Chapter 1798: Chapter 1798: Making an Appearance
"We can’t stop them," Li Jie said. "Even though this interception mission comprises the most elite cavalry from super guilds, they still cannot withstand the ogre’s charge, even though we also have Kodo Beast cavalry on our side."
"How much longer until the barrier is broken?" Li Yao asked the Blue Dragon Queen.
The Blue Dragon Queen said, "If we can maintain at least six positions, half an hour."
"These are already the opponent’s ace cavalry, right? Just now, our guild’s regular cavalry squad was dispersed with one charge," Boundless Sea said.
"Yes, ogres are enormous, and there aren’t many mounts that can bear them. Each cavalryman is very precious; of course, only the opponent’s ace soldiers can ride them," a gleam flickered in Li Yao’s eyes. "I initially wanted to conserve strength and gradually wear them down, but they used their trump card right from the start. The ogres are truly anxious, but that’s fine. I’ll let my throwaway ace army take them down now."
"Throwaway ace?" Instant Brilliance questioned in confusion.
"Low production cost, high attack power—ultimate glass cannon, naturally a suicide unit," Li Yao pointed ahead. "Watch."
As Li Yao spoke, Ogre cavalry were about to charge toward the next stone-thrower position, when suddenly the ground before them trembled, and then Jump Bugs erupted from the earth.
Kodo Beasts can adapt to many terrains, but they struggle most with burrows, and pits appearing on the ground pose a deadly threat to them.
Yet these cavalry were highly skilled, making a sharp turn amid their gallop to skirt around the obstacles. The entire maneuver was fluid, with hardly any communication; it was truly impressive.
But the Jump Bugs also awaited this moment. Numerous Jump Bugs leaped high, drawing a graceful arc across the sky, their sharp claws glistening as they descended.
In an instant, a fierce skirmish erupted between both sides. Just as before, the Jump Bugs’ attacks were sharp, yet somewhat ineffective against super heavy armor, but they were highly effective against the ogres, who had very little armor coverage.
The Jump Bugs’ attacks were excessively sharp, their fangs and claws capable of gouging extremely deep wounds into the opponents.
The crowd watched as the Jump Bugs hurled themselves at their enemies like moths to a flame; if they managed to land on a mount, they could invariably kill an ogre. However, the Jump Bugs were also very fragile, offering little resistance against the ogres’ long-handled weapons—once struck, their bodies were cleaved apart.
Nonetheless, the Worm Tribe’s vitality was exceedingly strong, and even when halved, the Worm Tribe could still struggle for several more seconds.
Many ogres assumed they had killed the Jump Bugs, only to be bitten to the death or left with massive wounds from the claws.
The battle between the two sides was exceedingly fierce, horrifying to behold. The Jump Bugs indeed launched suicidal attacks, something other soldiers would not do, as they valued their own lives immensely.
However, the Worm Tribe was different. Once the Master gave the order, they no longer cared about their lives and deaths, making the Worm Tribe particularly terrifying. This was also why Li Yao dared to assault the main city with a mere million-strong army.
Li Yao did not have high requirements; if his own insect soldiers could achieve a two-for-one, or even a three-for-one exchange, their opponents would surely collapse in terror. Of course, this referred to the ace army; other troops were irrelevant—that was the issue for other players. If they couldn’t handle even this aspect, Li Yao had nothing more to say.
The ogres on the city wall, no matter how fearless they were, still fell short of the Worm Tribe. The ogres’ ultimate desire was to eat, to savor delicious food, not to be fearless of death.
They looked on with shock; in their eyes, their elite troops could crush new recruits indefinitely. But with the advent of these bugs, even though the insects’ casualties outnumbered the ogres’, these were their ace troops—their most elite cavalry.
A wave of leaping attacks not only matched them blow for blow but also stymied the cavalry’s assault.
Watching the howling ogre cavalry and the terrified Kodo Beasts, then looking at the Jump Bugs remaining silently, all the ogres developed a profound premonition of dread.
Even the Great Magician’s expression was grim. He glanced at Li Yao, who was still standing at the forefront of the hill, and the flag fluttering behind him, also sensing an ominous feeling—was this the opponent’s confidence?
The Great Magician’s expression shifted. His premonition was that the barrier might not hold, and ultimately, it would come down to an all-out battle. Therefore, he wanted to probe: "Deliver my order, dispatch another cavalry to assault the opponent’s commanding flag, and behead their leader."
"Understood," the opposing commander hesitated and responded. "Should we send the Cavalry General?"
"Have him lead the most elite cavalry to strike. Although the new recruits can be revived, killing the opponent will still deliver a heavy blow to their morale," the Great Magician said.
The city gates opened once more, and a particularly robust ogre emerged at the forefront, followed by a hundred thousand cavalry, slowly arranging the ranks before charging madly toward the hillside.
"They’re indeed coming for me—it seems they’ve abandoned the barrier," Li Yao sneered. "Then let’s fight."
The ground trembled as countless Worm Tribe members drilled up from underground. With the ten gates below the hillside, the seemingly empty commanding flag hillside was instantly guarded to an extreme degree by numerous Worm Tribe members, with hundreds of thousands surrounding and protecting the hill from all directions.
"Whoa, you startled me! I thought you weren’t prepared, turns out you had an ambush ready," Boundless Sea wiped cold sweat. "I thought we were gonna run away."
"I’m not an idiot; with just our people, the command unit, and these players, it wouldn’t stand a chance," Li Yao chuckled.
"Prairie Fire kid, I am Cavalry Leader Kakam. Do you dare to come out and fight me?" The massive voice of the gigantic Cavalry Leader Kakam resonated across the battlefield before he even arrived.
"You’re not qualified yet; first, get through my line before challenging the great Master," the Cavern Lord mocked, mocked amidst a throng of Blood-Dripping Spiders and Beetles.
Countless Thunder Beasts and Destroyers, along with dense ranks of poised Jump Bugs, awaited their cavalry’s approach.
Their sides drew closer, ever closer, as the ogre cavalry collided with Li Yao’s insect army.
However, the ensuing scene left everyone stunned. The opponent’s cavalry didn’t breach the worms’ defensive line; instead, they collided into an impassable wall. Their charge came to an abrupt halt.
Though the frontline insects were cut down, their bodies were supported and sustained by the insects in the back. The massive Thunder Beasts and Destroyers, with their incredible strength, formed an interconnected formation that was simply unbreakable.
It was something they definitely couldn’t break through.
Swish, swish, swish!
Instead, a barrage of steel needles caused the ogres and Kodo Beasts to scream in agony. Unable to penetrate the line, the cavalry’s advantage would be gravely diminished.
Then lines of Jump Bugs behind the lines leaped forward at once...
