Chapter 8 Ghostly Abilities and Mutations

A young man and woman appeared in room 224, where Wen Wen had battled last night.

“The low temperature hasn’t completely dissipated, it was from the fight just now!” the youth in a cowboy hat said, squatting on the ground and feeling the temperature with his hand.

“Is it one of ours?” asked the red-haired girl in hot pants and white stockings.

“No, the assistant at the door seems to have been hypnotized, his memory is flawed,” the cowboy man shook his head.

The cowboy man closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, the whites of his eyes had turned entirely green. He scanned the room, then sighed after a moment, his eyes returning to normal.

“Did you find anything?” the girl asked, covering her nose as she smelled, feeling there was a peculiar odor in the room.

“The person from last night was very cautious, leaving no trace, but their aura hasn't dissipated. I should be able to track him…

And from the aura, it seems to be a newly awakened super-user. I hope they don’t run into those lunatics first, or it will be trouble later.”

After leaving the containment facility, Wen Wen manifested his gloves and tapped on them, intending to test the basic abilities of a ghost and see how they differed from those of a vampire.

After making his selection, his body underwent another peculiar transformation, every cell changing, and then…

Then his clothes fell off…

Wen Wen’s entire being became ethereal, but it was clear that the Calamity Containment Facility hadn't granted his clothes the same ability.

“This is… too embarrassing.”

Wen Wen was now like a ghost, able to float in the air, invisible to ordinary people, and pass through certain objects.

But apart from that, he had no other abilities. It seemed that Qin Shuang’s freezing ability, as a little ghost, fell into the category of special abilities and was not included in his basic powers.

Thus, Wen Wen sat motionless in his hotel room for about ten minutes. Only after the cooldown period passed did he switch his physical state back.

“Even if others can’t see me, I don’t want to walk around naked.”

Wen Wen scratched his head in frustration. If he couldn't solve the problem of his clothes disappearing during the switch, the ghost state would be half its use, at least for him.

“Ordinary clothing should not be able to withstand the effects of the Calamity Containment Facility… Then, what about clothing from the Calamity Containment Facility?”

He opened the silver briefcase and put on the black trench coat. The coat fit him perfectly, accentuating his physique.

“It’s so light… and it barely affects my movements. I might consider wearing this often from now on.”

After putting on the trench coat, Wen Wen attempted to transform into his ghost form again. This time, only a lone pair of black underpants fluttered to the ground…

The containment facility’s uniform did not include underwear…

“Ugh… it’s a bit chilly, but it’s much better than before. Let’s go out and see.”

Wen Wen willed his body to conceal itself and floated out of the room, wandering through the entire hotel, savoring the thrill of being invisible.

Teasing sensitive cats and dogs, blowing cold air on people’s necks to give them goosebumps, and peeking at some private moments…

Well, it was a testament to his integrity that he didn’t go to the women’s bathhouse.

After experiencing it to his heart’s content, he discovered that the ghost body was not omnipotent and had many limitations.

First, he couldn’t pass through a lot of metal. Moreover, in this state, aside from suddenly appearing to scare people, he had no means to attack others. If he encountered someone who could perceive spirits, he would simply be a target.

Therefore, while this form was novel, it was still not as practical as the vampire form. However, in certain special situations, it might prove very useful.

He walked out of the hotel and looked up at the sky. The once azure sky had turned a hazy gray, with many blurry shadows seemingly floating in the air.

In the street corners, faint spectral figures could be seen, their faces vacant as they wandered aimlessly.

Those were likely ordinary ghosts. Even at a distance from an evil spirit, Qin Shuang was considerably stronger than these ordinary ghosts.

“It seems this is the vision of a ghost. It’s different from what normal humans see. The ordinary ghosts are walking on the ground; what are those floating in the sky?”

Wen Wen squinted, trying to get a clearer look at the ethereal shadows floating in the air. As he strained his eyes, the shadows became increasingly distinct.

It was a monster with a human upper body, wings on its back, and a wriggling serpent's tail for its lower half!

The moment Wen Wen clearly saw the monster, it suddenly turned its head to look at him, its emerald eyes emitting a terrifying madness!

“This is bad! I’ve attracted its attention!” Wen Wen quickly averted his gaze, but it was too late.

Their eyes met, forming a thin line of gray mist. The monster followed the line and flew towards Wen Wen at high speed!

Midway, it abruptly stopped, as if squeezing through an extremely narrow space.

It was advancing very slowly now, but with every inch it moved, its form became more real, no longer a spectral shadow but like a tangible monster!

“Damn it, I really shouldn’t look at things I shouldn’t.”

Wen Wen cursed under his breath and quickly returned to his room, switching to vampire mode. Fortunately, he had spent a lot of time playing pranks in his ghost state; otherwise, he would have become that thing's prey by now.

In his ghost state, he had no combat ability and could only become the monster’s meal!

He returned to his room not to flee, but to get his weapons.

With a watermelon knife in his left hand and a finely crafted revolver in his right.

As a well-known and licensed detective, Wen Wen possessed a firearms license. Even if he fired within the city, as long as he provided a reasonable explanation afterwards, there would be no trouble.

Wen Wen was not a good person in the traditional sense; some of his actions, if made public, would even draw public condemnation.

However, at least he did not have the habit of implicating others with the trouble he attracted!

And even if he needed to run and pass the blame, he would only do so after confirming he couldn’t handle it!

Reaching the rooftop of the hotel, Wen Wen watched the monster slowly appearing in reality, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He hadn’t gained any improvement from capturing a new monster; instead, it had brought him trouble first.

“I only looked at you once, and you had to chase after me? Also… I hope those police officers can believe me when I say I was fighting a monster…”

He aimed his handgun at the monster slowly phasing into existence and resolutely fired, emptying all the bullets in his hand. The deafening gunshots caused a commotion around the hotel.

Fortunately, it was midnight, and there were no pedestrians on the street, or the scene would have been even more chaotic.
