Huan Meng Lie Ren

Chapter 101 The Vanishing Soul

Looking at Jiang Yusheng, whose temples were already streaked with white and his face etched with worry, Wen Wen felt no sympathy or hatred.

He might have struggled, he might have repented, but people must take responsibility for their actions.

What Jiang Yusheng had done before would make even bandits look down on him, because he had eliminated his accomplices along with himself.

Judging by his subsequent 평범한 (peaceful) life, he had not used the proceeds of his crime to live a life of debauchery, nor had he continued down the path of crime.

Perhaps it was just a fleeting evil thought, perhaps it was a moment of impulse, but since it was done, a price had to be paid.

"When I first came here, I said I would resolve the issues here tonight, and now it's time to end it."

"How do you want to resolve it? Arrest me and send me to jail? That's right, you're a detective, you'd get a reward for catching someone like me."

Jiang Yusheng looked at Wen Wen, his words tinged with melancholy, no longer hiding anything. His mother and Jiang Wenyue stared at Jiang Yusheng in shock, as if seeing him for the first time.

That incident had always been a knot in his heart. One scheme earned him a fortune that was considered immense in those times, but he used all of it to buy this villa, yet he had never spent a single night here in over twenty years.

It wasn't until his son got a dog and needed a larger space that he brought his entire family to live here.

Being exposed by Wen Wen today, he suddenly felt a sense of panic, but he also felt as if a heavy burden had been lifted from his heart.

"Jail... ha, you're not qualified to go to my jail."

Wen Wen turned to look at Ren Tou Gou (Human Head Dog) and said coldly, "Turn off your ability and let him repay his debt!"

It lay on the ground, covering its eyes with its paws, unwilling to watch what was about to happen. Then it turned off its ability, and the entire villa instantly became chilling.

The moment the ability was turned off, figures with missing arms, missing legs, and unrecognizable faces, all appearing miserably, emerged from the air.

What was once a spacious villa instantly became crowded, filled with ghosts exuding a chilling aura!

Upon seeing these figures appear, Jiang Yusheng's expression turned vacant. The faces of these ghosts were exactly what he had seen in his dreams for the past twenty-odd years.

And what he feared most was seeing these people again!

Upon seeing this scene, Madam Jiang fainted directly. Jiang Wenyue let out a scream, then covered her face, not daring to look.

Only Jiang Wenhu's lips trembled, but he maintained his composure.

However, the calmest one was not Jiang Wenhu, but the originally timid Jiao Xinlei who had come with Wen Wen. After coming out of the restroom, she had been able to see these things, so the current scene was not particularly terrifying for her.

"Mr. Jiang, I am just a detective, not an enforcer of the law, so I will not judge you. However, I also have no obligation to protect you!"

Wen Wen no longer looked at the now somewhat dazed Jiang Yusheng and said coldly to the glaring ghosts:

"You can get revenge, but the chance for revenge is given by me, and you must do it my way. The wronged have their perpetrators, and the debts have their owners. You can only retaliate against him alone, otherwise, I will not be polite."

After Wen Wen finished speaking, the ghosts all pounced on Jiang Yusheng, tearing at his body.

Jiang Yusheng did not resist, merely murmuring unintelligible words.

He regretted it now. Originally, he ran a car repair shop that occasionally put nails in tires to puncture car tires. He lacked the courage and the ability to commit a major crime that caused hundreds of deaths, and yet escape unharmed.

All of this stemmed from someone's instigation.

It was that person who helped him plan everything, who helped him clean up the aftermath and eliminate all uncertain factors. And that person only asked for one thing.

At the last moment, Jiang Yusheng recalled that scene.

On the chair in front of his car repair shop, he was complaining about his low income, when a gentleman dressed in a white suit and leaning on a cane offered him an ancient-looking contract...

Seeing the ghosts gnawing at his father, Jiang Wenhu snatched the bamboo knife from Jiao Xinlei's hand and rushed towards the ghosts, wanting to save him!

But his shoulder was easily grabbed by Wen Wen, preventing him from moving forward.

"Let go of me!" Jiang Wenhu struggled forcefully.

Wen Wen raised an eyebrow and said, "He deserves to die."

"But he is my father," Jiang Wenhu roared.

Seeing him still trying to rush forward, Wen Wen sighed. He brought his hands together to form a hand knife and struck Jiang Wenhu on the neck.

Jiang Wenhu cried out in pain, collapsing to his knees from the blow. His neck turned red and swollen, but he did not lose consciousness.

"They always faint from this on TV... I must be doing it wrong."

So Wen Wen struck him on the right side again, and Jiang Wenhu's right neck also became red and swollen...

Now Jiang Wenhu no longer insisted on saving his father, as his shoulder was in severe pain, making it impossible to get up.

"Hmm... operational error, operational error."

Wen Wen half-crouched and awkwardly extended his finger, flicking Jiang Wenhu on the forehead with a tremendous force that instantly knocked him unconscious.

"Hmm, that's more like it."

Wen Wen stood up with satisfaction. Whether this flick would cause Jiang Wenhu a concussion or not was not his concern.

After dealing with Jiang Wenhu, Jiang Yusheng on the other side had been bitten by the ghosts until his flesh and blood were mangled, and his intestines and bones were exposed. The scene was extremely bloody, and he was clearly beyond saving.

Jiang Yusheng's soul detached from his body. As the ghosts were about to tear his soul apart, they were repelled from his soul.

Then, his soul disappeared!

Wen Wen raised an eyebrow. He could not see human souls, nor did he know that Jiang Yusheng's soul had disappeared, but he had just felt, for a moment, that a passage to the inner world had opened at Jiang Yusheng's location!

The ghosts had not destroyed Jiang Yusheng's soul and had not perfectly completed their revenge. Their crimson eyes fixed on the remaining three members of the Jiang family. They had been provoked and might now launch indiscriminate attacks.

Wen Wen blocked the way of the remaining three and tilted his head to look at these ghosts: "Your revenge is complete. The remaining three have nothing to do with that incident. Return to your world."

As Wen Wen spoke, some of the ghosts gradually vanished into the air. Their lingering执念 (obsessions) that supported their existence in the real world had disappeared, and they could now depart.

As for the remaining ghosts, they remained in the villa with cold eyes.

"As expected, it's impossible to negotiate rationally with things like you. I thought you could communicate since I saw people on TV talking to ghosts..."

"After becoming ghosts, you can no longer be considered human. It was my mistake to try and reason with you."

Wen Wen chuckled, then his expression turned grim. He tilted his head slightly, and a wild aura emanated from him.

"Now, I give you two choices: either obediently return to the inner world, or simply die here."

Under Wen Wen's aura, the ghosts retreated slightly, but then they pressed forward again.

What caused their tragic fate was Jiang Yusheng, but killing only Jiang Yusheng was not enough. Their hatred demanded more than just one death!

"Since you don't want to go back, then stay here."

Wen Wen said, caressing the Disaster Containment Facility glove on his hand.
