion, these weapons were just ordinary metal, far inferior to the weapons in Ling Tian’s spatial dimension.
Seeing this, Ling Tian reminded her with a smile.
“Ali, choose a weapon, so you don’t get your hands dirty during the fight later.”
Ali was very particular about cleanliness. Hearing Ling Tian’s reminder, Ali found it quite reasonable. She surveyed the room again and casually picked up a claw hammer from a corner. It was a very ordinary claw hammer, about 30 centimeters long, with one end for hammering nails and the other with two notches for prying them out.
The staff members watching this scene had their eyelids twitching. In their eyes, Ali was simply fooling around. Whether she had the claw hammer or not would likely have no bearing on her combat effectiveness.
After selecting their weapons, they got into a car. The specially modified off-road vehicle drove towards the distant swamp. Ata Shreem and some of his subordinates followed in two other cars.
Soon, the vehicles stopped at a swamp bordering a riverbank. Ling Tian could see massive creatures lying on the riverbank – crocodiles! The smallest of these crocodiles were at least three meters long, while the largest exceeded five meters in length.
Ata Shreem pointed at the crocodiles with a smile.
“Everyone, as you can see, these crocodiles are the subject of your assessment! You may choose any crocodile approximately five meters in length and kill it. If you succeed, you will have passed the assessment!”
