Chapter 124: Don’t Cry

Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Don’t Cry

Matthias was terrified when he heard his wife’s screams, accompanied by the sound of a heavy object falling. He immediately ran throughout the construction area looking for her. As he entered the main area, he found her body lying face down on the cement, pinned down by a large metal rack. His eyes widened, and he immediately lifted the rack with all his might, aided by numerous construction workers, to free Victoria. Luckily, his wife was still conscious, but his sobs shattered his heart.

Matthias quickly picked up his wife’s body and ran out of the construction site. The sight of his wife’s profusely bleeding right hand terrified him. If he had arrived too late, would his wife and child have survived?

"Victoria, I’m sorry." His tears grew louder as he looked at his wife who continued to groan in pain.

"Matthias... this isn’t your fault."

"Don’t talk too much for now. I’ll take you to the best hospital in town."

"Don’t cry... I’m really fine now. If you cry, I will be sad too."

Fortunately, an ambulance arrived quickly before Victoria lost too much blood. Upon arrival at the hospital, Victoria was immediately taken to the emergency room for maximum care, although an X-ray of her right hand revealed her injury wasn’t too serious. It was just a torn wrist ligament. Still, Matthias wanted to make sure his wife’s hand was okay rather than being unable to draw forever.

After only a short treatment, Victoria was transferred to an executive suite. Matthias bowed his head resignedly, holding his wife’s bandaged and casted hand as he let out a sob. He continued to blame himself for failing to protect his wife, even though this wasn’t as serious as her previous accident. If he continued to fail to protect her, was divorce the right choice?

"Matthias..."

Matthias slowly raised his head, looking at his wife, who was still smiling sweetly at him after her hand had been operated on. "Are you awake?"

"I heard you crying earlier. That’s why I woke up." Victoria rolled her eyes. "I told you earlier, I’m fine. Don’t cry anymore."

Matthias wiped his wet eyelids for a moment, then hugged his beloved wife tightly. "I’m sorry, Victoria. If only I’d let you stay by my side, you wouldn’t have been hurt like this."

"I’m actually very grateful to you. If it weren’t for you saving me, I probably wouldn’t be able to draw anymore."

"Victoria, I won’t leave you alone like I did again. I want to stay here with you all day."

"Then, what about your work?"

"I can have my assistant bring all the documents here. Anyway, I want to make sure you’re with me."

Victoria stroked her belly slowly for a moment. "Even earlier, I was so afraid of losing our child. That terrible incident still haunts me to this day."

"I was scared too. But it seems you and our baby are still protected by God. You’re good people, and you certainly didn’t deserve such a tragic fate." Matthias patted his wife’s supple back rhythmically. "You don’t need to think about that anymore. Now just focus on your health."

"Actually, I’m still confused. Even though I didn’t break any bones, why is my arm in a cast?"

"So your wound will heal quickly. You need to rest for at least two weeks."

"Even though there is an important event that I have to attend."

Matthias’s brow furrowed. "What important event?"

"I have to attend my father’s company anniversary in about three weeks," Victoria exhaled sharply. "If you don’t want to come, I won’t force you. Besides, I’m only coming as a formality. I’m the primary heir."

"I won’t stop you from traveling, don’t worry. As long as you focus on your health."

Victoria winked sweetly as she caressed her husband’s cheek with her left hand. "It sucks. I can’t do so much with you. I can’t cook, exercise, play, swim, and so many other things we could do together."

Matthias kissed his wife’s cheek repeatedly. "I don’t mind as long as you let me see you all day."

"This time I won’t stop you. I really need you here."

Because Victoria had to stay in the hospital for a few days, Matthias had to return home with everything they needed for their stay. Now, Victoria lay alone in the hospital bed, staring out the window at the orange sky. She remembered the time they spent together, admiring the orange sky in Guam. That was the moment she had plucked up the courage to openly express her feelings to Matthias. Now, she couldn’t do anything about it.

Hearing the sound of someone opening the door, Victoria immediately turned around to greet her husband. However, expectations were far from reality. Seeing that it was Amber who had approached her, her expression immediately turned blank.

"How did you know I was being treated here?"

Amber smiled sarcastically as she placed the bouquet of roses on the table. "Of course I learned about it from the construction workers."

Victoria looked away in annoyance. "What was your purpose for suddenly coming to me?"

"Of course I’m very worried about your condition. Your life was suddenly in danger after our conversation earlier."

"If you don’t have anything important to say, you should get out of here. I’m so sick of seeing your face!"

"Really?" Amber pointed to the bouquet of roses she had bought. "I went to the trouble of buying flowers for you."

"I told you to get out of here! I know you came to visit me to mock me. Because I’m seriously injured, everyone thinks I’m disabled and unfit to marry Matthias!"

Matthias suddenly entered the room in the middle of the women’s argument. He immediately dumped everything on the floor and approached his friend with an angry look.

"Amber, what are you actually doing here?"

"Of course I want to visit my friend. Can’t I? I brought her flowers, too." Amber immediately leaned closer to her friend with a sweet smile. "I’m really worried about Victoria, actually."
