Chapter 131: Family Matter

Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Family Matter

Victoria couldn’t sleep well because she kept thinking about her father’s condition. Although her father had opened his eyes and was able to talk to her, she worried that one day his condition would worsen and she would have to prepare for everything. She and her husband had promised to take her father on vacation somewhere. She wanted to take him somewhere beautiful that he hadn’t been to due to his constant hospitalization.

Therefore, Victoria wanted to visit her father more often. Since she didn’t have much work today, she decided to accompany him to the hospital. Fortunately, when she visited, his father was still awake. She wanted to talk more about pleasant things.

Victoria gently wiped her father’s hand with a small towel. "Dad, did you sleep well last night?"

Devan smiled faintly and patted his daughter’s hand. "I can sleep soundly because I see you happy with Matthias."

A sweet smile spread across her beautiful face. "I didn’t expect this to be the first time you’d like him so much. You used to be enemies with him."

"My daughter, if you love Matthias so much, I’m truly relieved. If you like him, I’ll like him too."

"But if you still hate him, don’t push yourself too hard." Victoria’s eyes narrowed at her father. "Actually, I’m curious about what you two were talking about yesterday."

"Don’t worry, he and I didn’t talk about work yesterday. Matthias and I have decided not to be enemies anymore."

"Is it true?"

Devan nodded. "I don’t want him to keep hating me for the same thing for years."

Victoria immediately hugged her father happily. "Then you must get well soon, Dad. You’ll have grandchild soon."

Devan’s eyes widened. "Really? You’re really pregnant?"

Victoria rubbed her belly slowly. "I didn’t expect to get pregnant so quickly either. Now I want to focus on my health so my baby will be born healthy. I don’t want you to be sad seeing us suffer."

"Thank God, you’re pregnant. Finally, I’ll have a grandchild. Especially if my son in law is a good man, I won’t have to worry anymore."

Victoria momentarily reached for her phone, which was constantly vibrating in her bag. She stepped away from her father and answered the call from her client. After a brief conversation, she ended the call and returned to her father with a gloomy expression.

"Dad, I think I have to be back at the office in ten minutes. Is that okay with you?"

"It’s okay. You should get back to work. After all, when I’m gone, you’ll be in charge of the D&C Group."

Victoria’s eyes widened and her mouth dropped open. "Dad, don’t say things like that! I’m sure you’ll get better!"

"I was just kidding. But if I truly can’t stay in this world anymore, you’ll be the one to inherit the throne. I won’t give it to Fransisca. Because she’s not my daughter."

"Anyway, I don’t want my baby to lose his grandfather. I’ll be going now. When I get back here, I’ll bring Matthias with me. I promise."

Devan hugged his beloved daughter tightly. "You and Matthias must always get along. I want to talk to you later."

Meanwhile, Matthias’s expression looked gloomy, even though he had enjoyed himself with his wife the night before. He continued to breathe deeply as he stared at the photo of them together in Guam displayed on his desk. As he looked at the photo, tears welled in his eyes. He kept questioning whether he was truly worthy of being Victoria’s husband. He had previously spoken to her mother and urged her to divorce him immediately. He still couldn’t bet on his mother that his wife was actually pregnant.

"Victoria... your father actually approved of our relationship. But my mother wants me to divorce you. What should I do now?"

The assistant suddenly entered the room, carrying his tablet. Matthias briefly wiped his wet eyes, maintaining a stern expression as he greeted his assistant.

"Matthias, I’ve searched all traces of Victoria’s accident, but not a single media outlet has heard of it."

Matthias rested his chin on his hand. "This is so strange. I’m sure the perpetrators are people around me. Because only those around me have the power to control the media."

"But, can you guess who the perpetrator is?"

"I can’t just accuse anyone right now. The perpetrator is very cunning. It’s definitely not my mother, even though she hates Victoria."

"Then what are you going to do now?"

"My job now is to protect my wife. The criminal is still out there. My wife is pregnant, so she shouldn’t be doing much." Matthias glanced at the luxury watch on his left wrist for a moment. "I’ll be home on time today. Make sure I don’t have any more meetings."

"But, Matthias, your mother actually told me earlier. She wants you to come home later."

Matthias rolled his eyes. "Why should I visit her now?"

"She said you can’t refuse her invitation."

Matthias reluctantly returned home to visit his mother, who now resembled a stepmother. He rolled his eyes as he entered the house and sat down on the sofa. If only his grandfather were home, he would have liked to talk to him too. However, his grandfather was reportedly away. He was forced to confront his mother alone.

"What did you call me for, Mom?"

"I’ve been waiting for you, but I still haven’t heard from you. When are you going to prove that Victoria is worthy of being your wife, rather than Amber?"

"Mom, please! Give me a little more time! Actually, lately he has been–"

"I don’t want to hear any more excuses from you! If she keeps delaying things, you should divorce her as soon as possible!"

"Mother, you are really cruel to let me marry a woman I don’t love!"

Lucretia laughed awkwardly and crossed her arms. "Amber got pregnant because of you! Shouldn’t you be the one responsible?!"

"No! Amber is lying! It was Victoria who got pregnant because of me!"
