Chapter 303: Answers

Bai Hanyun blinked at Gui Ying’s question and replied as a matter of fact, "This antique mirror has existed for tens of thousands of years. Of course, it’s an antique. Calling it one isn’t wrong."

Her casual words made Gui Ying’s eyes flicker in shock.

Frowning deeply, he thought, ’Tens of thousands of years ago... That means my granduncle must have already long since returned to the spirit realm. If that is the case... then where are his descendants? Does my granduncle have no descendants?’

Seeing that he was deep in thought, Bai Hanyun refilled his empty teacup and said, "Gui Ying, now that I have answered your question, please answer mine from earlier."

Coming out of his thoughts, Gui Ying looked at Bai Hanyun and calmly said, "This young master knows someone who once went to your world. However, after hearing your answer, this young master is no longer sure whether that person is still in the living realm, or if he has any descendants left in your world."

Listening to his vague reply, Bai Hanyun glanced at the red mark on her wrist and thought, ’Based on Gui Ying’s words, someone from his Gui Clan must have transmigrated to my world together with the antique mirror.’

’However, since the antique mirror was abandoned and forgotten in the basement of my house, that person must already be dead, with no family left behind. If that is the case, then there should be no problem for me to keep using the antique mirror in the future after I return to my world.’

Reaching that conclusion, Bai Hanyun smiled and said, "I understand. Thank you for clearing my doubts, Gui Ying."

Not knowing why her mood had suddenly improved, Gui Ying smiled in return and said, "This young master is happy to be of help to you, Fairy Bai."

Just as he finished speaking, the servant returned with three maidservants, each carrying a tray of food. As they served new dishes and cleared the empty plates, the maidservants kept stealing glances at Gui Ying.

Unhappy with this, Gui Ying smiled playfully and coldly said, "Keep looking, and this young master will dig out your eyeballs."

The moment his words fell, the maidservants froze in horror as chills ran down their spines.

Sensing the heavy murderous intent spread across the dining room, Feng Xiyan released his aura, dispersing part of Gui Ying’s murderous intent.

Feng Xiyan then looked at the servant and the three maidservants and ordered, "You all may leave now."

Freed from the bone-chilling murderous intent, the three maidservants hurriedly bowed and left.

Not sensing anything amiss, the servant bowed slightly and responded, "Yes, Young Master."

After the servant left, Feng Xiyan looked at Gui Ying’s smiling face and thought, ’This man is far more dangerous than I thought. I need to keep an eye on him in case he does something bad towards Fairy Bai.’

As if he had read Feng Xiyan’s thoughts, Gui Ying lazily said, "Great General Feng, you need not worry. This young master would never harm Fairy Bai."

Under Feng Xiyan’s doubtful gaze, Gui Ying added silently in his heart, ’She is far too interesting to be killed. Besides, this young master still needs her help to investigate what happens to my granduncle’s family after my grandfather sent them to her world.’

Taking a bite of the braised meat, Gui Ying nodded in satisfaction. "Mhm, this dish is delicious. How did you manage to turn ordinary meat into such a delicacy?"

Seeing his interest in food, Bai Hanyun’s eyes lit up. Having found another foodie, she happily explained the cooking process for braised meat, based on her limited knowledge of a braised meat recipe she once read online.

While the two of them discussed which dishes were the most delicious and how to cook them, Fan Wanming was on his way to visit the Feng Army’s underground prison.

Seeing him approach, the guarding soldiers clasped their fists and greeted in unison, "This subordinate greets General Fan."

Fan Wanming nodded in acknowledgment and asked, "Did anything happen while this general was away?"

Being asked, one of the soldiers reported, "Some of the Jin Empire’s war prisoners demanded better meals, while others hinted that they wanted to see you in private."

After listening to the report, Fan Wanming said, "Good. Continue giving them only a hard bun and a bowl of water once a day."

"Yes, General Fan."

After giving the order, Fan Wanming walked down the dimly lit corridor.

As he passed the prison cells, the prisoners stared at him. Some with hatred, some with calculation, some with pleading eyes, while others looked on emptily.

Glancing at them, Fan Wanming thought, ’It seems not all of them can be used. The Great General was wise to use this method to filter who is useful and who is not. Based on the current progress, it should be fewer than ten thousand soldiers that can be used in the end.’

Admiring Feng Xiyan’s plan, Fan Wanming continued patrolling the underground prison.

When he arrived at the lowest floor, he asked the soldiers on duty, "Have the prisoners made any demands?"

One of the soldiers clasped his fists and replied, "Reporting to General Fan, none of them has demanded anything."

Hearing this, Fan Wanming paused in thought before asking, "What about Ji Hui?"

"Ji Hui spends most of his time staring at the wall in a daze. He never speaks and eats whatever is given to him without protesting," another soldier answered.

Just as his words fell, banging sounds suddenly came from behind the closed metal door.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Fan Wanming turned toward the metal door and asked, "What is that?"

The soldiers also looked at the door at his question.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

As the banging continued, one of the soldiers replied, "It should be Sun Heng."

Fan Wanming raised his brows slightly at the answer. After a brief moment of thought, he calmly ordered, "Open the door."

"Yes, General Fan."

The soldier took the bunch of keys from his waist and unlocked the heavy metal door. With a creak, the metal door slowly opened, and he quickly stepped aside to let Fan Wanming pass.

As the echo of the creaking door spread across the damp, dim corridor, Fan Wanming calmly walked down the stone stairs.
