Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Gloomy Day
Victoria is ready to confront her cruel stepmother to discuss the issue of the advertising video circulating on social media. This time, she won’t let her stepmother control her life, as she has the right to live her life according to her own wishes. Moreover, she has a backup plan to ensure her stepmother’s compliance. To have a happy married life with Matthias, she must risk everything.
The stepmother crossed her legs haughtily. "You finally visited me after being gone for so long. Are you satisfied being Matthias’s lover?"
Victoria could only laugh in annoyance at her stepmother who always brought up the same problems that were never resolved. "Aren’t you sick of forbidding me from dating Matthias? Wouldn’t it be to our advantage?"
"Who do you think is to blame for our company’s current decline?" The stepmother slammed the table repeatedly. "You need to wake up, Victoria! This is your fault, T&H Group has blocked us!"
"But Matthias isn’t the type of man who likes to cause trouble! He deliberately acted cruelly out of the blue to prevent you from becoming even more greedy!"
"What are you saying?!"
"Matthias hates you guys so much because you’re greedy! He only loves me now."
"He often says he loves you. Does he really love you? I know that commercial was just an act, and you’re deliberately trying to seduce him to win his heart over to you!"
"No. He really loves me. He and I even promised each other we’d never be apart again."
"However, you cannot live together. That was our previous agreement."
Hearing her stepmother’s slightly ambiguous words, Victoria furrowed her brows. "What deal?"
"Forget it," the stepmother handed Victoria an invitation card. "By the way, haven’t you forgotten that our company’s anniversary is coming up soon?"
"Do I have to attend? I don’t have any position in your company! Do I have the right to attend the party?"
"If you still love your biological father, I suggest you just attend."
"My dad is lying in the hospital, but you tell me to have fun! You are really mean!"
"If you don’t want to obey me, you have to give me some money."
Victoria furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"
"You’ve been dating Matthias for quite some time. You should be receiving a lot of money from him."
"While dating him, I never asked for anything and I even forbade him from giving me anything."
"In that case, I will still forbid you from marrying Matthias. Since Matthias has caused so much trouble for our company, I will not forgive him."
Now Victoria wanted to play her final card to stop her stepmother from doing anything. "I just want to tell you that all my memories are back now."
"Then, what should I do now that you know everything?"
"Actually, I’m just curious. Why was the accident I was involved in so quickly covered up and the police deleted the footage?"
"Who said something like that?"
"I did some secret research. But there was no record of my accident."
*****
Victoria had suspected her stepmother was plotting something all along. It was highly unlikely that the hit-and-run accident she’d been involved in two years earlier would have been immediately covered up and the footage erased. Could it be that her stepmother was the one who’d been trying to kill her all along? Lucretia couldn’t have been the culprit, as she wouldn’t have acted foolishly for selfish reasons.
What now intrigued her was what had happened to her husband since yesterday. From last night until this morning, he had maintained a blank expression, despite making time for chicken feet soup every morning. Had Matthias been scolded by his own mother yesterday? How long would Matthias have to hide his problems?
When she visited the construction site, she felt lonely because her husband didn’t talk much. He was usually very talkative during their observations, but now he was focused on the builders. Should she take the initiative to talk to him first to prevent him from becoming even more distant?
"Matthias, may I give you some advice?"
"Victoria, can we talk about this later? I still want to discuss things with Team B."
Victoria pursed her lips as she turned around. "Okay. I’ll just walk around here for a bit."
As Victoria was walking alone out of the main construction area, someone suddenly hugged her from behind, causing her to turn around. She was shocked to see her husband so affectionate, despite having been cold to her previously.
"Matty, don’t you still want to discuss it?"
"Do I have to discuss with the others now?"
"No. I don’t like it. Can I be selfish now?"
"There’s no stopping you." Matthias waved his wife’s right hand enthusiastically. "Actually, I was just acting. This is because you suddenly asked me to talk to you just because of work."
Victoria’s lips curled into a pout. "I’m actually really worried about you. From yesterday until this morning, I felt like you were on your mind."
"I told you yesterday. I feel tired because I was busy working yesterday."
"This is what really worries me. If you’re really tired, you should rest. Don’t make me chicken foot soup so often."
"But I still want to keep you and our baby healthy."
"As for you, are you going to let your body get tired?"
Matthias hugged his wife tightly, leaning his face closer to her red lips. "I don’t care. I only care about you."
Victoria’s smile widened and she patted her husband’s shoulder. "Could you please stop flirting with me here? You can flirt with me as much as you like at home. I’d be embarrassed if I did it here."
"I couldn’t hold it in since this morning. I’m so sorry for being so cold to you."
A husband and wife smiled happily, gazing intently at each other. Slowly, they moved their lips toward each other, eager for the much-desired touch, as they were now in an empty room. No one should have disturbed their moment.
"Matthias?"
