Chapter 527: One of the Four Great Fierce Beasts, number 527
Mu Hanyan’s heart stirred. She had heard a similar chant from Ye Yanran’s lips, equally arcane and profound, with a strange rhythm, but upon closer listening, she realized the rhythm was entirely different. Ye Yanran’s chanting sounded ethereal and distant, like white clouds in the sky, unsullied by a speck of dust, and brimming with life. Xia Youchen’s chant, however, was low and oppressive, filled with malevolence and the breath of life and death.
This discovery eased Mu Hanyan’s mind considerably; truth be told, she really did not hope for there to be any connection between Ye Yanran and Xia Youchen.
In the midst of Xia Youchen’s chanting, a circle of faint, mysterious halos enveloped the Exotic Beasts crawling on the ground, and blood-red orbs, as if stripped from their insides, floated above their heads.
And within the ruins of that palace, beads of the same blood color also rose quietly.
"Beast Blood Pearls!" Not only Mu Hanyan but also many young Swordsmen exclaimed.
Like Mu Hanyan and her companions, they had slain Exotic Beasts along the way without finding a single Beast Blood Pearl.
Only now did they vaguely understand that the Beast Blood Pearls from those beasts they had killed had long been extracted by Xia Youchen and placed within the temple he spoke of.
Thousands of Beast Blood Pearls floated in midair, looking even more seductive and bizarre under the sunlight.
"Beasts return to the soul, the Beast God reborn!" Xia Youchen suddenly shouted at the climax of his chant.
He was using that same obscure language, but with some differences.
Mu Hanyan was amazed to discover that, as he shouted, those eight characters also echoed in her mind. She actually understood Xia Youchen’s strange language. Could it be an illusion? Even Mu Hanyan herself wasn’t sure.
All the Beast Blood Pearls burst at once, turning into a cloud of blood mist, converging towards the Divine Beast Relic.
The grayish Beast Bone, with its honeycomb-like pores, also filled with red mist, as though soaked in fresh blood.
"Boom!" The Beast Bone exploded from within, forming a sphere of dark green light about ten feet in diameter that twisted and stretched, constantly changing shape.
The phantom of an Ancient Divine Beast slowly appeared before everyone’s eyes.
This Divine Beast was the size of a cow, with a body like a tiger, and its fur stood on end like a porcupine’s quills; it flapped a pair of iron wings, and its cold eyes swept over the faces of those present, radiating an aura of sheer brutality.
"Qiongqi, it’s actually the Divine Beast Qiongqi, hahaha." Xia You laughed wildly, apparently unaware until now of which beast the relic belonged to.
Qiongqi! A chill went through the hearts of Mu Hanyan and the others.
Qiongqi, rather than being called a Divine Beast, would more aptly be described as a Fierce Beast.
According to legend, Qiongqi lived by devouring humans, had a very vicious and cruel nature, and was extremely malevolent, listed as one of the Ancient Four Great Ferocious Beasts.
They had originally thought that such legends were just fabrications by bored ancients; it was unexpected that such a Fierce Beast really existed. Although this beast was clearly only a Wandering Soul, Mu Hanyan and the others couldn’t help but feel an uneasy premonition.
"With my covenant, I grant you rebirth, bound by the pact of life and death, assist me to return to Godhood!" Xia Youchen rapidly formed a Hand Formation and chanted in that unfathomable language once again.
And Mu Hanyan, once again, understood his words.
Although she did not comprehend why, this time, Mu Hanyan was certain that she truly understood the language used by Xia Youchen.
