Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Investigation for Sudden Accident
Police are still searching for the perpetrator who hit Matthias and Victoria yesterday. However, they are having difficulty finding the perpetrator because the license plate on the car they were using was fake. The police were forced to summon Matthias and Victoria for questioning as both witnesses and victims. They were questioned one by one in the interrogation room to determine if anyone harbored a grudge against them.
When the lead detective questioned them, they naturally couldn’t answer confidently because they didn’t have any concrete evidence. However, Matthias had already told the detective that Gianna had previously wanted to kill Devan. Matthias handed the detective a voice recorder so the investigation could focus on Gianna, who had been acting hypocritically in front of everyone.
Matthias was interrogated in the interrogation room for quite some time, making Victoria a little suspicious. What exactly had her husband told the chief detective, even though he had always claimed he had no evidence, was true. She could only wait for him to tell her everything at the right time.
Victoria returned to her office with a gloomy expression. She was increasingly disappointed in her husband because he hadn’t said anything about the interrogation when he dropped her off at work. Was he really hiding something from her? Why would he go to such lengths?
"Victoria, are you okay?" Louis asked in a panic, seeing his partner’s physical condition.
Victoria nodded. "I can work now. The car accident Matthias and I were in is still under investigation."
Louis clenched his right fist and slammed it on the table. "Why is everyone targeting you, anyway? You had an accident that resulted in a miscarriage. Now someone wants to kill you. And yet, neither of you are sinners!"
"What’s certain is that I feel like the culprit hasn’t given up on me from the start. Two years ago, the real culprit tried to kill me, and then a while ago, someone killed my father. Now, he wants to kill me and Matthias. If I combine all the strange incidents I’ve experienced since then, it all seems logical that there’s only one culprit."
"But, can you guess who the person who hates you all this time is?"
"It was definitely my stepmother who wanted me gone all along. She abandoned me from the start. Even when I had an accident two years ago, she hid me in a remote hospital to make it seem like I’d disappeared from Matthias’s life." Victoria rested her chin on her hand. "There’s not even a record of the accident two years ago."
"So, it can be concluded that your stepmother also killed your father?"
Victoria nodded. "Yes, because my father’s will was definitely revised by her. Because she wanted my father’s fortune so badly, she deliberately disguised it as if she didn’t want it. That’s why she wrote that will for Fransisca. From the start, she wanted to kill me because I was the primary heir to the D&C Group."
"So, what does that have to do with the accident you and Matthias had yesterday? Shouldn’t he be satisfied that his only daughter gets all the property?"
"Judging by her personality, she’s not the type of woman to be easily satisfied with her current achievements. She must still want to eliminate me because I’ll definitely fight her someday." Victoria laughed awkwardly, shaking her head. "She really is an idiot. I know all her plans."
"But, when will you catch her?"
"Of course, as soon as possible. Because I’ve been itching to catch him for a long time. It’s just that I don’t have any proof yet."
"It looks like it will take quite a while if no one helps you."

Meanwhile, Matthias returned to his work at his company with a cold expression. He was determined to hand over his evidence to the police so they could arrest Gianna immediately. Unfortunately, the police couldn’t arrest Gianna easily because the illegally obtained audio recording couldn’t be used as evidence. That was what made him want to scream and rage. If only his wish had come true, he wouldn’t have had to worry about making a backup plan so soon.
Since his assistant was hospitalized, he’s felt the burden he’s been carrying has been incredibly heavy. The focus of the accident has been on him. All the recent incidents have centered around him. Should he now give up everything for his wife’s safety? Especially now that his assistant’s life is in danger because of him.
Matthias briefly contacted his biological mother to ask for a meeting. However, for some reason, he found it incredibly difficult to meet her, as his goal was to make her happy.
At lunch, Matthias deliberately didn’t want to go out with his wife because he wanted to discuss this important matter with his mother. He deliberately used the excuse of a meeting to avoid further worrying his wife.
Matthias chose to have lunch at home because he didn’t want anyone to know about his plans. He tried to appear friendly so his mother wouldn’t worry.
"Matthias, it’s unusual for you to invite me to lunch with you. Aren’t you usually busy?"
"Mom, actually my purpose in wanting to invite you to lunch together is because there is one important thing I want to discuss with you."
"By the way, how is Victoria? Is she okay?"
Lucretia’s unusual concern for her enemy made Matthias’s gaze widen. He even felt like he was in a dreamland, as it was impossible for his mother to suddenly say something like that.
"Mom, are you okay? It’s unusual for you to ask about Victoria."
"I actually feel really guilty when I heard Victoria had a miscarriage." Lucretia lowered her head, wiping her lips with a tissue. "That baby... my grandchild... I should have treated her better."
"You can’t go back to the past, Mom. Victoria and I have already given up our baby."
"I’m sorry, Matthias. If I had given my blessing to your marriage from the start, you wouldn’t be facing this problem."
"But, can I still accept your previous offer?"
