As she reached the doorway, she saw the entire courtyard filled with people gathered before the houses of Da Lang and Su Shi.
Divine Doctor Jin sat serenely in his chair, his expression calm, suggesting that Su Shi was out of danger.
Jiang Wan's heart settled back into her chest. She jumped off her horse, carrying the tea tree into the courtyard.
Seeing her return, Divine Doctor Jin asked, "Little lass, what are you carrying?"
Jiang Wan ignored his question. She quickly washed her hands, changed into clean clothes, and then headed straight for Su Shi's room.
However, as soon as she entered, she was pushed out. "Little girls aren't allowed in the birthing room. Go wait outside."
Jiang Wan looked up and saw an unfamiliar old woman.
Chen Yuezhi saw her enter and said, "Wan Wan, this is Granny Tian, recommended by your Aunt Cheng. Your sister-in-law is fine, everything is going smoothly, don't worry. It's a bit bloody in there, so you shouldn't come in."
Jiang Wan stood by the door and peeked inside, confirming Su Shi was in good condition. She then said, "Then I'll go wait outside. Sister-in-law, don't be afraid, we're waiting for you outside. Keep going, and after you give birth, I'll hunt game to nourish you."
Su Shi, covered in sweat, felt a warmth in her heart upon hearing this and nodded at her.
Urged by the midwife, Jiang Wan left the room and retreated to Divine Doctor Jin's side.
Divine Doctor Jin said leisurely, "Don't worry, your sister-in-law's body is very good. I examined her just now. Her constitution is even better than that of a normal adult man."
Speaking of this, Divine Doctor Jin was quite curious. He planned to ask Chen Yuezhi properly after Su Shi's delivery was over, to see how she had been conditioning Su Shi's body.
After all, Su Shi had been traveling on the road since she became pregnant. Under those conditions, many women had miscarried or aborted on the road. Even if they managed to hold on, both the mother and child's bodies would be affected.
Yet, Su Shi had not only been unaffected but her constitution was exceptionally good, something even he couldn't claim to achieve.
Therefore, he wanted to seek advice from his disciple.
Little did Divine Doctor Jin know that Su Shi's excellent health had little to do with Chen Yuezhi; it was entirely due to Jiang Wan's supernatural abilities giving her an advantage.
Jiang Wan, of course, did not explain. She stood quietly in the courtyard, waiting for the arrival of the new life.
A moment later, sounds of Su Shi enduring pain and exerting herself, along with the midwife's calm and steady commands, could be heard from the room.
Da Lang, who had been called back from the restaurant, clenched his fists tightly, his face full of worry as he stared at the door.
Zhang Qiaoxiu and Jiang Xiao, led by Wang Hongye, were burning hot water and constantly sending it into the room.
After about half an hour, the cry of an infant echoed from the room.
"She's born, she's born! It's a big fat girl!"
Upon hearing the sound, Da Lang excitedly spun in place. "I'm a father! I have a daughter! I'm a father!"
Seeing his foolishness, Jiang Wan couldn't help but shake her head, yet she didn't notice that she too had spread her mouth wide, smiling like a fool.
After a while, the door opened, and Chen Yuezhi emerged from the room holding the baby. Da Lang instantly darted over.
"Mother, quickly let me see my daughter."
Chen Yuezhi glared at him. "Didn't you even think to ask about your wife first? The baby is a bit plump, she went through a lot of hardship."
Da Lang was overjoyed and quickly changed his words. "Mother, how is A'luo? Is she alright?"
Chen Yuezhi finally nodded with satisfaction. "Her foundation is good. Although she suffered, there are no major problems. With good care, she will recover soon."
After speaking, she pushed Da Lang aside, bent down, and held the baby towards Jiang Wan, who had just squeezed her way over.
"Wan Wan, come. You are the best-looking in our family. You hold your eldest niece first. She will grow up to be like you."
Jiang Wan found it quite magical. Could it be like that?
She quickly wiped her hands on herself, then reached out and carefully embraced the swaddling clothes.
Chen Yuezhi didn't actually hand the baby to Jiang Wan. She supported the swaddling clothes with one hand and lifted a corner with the other, allowing Jiang Wan to get a clear look at the baby's face.
Upon seeing her eldest niece's appearance, Jiang Wan turned her head away in disdain.
She was too ugly, like a little old man. No wonder her mother wanted her to see first. With this niece's looks, if she didn't dabble in metaphysics, she would definitely be stuck with her in the future.
Chen Yuezhi stifled a laugh, reached out, and tapped her forehead. "When you were just born, you weren't much better. Wait a few days for her features to develop, and she'll be beautiful."
Impossible! Absolutely impossible!
Jiang Wan refused to believe it. Although she was a bit plump, her features were very beautiful. When she lost weight in the future, she would be a proper little beauty. With such a good foundation, how could she have had such an ugly past!
Chen Yuezhi stood up with a smile, dangled the baby in front of Da Lang, the biological father, and then carried her back into the room.
After the midwife cleaned up the room and was invited for egg tea by Wang Hongwei, Da Lang was finally allowed to enter the room.
Jiang Wan thought for a moment and decided not to follow.
This was a time for her elder brother and sister-in-law to build their relationship and have heart-to-heart talks. She, the little lightbulb, should be sensible and not get in the way of the young couple.
Before it got completely dark, Jiang Wan carried her hoe and dug pits in the courtyard, then took the tea tree out of its bag, preparing to plant it.
Divine Doctor Jin leaned over and stared at the tea tree with shining eyes, examining it. "Rare, truly rare! This tea tree looks quite old. Look at this spiritual energy... Little lass, where did you get it?"
Jiang Wan carried the tea tree over and placed it in the pit, then began to fill it with soil.
"Grand-master, it is over a hundred years old."
Upon hearing this, Divine Doctor Jin jumped up. "Heavens, do you know you're wasting a treasure?! A hundred-year-old tea tree, do you know what that means? You dug it out like this! Do you know you've essentially destroyed it?! With its age, once it leaves its original growing environment, it will quickly wither and die."
Jiang Wan ignored Divine Doctor Jin's outburst, leveled the soil, and even stomped on it with her foot.
Then, she turned to fetch a bucket of water and poured it into the pit. Without waiting for the water to soak in, Jiang Wan turned and left.
Divine Doctor Jin circled the tea tree several times, his heart aching.
Seeing his distressed state, Jiang Wan said, "Grand-master, do you remember that pot of medicinal herbs you had? And the osmanthus tree my younger brother had? Do you think I would let this old tea tree die?"
Divine Doctor Jin choked. "But it was growing well in the mountains, absorbing the essence of the sun and moon. You dug it up and planted it here..."
"What's wrong with it here? Does it not get the sun or the moon?"
Jiang Wan pouted. "The essence of the sun and moon, does it make a difference whether it's absorbed here or in the mountains?"
Divine Doctor Jin clutched his chest, his forehead bulging with veins. "Spiritual energy! Spiritual energy! What do you know, you little child! Old trees of this age only have spiritual energy when they grow in the mountains!"
Jiang Wan remained noncommittal. "Can that thing be brewed into tea and drunk?"
Divine Doctor Jin's veins throbbed on his forehead.
Jiang Wan put her hands behind her back. "Since it's already been dug up, it's impossible to plant it back. So, it will stay peacefully in my yard. As for that spiritual energy thing, how do you know I can't cultivate it?"
