Besides identification and uniforms, hunters could enjoy free food and lodging at all association industries throughout the Federation, and their train and plane tickets were also covered.
Then, Wen Wen received an interesting item: a memory eraser.
The memory eraser was a silver metallic rod with a small light at one end that emitted a special glow. As long as the light shone into the eyes of an ordinary person, they would enter a memory editing state.
In this state, whatever the person holding the metallic rod said would become the edited person's memory.
Each eraser distributed was bound to its holder. If it was used by anyone other than the holder, it would automatically self-destruct.
Hunters, often operating alone, needed the ability to erase memories autonomously, but each use required a filing.
Upon receiving the metallic rod, Wen Wen’s expression turned mischievous, clearly contemplating something unsavory.
“Say, if I used this on you and told you that you like to wipe your butt with leaves when you go to the bathroom, would you do it?” Wen Wen asked with an evil grin at the assistant who issued him the metallic rod.
The assistant took a step back, instinctively covering his backside. Was this guy serious? So, he dryly replied, “The association reviews every use of the eraser…”
“Hehehe.”
Satisfied with his wicked amusement, Wen Wen pocketed the eraser and, amidst the assistant’s nervous laughter, left the place.
After spending more time, Wen Wen completed most of the procedures and had become a quasi-hunter.
In his hand, he held a thin device slightly larger than a cigarette case. Every hunter possessed such a device, called a Hunter Terminal.
The terminal could perform most functions of the Federation’s popular mobile phones, except for cracking walnuts, including making calls, sending text messages, and more.
Additionally, the terminal could be used to accept missions issued by the Hunter Association, to access information released by the association, and even to log onto the Demon Hunter website and for satellite positioning.
In the eyes of ordinary Federation citizens, this was clearly advanced black technology.
After receiving the Hunter Terminal, Wen Wen played with it in front of the assistant who issued the device.
After playing for a while, Wen Wen began to browse through some information. Hunters could access files of wanted criminals on their terminals, and apprehending them was one of the daily tasks for hunters.
Members of covert organizations like Mr. L, or annoying freelance superhumans like Wu Wang who belonged to no organization but caused trouble, were all on the wanted list.
Thinking of Wu Wang, Wen Wen spent some time browsing the device and found a wanted criminal similar to Wu Wang.
Wanted Number: hf1526: Game Freak
This wanted criminal suffered from severe mental illness and enjoyed playing games with superhumans. Those who participated in his games and failed even once would be cast into the abyss.
Real name unknown, true appearance unknown, operational range unknown, behavior patterns entirely based on preference…
Bounty: One hundred and twenty thousand Demon Hunter Coins.
“I should have blown that guy to bits back then, otherwise I could have claimed the bounty for his head.” Wen Wen scratched his chin, feeling a slight sense of smugness. He had easily dealt with such a high-bounty wanted criminal.
Then Wen Wen casually flipped through his criminal records. The last case occurred on September 17th, when he drove a freelance hunter insane in Fuxi City, Dongshan Province…
“September 17th… I blew him up in early September, which means…”
Wen Wen gritted his teeth, restraining his anger. His last recorded action was on September 17th, meaning Wen Wen hadn't killed him back then. How had he survived a Cataclysm-level force?
Fortunately, Wen Wen, to be safe, had ensured that the imitation Wen Wen saw nothing when he was dragged into the containment facility, otherwise his entire background would have been exposed by now.
However, even so, it wasn't safe. That guy knew about his connection to the Cataclysm-level powerhouse 'Black Cross,' so he couldn't be allowed to live.
Wen Wen was no longer the same person he was before; he should have the strength to deal with that guy, so Wen Wen accepted the mission to capture 'Game Freak' without hesitation.
After accepting the mission, any intelligence the association possessed regarding Wu Wang would be immediately sent to Wen Wen’s terminal.
Afterwards, Wen Wen looked thoughtfully at the terminal: “Speaking of which, this thing seems to have much higher technological content than the mobile phones currently circulating in the Federation. And the instruments in the second assessment, like how photos were instantly developed when taking ID pictures.”
“The technology within the association seems much stronger than the generally used technology in the Federation, and it's all mature technology. Why hasn't this technology spread? Is the association deliberately controlling the Federation's technological development?”
Wen Wen shook his head, no longer dwelling on it. He wouldn't get the real answers unless he truly became a high-ranking official in the Hunter Association.
Without firsthand experience, any speculation could be erroneous. Wen Wen, who prided himself on being more rational than ordinary people, rarely made definitive judgments about things he didn't fully understand.
After completing all the procedures, Wen Wen was brought before Xun Qing. This was the final step: he had to re-sign the contract in front of Xun Qing.
The Demon Hunter contract he had previously signed had been officially nullified during the preceding procedures, and he needed to sign a hunter contract here.
“Before signing the contract, you need to choose a codename. When missions are issued, they are distributed based on codenames,” Xun Qing said to Wen Wen with a smile.
Wen Wen thought for a moment and said, “How about ‘Detective’?”
Xun Qing clicked a couple of times on the nearby computer and then shook his head, “The codename Detective is already taken.”
“Then call me Grand Detective. If Grand Detective isn’t available, then Super Grand Detective, or Peerless Detective, anything like that would do,” Wen Wen stated matter-of-factly.
Xun Qing’s expression stiffened slightly, “According to the rules for Hunter codenames, the ones you’ve listed are not permitted.”
Wen Wen’s eyes widened, rendering him speechless. If these weren't allowed, then they might as well kill him, a person who was terrible at naming things.
“Or why don’t I just call myself ‘Pervert’ then?” Wen Wen said dejectedly after several of his suggested names were rejected.
“Although when choosing a codename, one should strive to be positive…” Xun Qing drew out the word, “this codename is permissible.”
“Pervert it is then. Since you won’t let me pick the codename I want, it has to be this way,” Wen Wen agreed without a second thought, not wanting to expend effort on a codename. He figured a codename was just a codename, and at most, it would be slightly awkward when called upon in the future.
Xun Qing kindly advised, “Are you sure you want to use this codename? It might stay with you for a lifetime.”
“If you won’t let me pick the codename I want, then this is how it has to be,” Wen Wen said indifferently. It was just a codename, and at most, it would lead to some embarrassment later when it was used.
