Chapter 299: New Ability
As his lips curved up slightly, Gui Ying playfully said, "No wonder Feng Xiyan treats her that way. It turns out his Fairy Bai is visiting again."
Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, he mused, "That golden pillar of light last night must be connected to her. Could it be the way she crossed into this world? But the last time she came, there was no golden light at all..."
Though his mind was filled with questions, a smile tugged at his lips. As the gentle wind fluttered his clothes, Gui Ying muttered lightly, "Things are getting interesting."
Having found a new target to follow, Gui Ying snapped his fingers. A second later, a swirl of purple-red mist enveloped his body, and in the next heartbeat, both the mist and his figure vanished from there.
While Gui Ying was going to do something in secret, Bai Hanyun and Feng Xiyan arrived at the Great General’s Mansion.
Stepping down from the carriage, Feng Xiyan reached out to help Bai Hanyun.
The two soldiers guarding the gate were taken aback at the sight. Exchanging glances, they both showed the same look of shock on their faces, though neither dared to say anything.
Once Bai Hanyun’s soles touched the ground, Feng Xiyan said, "Miss Bai, this is my residence."
Raising her eyes, Bai Hanyun noticed the red wooden plaque hanging above the grand double doors. To her surprise, she found herself able to read the carved characters.
"The Mansion of the Great General Feng," she muttered softly.
"Miss Bai, can you read those words?" Feng Xiyan asked when he heard her murmur.
Bai Hanyun nodded slowly, a hint of doubt in her eyes. "Yes."
Her brows furrowed slightly as she wondered, ’Why can I suddenly read this ancient script?’
Glancing at her wrist, she whispered, "Hey, is this your doing?"
The red mark on her wrist warmed faintly before returning to normal.
Sensing the change, Bai Hanyun understood it was the antique mirror’s response to her question.
With a small nod of satisfaction, she thought, ’I really thought I would be illiterate here. Luckily, the antique mirror can help me overcome the language barrier. Turns out, being used as its mobile storage is not that bad.’
Relieved and even a little delighted by her newfound ability, Bai Hanyun said, "I wonder what the Great General’s Mansion looks like. Feng Xiyan, let’s go inside."
Feng Xiyan gestured politely for her to go inside with a faint smile and responded, "After you, Miss Bai."
With that, Bai Hanyun stepped forward into the mansion, leaving the two soldiers still questioning their own eyes and ears.
The moment Bai Hanyun stepped past the grand double doors, she fell silent.
Although the mansion was spacious and clean, it was undeniably in a state of disrepair. Traces of its past grandeur still lingered on the carved wooden pillars and the weathered stone tables.
Walking beside her, Feng Xiyan calmly introduced his residence.
"Miss Bai, this is the front yard of the mansion. From here, we can go to the main courtyard, the inner courtyards, and the outer courtyards."
"The inner courtyard is where the women of the Feng Clan reside, while the outer courtyard is where the men live. As for the main courtyard, it is used mostly for entertaining guests. There are also several guest rooms, a flower garden, a lake pavilion, a training ground, a main hall, and a banquet hall."
Feng Xiyan’s expression softened slightly as he added, "When my mother was still alive, she loved to host a flower banquet every spring, and a plum banquet in the winter."
While Feng Xiyan showed her around the vast mansion, Bai Hanyun couldn’t help but be amazed by its size.
’This mansion is so vast! It’s even bigger than my Bai family’s old estate! Those ancient courtyards aren’t just cultural relics. They are also grand and beautiful. No wonder they are so expensive in the future.’
As she marveled at the mansion’s beauty and size, Feng Xiyan led her toward the main courtyard.
"Miss Bai, please wait here for a moment while I ask the kitchen to prepare breakfast," he said as they walked into the dining room.
Bai Hanyun nodded at his words. "Sure."
While she waited in the dining room, Feng Xiyan left to find Huang Wenping. Just as he stepped past the moon gate of the main courtyard, he saw Huang Wenping approaching.
Clasping his hands, Huang Wenping bowed slightly and greeted him with a smile. "Young Master, you are back."
Feng Xiyan nodded and instructed, "Uncle Huang, please tell the kitchen to prepare more dishes for breakfast. I have a guest to entertain."
Before coming to find Feng Xiyan, Huang Wenping had already received a report about Bai Hanyun. Seeing Feng Xiyan’s smiling face, he calmly replied, "Yes, Young Master."
"Please tell them to be quick," Feng Xiyan added, before hurrying back to accompany Bai Hanyun.
Watching him rush away, Huang Wenping chuckled to himself.
’This is the first time the Young Master has brought home a young lady. From the looks of it, she may well become the mistress of the Feng Clan in the future. I can’t afford to be careless with this breakfast.’
With that thought, Huang Wenping hurried toward the kitchen to personally oversee the preparations.
Meanwhile, news about Feng Xiyan, who had brought a young lady with him when he left the barracks, was now circulating like wildfire among the Feng Army soldiers.
Gathered around a long wooden table in the dining area, the soldiers whispered among themselves in hushed tones.
When Mo Yuan approached with a tray of food, their eyes lit up. They quickly shifted aside, leaving the middle spot open for him.
Noticing their odd behavior, Mo Yuan sat down in the empty seat and asked, "What is it? It’s rare for you guys to give me the middle spot."
A soldier beside him leaned in with a grin and whispered, "Vice General Mo, have you heard the shocking news from this morning?"
