Jiang Pan was startled by Jiang Wan's incredible skill. "Wan Wan, when did you get so strong?"
She was a good fifteen zhang away, yet she had managed to kill that wild wolf with a single strike!
Jiang Wan, her expression unchanged, replied, "An immortal helped me. Father, don't get distracted, there's still one more wolf!"
Jiang Pan quickly suppressed his surprise and turned to look at the other wolf.
The wolf glared at them, baring its teeth, its fur bristling, and a furious growl rumbling in its throat.
Jiang Wan urged the reluctant horse forward and took out a sharp, polished pebble from her pocket.
Seeing the two humans so bold, the wild wolf pushed off with its hind legs and lunged at the father and daughter.
Jiang Wan seized the moment and threw the pebble with all her might.
The pebble zipped through the air like a bullet, whistling past, and accurately struck one of the wild wolf's eyes, blowing it out.
The wolf writhed on the ground in agony, letting out piteous howls.
Jiang Pan immediately dismounted, brandishing his wood-chopping knife, and charged forward, striking the wolf's neck. Fearing it might not be dead, Jiang Pan quickly delivered another blow.
His strength was considerable; this second strike severed the wild wolf's head.
Wolf's blood spilled onto the ground, a gruesome sight.
The little horse flying overhead spotted movement in the distant forest and immediately let out a warning cry.
"Father, quickly tie up those two wolves, the pack is coming!"
"Alright!"
Jiang Pan promptly produced the prepared ropes, expertly binding the two wolf carcasses. He then mounted his horse again, dragging the wolf corpses on the ground.
Jiang Wan commanded the horse to turn and gallop back towards the camp.
The two wolf carcasses scraped against the ground, leaving behind two bloody trails.
In the camp, Chen Yuezhi, already pale with terror upon learning that Jiang Pan had taken Jiang Wan out to face wolves, was on the verge of fainting. But she dared not succumb, struggling to climb onto the nearest makeshift shelter at the edge of the camp, anxiously awaiting the return of her husband and daughter.
Su Shi was also terrified, her soul almost fled, trembling in a corner.
She truly had no idea what her father-in-law was planning. If she had known, she would never have helped him, even if it meant death.
In the forest, the horse carrying the father and daughter galloped at full speed, with the wolf pack pursuing them less than a hundred meters behind.
Jiang Wan used her abilities to make the horse run faster, while the little horse flapped its wings vigorously, leading the way.
Soon, they spotted the camp.
"They're back, they're back!"
"The wolves, the wolves are coming!"
The villagers took their positions. Some climbed into the treehouses, armed with their homemade bows and arrows, while others remained below, preparing to use launchers to repel the wolves.
The elderly and children retreated into the innermost shelters. Ladders leading up to the treehouses were then removed to prevent any stray wolves from climbing them.
The old village chief, standing in the foremost treehouse, ordered as the father and daughter on horseback were still about forty to fifty meters away, "Quick, pull up the planks!"
Several planks were laid out on the ground, and Jiang Pan, riding his horse, charged onto the planks and into the camp.
"Pull!"
The villagers worked together to pull away the planks.
Jiang Pan dismounted and lifted Jiang Wan off the horse, handing her to Da Lang, who was waiting nearby. "Take her to the treehouse!"
Jiang Wan refused to go. "I want to stay, Father. My skills are no worse than anyone else's!"
Da Lang said, "Wan Wan, go check on Mother first. She's terrified."
Chen Yuezhi peeked out from the window. "I'm fine, kill the wolves first!"
Jiang Wan looked up, intending to greet Chen Yuezhi, but Chen Yuezhi, without even looking at her, retracted her body.
What's wrong with Mother? Is she angry?
Jiang Wan didn't have time to ponder why Chen Yuezhi was angry, as the wolf pack had already reached the edge of the camp.
The villagers were intimidated by the dense wolf pack. Looking out, they saw a vast expanse of gray, the number of wolves impossible to count.
The entire perimeter of the camp was dug with traps, extending twenty to thirty meters.
As the wolf pack charged, many fell into the traps lined with wooden spikes. Cries of agony echoed from the traps, and the villagers couldn't help but cheer, "They're impaled, they're impaled!"
Just as the villagers were anticipating more wolves falling into the traps, a high-pitched wolf howl suddenly pierced the air. The wolves, which had been charging towards the camp with reckless abandon, suddenly stopped.
The little horse cried out loudly from the sky.
Jiang Wan knew the alpha wolf had appeared!
People standing in the treehouses shouted, "Look, there's a white wolf!"
The wolf pack slowly parted in the middle, and a wolf with snow-white fur emerged from the pack. This white wolf stood nearly a meter tall on the ground, with an estimated body length of about 1.8 meters. Standing among a pack of gray wolves the size of domestic dogs, it appeared exceptionally tall and imposing, inspiring awe and fear.
Yang the hunter tightened his grip on his bow. "That's it, the alpha wolf!"
Jiang Wan looked enviously at the white fur. "Father, I want to make a cloak from its pelt!"
Jiang Pan nodded. "Alright, it's yours!"
As if it could understand human speech, the white wolf fixed its blood-red eyes solely on Jiang Wan.
Jiang Wan gave the white wolf a disdainful smile, then walked to the two wolf carcasses and kicked one of them away.
The wolf carcass arced through the air before crashing heavily into a trap, the wooden spikes instantly piercing it in a gruesome display.
The white wolf was provoked. It let out an enraged howl, and the wolf pack immediately became agitated, launching a desperate assault on the camp.
Gray wolves lunged at the camp, sacrificing themselves without hesitation. Even as their companions fell into traps and were impaled, it did not deter their advance.
The white wolf continued its prolonged howling. Some wolves that had fallen into traps but were not fatally impaled, upon hearing the white wolf's cries, struggled to their feet and continued their charge towards the camp.
Yang the hunter said, "We have to kill that wolf. With it around, these wolves have a leader."
Jiang Wan said, "Don't act yet, leave it for last. Otherwise, once it dies, these wolves will surely flee. Our goal this time is to capture them all!"
She would never do something as foolish as letting the tigers return to the mountain!
Yang the hunter looked at Jiang Wan in shock, unable to comprehend how this five-year-old child could speak so calmly.
Looking at other children in the small mountain village, let alone five-year-olds, even ten-year-olds were terrified and hid in the innermost treehouse, not daring to make a sound. This child, not only fearless, but even dared to go with her father to lure wolves!
How on earth did the Jiang family raise their children!
Jiang Wan paid no mind to Yang the hunter's gaze, her attention focused on the movements of the wolf pack.
The white wolf was intelligent. It directed all the wolves to concentrate together, rather than attacking from all directions as the villagers had initially anticipated. Instead, they focused their assault on a single point.
This strategy rendered the traps dug by the villagers largely ineffective.
Because once a wolf fell into a trap, that trap would be exposed, and the wolves would simply bypass it.
After sacrificing nearly thirty wolves, the wolf pack managed to circumvent all the traps and advanced towards the camp.
