Chapter 316: Chapter 318: We’re on a date, I’m afraid it’s not convenient.
He was desperately trying to avoid Fluffy Zane, so why on earth would he approach her to say hello?
Mila rested her chin on one hand, her meticulously made-up eyes glinting with charm as she looked at him, awaiting his reply.
William Guillen put down his knife and fork and elegantly wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin. "Okay."
Mila’s smile froze. "Young Master Guillen, what did you say?"
William Guillen glanced at her. "Didn’t you say you wanted to go over and greet her? Why haven’t you gone yet?"
And just like that, Mila had dug her own grave and jumped right in, thoroughly outmaneuvering herself.
Though deeply unwilling, Mila managed to feign magnanimity.
She hooked her arm through William Guillen’s, and they walked over to Fluffy Zane’s table.
"Really? Is it as interesting as you say?"
Fluffy Zane’s eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Jim Jones, a soft yet dazzling smile on her lips.
Jim Jones chuckled, his voice gentle. "Of course. Next time you’re free, I can take you to see it."
"Sure, no problem." As Fluffy Zane finished speaking, she glanced up and saw William Guillen approaching with a female companion.
Her hand, holding a glass of red wine, tightened its grip on the goblet.
Fluffy Zane’s smile froze on her lips, and her gaze hardened, losing all its previous animation.
Jim Jones noticed her reaction.
William Guillen was very satisfied with her response, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Fluffy, what a coincidence."
"Yes... quite a coincidence."
Fluffy Zane quickly regained her composure, greeting them politely but with a clear distance.
The woman beside him, dressed provocatively, clung to his arm, her expression seemingly staking her claim on him.
She lowered her eyelids, hiding her disappointment.
"Fluffy, this is...?" Jim Jones interjected at the right moment, breaking the awkward atmosphere.
William Guillen extended his hand with a smile. "Hello, William Guillen."
Jim Jones stood up and briefly shook his hand. "Jim Jones."
Raising an eyebrow slightly, William Guillen looked at Fluffy Zane. "Since we’ve run into each other, why don’t we eat together? Fluffy, what do you think?"
"I’m sorry, but Fluffy and I are on a date. I’m afraid it’s not convenient," Jim Jones replied before Fluffy Zane could speak.
Fluffy Zane looked at Jim Jones, a flicker of gratitude in her eyes. "Jim is right, it’s not convenient for us."
Not convenient? William Guillen’s lips curled into a cold sneer. ’Not convenient,’ indeed. He averted his gaze. "Well, I won’t disturb you then."
With that, he led his female companion back to their table.
Only after William Guillen had left did Jim Jones sit down again.
Seeing Fluffy Zane’s obviously troubled expression, he asked with a hint of concern, "Are you alright?"
"I’m fine." Fluffy Zane forced a smile, struggling to keep herself composed.
Her heart ached terribly, but she couldn’t show it.
She was on a date—a blind date, no less—and showing her distress would be disrespectful to Jim Jones.
"Let’s switch seats." Jim Jones had noticed earlier that William Guillen and she were seated directly facing each other.
To ease her discomfort, Jim Jones swapped seats with her so she would be facing away from William Guillen.
Perhaps that would make her feel a little better.
"May I ask something rather personal?"
Fluffy Zane lowered her eyes and took a deep breath. "Go ahead."
She already knew what he was going to ask, so she had steeled herself for it.
Jim Jones still wore a gentle, easygoing smile. "You like William Guillen, don’t you?"
"You saw right through me."
"When you like someone, your eyes can’t lie."
Jim Jones poured her a glass of wine and continued, "Perhaps you haven’t even realized it yourself."
